2 TestPoint TS-30 TS-170 Broadband Test Solutions The TestPoint system supports a wealth of test configurations for transport and datacom applications. To address the challenges of next-generation networks, TestPoint provides test functions that include traffic loading, impairment injection, error reporting, information capture, and performance characterization. Transport protocol coverage includes SONET/SDH, Virtual Concatenation (VCAT) for Ethernet over SONET/SDH, and Optical Transport Network (G.709). In addition, TestPoint provides datacom capabilities for 1 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Generic Framing Procedure (GFP), and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM). TestPoint's scalable, field upgradable design can adapt to new technologies as they emerge. The TestPoint specializes in providing detailed lower layer test functions. provides additional clocking functions such as BITS/SSU (T1/E1) and external clock inputs. TestPoint supports clock rate variations. An embedded Java GUI eliminates the need for dedicated computer based software applications. This has the added benefit of ensuring compatibility with most computer platforms. All TestPoint modules support automation and scripting capabilities, using any programming language such as Python or TCL, based on a Command Line Interface (CLI). TestPoint offers two scalable chassis configurations: the TS- 170, and the TS-30. The TS-170 is a 17-slot system well suited for manufacturing needs. The TS-30 consists of a 3-slot chassis suitable for bench top, rackmount, and mobile applications. Both chassis support module hot insertion to keep downtime to a minimum, and mount into standard 19- inch (47.5cm) rack systems. All TestPoint modules are equipped with a 10/100 Ethernet port to perform test system management. The optional Group Controller module provides a single point of access into a shelf when multiple modules are present. Each test module comprises on-board clocking functions including a local oscillator and loop timing. The Group Controller module - 1 -

3 System The TestPoint system has the following attributes: Test system management is performed using a PC over a 10/100BaseT link. The PC can be physically connected directly to any module or to a Group Controller, which can control multiple modules concurrently. Multiple users can access TestPoint through the Group Controller module. The application software resides on each module. The GUI interface uses a web browser and a Java plug-in. Navigation is performed via a tree based menu. A serial interface is available into each module. The Command Line Interface (CLI) can be accessed via the serial interface or via a Telnet session over a 10/100BaseT link. The CLI is text based. Commands are organized in a treebased directory structure. Automation is performed via the CLI. It may be performed over a telnet session, socket connection, or RS-232 serial control. All modules are equipped with a disk-on-chip where software loads, configuration files, and test logs are saved and retrieved. FTP access is available. An automation tool helps to perform software upgrades, which can be accomplished remotely. An event browser captures test results on each module based on time-of-day or test elapsed time. The time-of-day is configurable on each module. The group controller module can perform concurrent test management on multiple modules. One physical port is active at a time. The OC-12/3/STM-4/1 port is software switchable between 155Mbps and 622Mbps. A G.709 OTU-1 hardware option is under development. Channelization: STS-1-Xv (up to 24 members), STS-3c-Xv (up to 8 members), VC-3-Xv (AU-3 or TUG-3, up to 24 members), VC-4-Xv (up to 8 members), Low-order VCAT (VT1.5, VC-12 is planned) Error injection and detection: LOM (Loss of multi-frame) using MFI 1 or MFI 2, SQM (Loss of Sequence), LOA (Loss of Alignment). LOM and SQM may be injected via a multi-frame (16- frame) editor. Differential delay: Injection of differential delay per VCG member, VCAT payload area is filled with a user byte. Reporting of maximum and minimum differential delay on receive interface. LOA threshold is user defined. Current support is up to 100ms. Multi-Frame Captures: H4 byte capture over 8 multi-frames (each multi-frame is a 16-frame set) for a VCG member. GFP GFP is supported in standard SONET/SDH and VCAT channelization modes. GFP is based on ITU-T G GFP-T (Transparent Mode) is planned as a field upgrade. Traffic Settings Send mode: Continuous and burst mode. In burst mode, the user sets the number of frames