1 Creating a network Bridge If you wish to use your Technicolor as a Gateway and attach another router to it to create a bridge the follow instructions may help. This example uses a Technicolor TG588 v2 as the host router and a Technicolor TG389ac as the bridged router. Before we start you will require: 1) Your ISP to assign you a block of IP addresses. 2) A Technicolor host router. 3) Another router which supports static IP addressing (e.g. a cable or DSL router) 4) An idea how the bridged router will be configured. Because the Technicolor TG588v v2, TG589vac, TG589vac v2, and TG389ac does not allow the WAN IP address to be mapped to a connected device these instructions take advantage of additional WAN IP addresses which may be available from your ISP. An example of a block of IP addresses are: Block type: /30 (a slash thirty is a block of 4 IP addresses) IP Block Range: Example: Network ID (not usable) First usable IP address which is assigned to the host router Second usable IP address which can be used by the bridged router Broadcast Address (no usable) The above design will mean the host router (e.g. TG588) will still have its own WAN IP address and can be used separately. For example, the TG588 could be used to connect one part of the network (e.g. VoIP handsets) and the other for PCs.

2 Setting up the host router (TG588v v2) The first part of this guide is making sure the host router is correctly assigned a block of IP addresses. Please refer to the guide Technicolor TG588v v2 Assign a Block of IP addresses which contains detailed instructions on how to achieve this. Setting up the bridged router (TG389ac) Connect the bridged routers WAN port to one of the yellow LAN ports on the Technicolor host router. Once done log into the routers web interface (default )

3 Once logged in you ll notice the WAN IP under Internet Access currently shows the LAN IP assigned by the TG588v v2. You ll also notice the Gateway IP address under Local Network also shows the LAN IP of the TG389ac. Both of these will change when this process completes. The first thing you ll need to do is to change the LAN IP of the bridged router (TG389ac). You can change the IP address to something within the current subnet (e.g ) however you may find it better to have a completely different range. The above uses meaning any devices connected to this router will have a different LAN IP to those connected to the TG588. Once you ve saved the changed we recommend disconnecting your computer from the TG389 and then reconnect. This should make the computer ask for a new LAN IP from the TG389.

4 Once done log back into the TG389 and select Setup Your Gateway. First, set the Routed Type to Static. After this enter the IP Address this router is going to use as its WAN IP. This will typically be the IP Address immediately following the Gateways IP address. (e.g ) Enter as the Subnet Mask. Enter the IP address of the Gateway ( ) into the Gateway field. Set the Number of DNS Servers to 2 (important) Add the IP Addresses of the DNS servers (e.g. Googles are & ) Click Save.

5 You should now see the WAN IP address of the bridged router in the Internet Access box and you should now see the new LAN IP in the Local Network box. Troubleshooting Issue: Resolution: Issue: Resolution: You can ping but not resolve to web sites. Check you ve added DNS servers to the bridged router. Can t log back into the bridged router after changing the IP address: Check your computers using the correct details. First disconnect and reconnect your computer from the router. Next, check your computer has a new IP address. This can be achieved on a Windows computer by going to Network and Sharing Center, selecting view details, and the clicking on the Details button. The IP4V Default Gateway should be the IP address of the bridged router and your IP address should be something within the same range.
