9 Oregon s Research Universities where we are today 9 Institutions have connections that are inadequate: too slow and too expensive Oregon Universities outside of Portland only have 10 Gigabit (Gb) connections while peer institutions in other states, e.g. Montana, have 10 times the data carrying capacity Reducing what is possible for the universities and colleges, extension offices, health care sites, or other satellite locations, around the state Limiting Oregon s ability to fully participate in data intensive fields such as Genomics, Autonomous Vehicles, Smart Cities, Precision Agriculture, etc. 100Gb connections to national and regional research networks, needed to stay at the forefront or research, are available in Portland but unreachable
