CUView: Digital Signage Service Donna Goss, Peggy Beach University Communications
CUView Service Description CUView is a centrally supported service that allows departments to display their own local information on flat-panel information screens in locations of their choice. CUView is also a component of the campus emergency notification system. In scenarios when campus sirens and mass notification systems are activated, CUView displays may broadcast information news or instructions. Departments cannot opt-out of emergency notification. Service implementation sponsored by: Facilities Management University Communications Cornell Information Technologies
CUView Service Description CUView HARDWARE includes flat-panel displays, channel players and peripheral devices. The flat panel displays come in a variety of sizes to suit different spaces. Plans may vary from one display in a central location to a network of signs throughout a building complex. Channel players are small computer devices that route the content from the central server to your display. If you want all your signs to display the same content at the same time, you need only a single channel player. A different channel player is needed for each display that you would like to display unique content. Peripheral devices include cables, mounts, amplifiers, speakers and various other components and vary at each installation CUView SOFTWARE is used to create, approve, schedule and manage content. Content creation: Content to display on a sign can be created in any application that allows you to save a file in.jpg format. Audio and video files can be uploaded, too. Other options include displaying web pages and RSS feeds. Web interface: The majority of tools you need are available through the web interface at Through the web client, you can create, upload, approve, manage and schedule content. Once subscribed you will receive a username and password. Downloadable client: A stand-alone client is available for download from the web interface. This client requires a computer running a Windows operating system.
Requirements for installation Administrative approval of Communication Director for the participating department s school, college or unit. Designated content creator in the unit or commitment to use central content CIT-provided wired network jack Cannot be installed on department-managed networks, behind single port gateways, or on wireless Electrical service at sign location Wall structure to support weight of equipment Sufficient space to securely house equipment Indoor locations only at this time Any missing / required infrastructure will be specified in the design and estimate process
Pricing No recurring charges: No subscription fees No monthly fees No on-going costs No EZ Back-up charges to local departments No NUBB charges to local departments Requires wired Ethernet jack this is paid by CIT, NOT the local department Departments that opt to get DirecTV content are responsible for Campus Televideo fees, currently $19.20 per month per set top box with 115 channels Requires an additional, departmentally funded data jack. Does NOT require coax cable
Pricing - Installation Each site will have a unique cost based on the department s site, number and size of displays, need (or lack of need) for infrastructure work (cables, pathways, electricity, network service, video distribution) A basic CUView installation includes a mini channel player and a 42 inch monitor to support local content displayed at a single location in your facility. Estimated cost is approximately $3500.
Pricing Some sample equipment costs Includes 3-year parts and labor warranty Pricing subject to change by vendor Monitors: 32 inch: $795 (all include three year parts and labor warranty) 42 inch: $1, inch: $1, inch: $3, inch: $8,035 Channel players: Mini: $2,350 Peripherals: Speakers: $85 Wall mount: $182 Cables, connectors: $200 Not one-size fits all -- each participating department will work with a designer to select the equipment for their particular vision in their space, taking into account costs and pre-existing systems if appropriate.