to be sent. Header settings: User definable fields include PLI (auto-calculate option), PTI, EXI, UPI, pfcs on/off, linear extension header on/off, channel ID, spare. Core header scrambler on/off, payload header scrambler on/off GFP frame size: Fixed, incrementing, decrementing, random modes. Size range starts from 9 bytes up to bytes with setable step size for incrementing, decrementing. Random range is between 64 and 1518 bytes counted at the MAC layer. Transmission rate: Based on user defined bandwidth (in Mbps) for fixed frame sizes or the number of GFP idle frames between traffic frames for any frame size. Number of idle frames can be fixed or random bounded by minimum and maximum. Range is 0 to idle frames. Client Payload: GFP-F (Frame mode) with MAC layer support. User can set destination/source MAC, type/length (802.3 or type II), and optional 4-byte VLAN (802.1Q) tag. Payload fill: PRBS or (can be MAC payload or client payload without MAC). Statistics stop delay: Delay, up to 2 sec, to continue collecting statistics following test stop for frame loss testing. Default is 0.5 sec. All SONET/SDH functions are available with ATM. Traffic Engines Play from file: 2 types. First is Raw Hex where the file contains any user-defined cells. Second is Snoop where the file content is AAL5 encapsulated and segmented by TestPoint. Saturation engine: Provides AAL0 background traffic. Multiple simulated connections via VPI/VCI range. User can also set GFP, PT, CLP and user byte fill payload. O.191: Single virtual connection to measure QoS parameters of latency, sequencing, and cell loss using time stamps and sequence numbers. User can set VPI/VCI, GFP, PT, CLP, and initial sequence number. PRBS: Single virtual connection where the payload contains AAL PRBS. User can set VPI/VCI, GFP, PT, and CLP. Reporting of single bit correctable HEC errors, single bit uncorrectable HEC errors, multiple bit HEC errors. HEC error correction can be on/off on receive interface. PRBS: Injection of single, rate down to Receive sync indicator, bit count, bit error count, bit error rate (BER) O.191: Single injection of CRC error, misinserted cell (out-of-order), lost cell (skip sequence number). On transmit, reporting of CRC errored cell count, misinserted cell count, lost cell count. Save format is either Raw Hex or Snoop. Snoop format is for datagram encapsulation in AAL5 where TestPoint performs reassembly. User can set number of captured cells. Capture and play from file are compatible. Gigabit Ethernet Offered on multi-rate modules equipped with a Gigabit Ethernet port. A clock rate adjustment hardware option is available. Gigabit Ethernet is based on IEEE Traffic Settings Send mode: Continuous and burst mode. In burst mode, the user sets the number of frames to be sent. MAC Header settings: User definable fields include destination/source MAC addresses, which can be fixed or incrementing over a range, type/length (802.3 or type II), an optional 4-byte VLAN (802.1Q) tag, LLC/SNAP (802.3), and optionally an IPv4 header with checksum auto-calculation. Scrambler: On/off Frame size: Fixed, incrementing, decrementing, random, and sequencing modes. Size range starts from 19 bytes up to bytes with setable step size for incrementing, decrementing. Random range is between 64 and Sequencing provides 8 sequences sent in succession where each is assigned a size and number of frames. Transmission rate: Bandwidth (in % or Mbps) for fixed frame sizes or number of Inter Frame Gap (IFG) bytes. The number of idle frames between traffic frames can be fixed, random, or a sequence. Random is bounded by minimum and maximum. Range is 4 to IFG bytes. For sequences, up to 8 are sent in succession where each is assigned a number of IFG bytes and preceding number of frames. Protocol Enables: Traffic is sent either directly over the PCS sublayer (no MAC), over MAC, or over IPv4 with or without LLC/SNAP (802.3). Payload fill: PRBS or ; invert or no invert or fixed 16-byte user sequence Signature: Field provided for latency and sequencing measurements. For latency, there is a Bit forwarding or Store and forward setting. Statistics stop delay: Delay, up to 2sec, to continue collecting statistics following test stop for frame loss testing. Multi Frame Structures: Generation and reporting of OTU-TTI (SAPI, DAPI, OS), ODU- TTI for PM and TCM1-6 (SAPI, DAPI, OS), ODU- FTFL (fault messages, operator identifier for forward and backward directions), and PSI (payload type, reserved field) Overhead PRBS: Three independent PRBS engines are provided to test overhead fields individually.
