1 Presentation Modicon automation I/O architectures Presentation The Modicon automation offers an I/O architecture solution over Ethernet, connecting the local rack to remote I/O () drops, installed on a rack or on a Modicon X0 rack (), and distributed I/O (DIO) devices. This system ensures global availability of the Hot Standby CPU and devices. At the heart of this architecture are two PLC racks ( Primary and Standby ) with identical hardware confi gurations, based on 0 CPU p p Unity Hot Standby CPUs, connected via a high-speed optical fi bre cable. The volume of data exchanged between the Primary and Standby PLCs can reach. MB depending on the CPU. The Primary PLC executes the application program and controls the I/O, while the Standby PLC remains in the bacround. In the event of an unexpected failure affecting the Primary PLC, the Standby system over automatically, changing over execution of the application program and control of the I/O to the Standby PLC with an up-to-date data context. Once the changeover is complete, the Standby PLC becomes the Primary PLC. Once the faulty PLC has been repaired and reconnected to the standby system, it takes the role of the Standby PLC. The changeover is performed smoothly at the outputs and is completely transparent to the process. The Hot Standby system with Unity Pro software thus increases productivity by minimizing process downtime. Hot Standby system based on Ethernet architecture The Hot Standby system based on the remote I/O () architecture is used for sensitive processes which require an I/O control takeover time within the region of the PLC scan time. As the Ethernet drops are synchronized with the PLC CPU scan time, the CPU changeover is carried out smoothly at the outputs, i.e. it is bumpless. Ethernet head adaptor modules0 000 and control network head adaptor modules 0 00 are compatible with Hot Standby Ethernet architectures. Automatic switching of the IP address of these modules ensures transparent addressing, even in the event of a CPU changeover. 9 (continued) Modicon automation Modicon X0 NRP drop optical repeaters, ConneXium managed BMX NRP 00p Modicon X0 Ethernet drop optical repeaters ()() Presentation BMX NRP 000/00 optical fi bre repeaters are an alternative to the use of ConneXium managed dual ring (DRS), for optical fi bre communications over long distances, in systems. When inserted in Modicon X0 drops, BMX NRP 000/00 optical fi bre repeaters make it possible to: b Extend the total distance of the network, when Ethernet drops are located in areas of the factory more than 00 m away b Enhance immunity to noise b Resolve earthing problems, between sites which have different earthing methods NRP repeaters can be installed on the primary ring or on secondary rings. These modules cannot however be used to connect secondary rings to the primary ring. The BMX NRP 000 repeater for multimode optical fi bre allows remote location up to km. The BMX NRP 00 repeater or single mode optical fi bre allows remote location up to km. Depending on the confi guration, the NRP repeater must be linked to the adaptor of the drop where it is installed, via one or two Ethernet Interlink cables.
