ESTEEM Utilities ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS TECHNOLOGY INC. A: INSTALL The modem support of communications protocol allows the device user to enable a READ or WRITE communication instructions to transfer data between devices. Once the is configured for protocol, the will read the destination address in the protocol and send the information to the /device with that address. The can route information through multiple s to extend the range of the network, transparent to the equipment (see Figure 1). The modem is constantly being integrated into new automation systems. If you do not see an application listed in this report, please call the factory to discuss your application with our engineering staff. Logic 405 DOS 1. Boot-up the computer using DOS. 2. This section will guide you through the steps of programming the for your application. This section is written with the assumption that you are familiar with the operation of the and have a layout of your site to write down the addresses. If you are unfamiliar with the operation of the, complete the Setup section of the utility. Addresses for the PLCs in your site may be dictated by the addressing. Complete all steps in this Engineering Report before defining the PLC addresses. An example three node site is shown in Figure 6. The line of site is blocked from the Water Treatment Plant to the Pump House by a large hill. The at the Elevated Tank can be used to digi-repeat information from the Water Treatment Plant to the Pump House transparently to the protocol. This is an example of when the repeater configuration would be used. 3 Engineering Report This section contains example site layouts with repeaters. All diagrams and input examples, throughout this section, pertain to these example site layouts. When the utility prompts you for information on your site, use the example site layout information to help describe the terms used in the utility. If your site uses repeaters, always start programming with the Master. This will define the addressing for all PLC/ pairs for your site. 1. Select PLC Applications from the main menu (Reference Figure 3). 2. From the Control System s menu select Opto- 22 (Figure 4). 3. The Welcome Menu will be displayed. After reading the information press Enter to continue. 4. If the serial port is not configured for hardware handshaking, select NO. If the serial port is set for hardware handshaking or you are unsure, select YES and press CTRL-Enter. 5. This section will program the address to the. Enter the address of the and device. The address of the and device should be the same. If you are programming the Master modem in a site with repeaters, select an arbitrary address such as 0 and proceed with the setup by pressing CRTL-Enter. NOTE: The addressing of the device and modems in your site will be defined by the repeater configuration. The address that you select for your Mater may need to change depending upon the repeater configuration table. 6. Any / pair in the network that has the ability to initiate communication to other Opto- 22 devices needs to be defined as an master. This command does not limit the device to a Master- Slave relationship, but it will instruct the to read the destination address from the message block. If the device is initiating communication to more than one device in the network, Press YES and CTRL-Enter. If the PLC is only responding to a message, Select NO and proceed to step The modem has the ability to allow multidropped devices on a RS-485 or equivalent line to share one modem. This is a special setup of the modem called Grouping and is covered in the Grouping section of this report. If your system does not have multi-dropped devices select NO and CRTL-Enter to proceed. 8. This screen asks if repeaters are needed. Look at your site layout and determine if you will be using repeaters. If you are using repeaters in the network, you will need to configure a repeater table for the Master only. The Master is the connected to the device that is initiating communication to remote devices through other remote stations. Do not program the repeater configuration in the repeating s or the remote s. If you are programming a remote station in a repeater network, a repeater station or not using repeaters in your network select NO and CTRL-Enter. Proceed to step If repeaters are required, select YES and CTRL- Enter on the repeaters screen. Refer to the following examples for guidance: Example 1: Let s start with a very easy repeater configuration. Figure 6 would have 1 repeater route and the maximum number of devices would be 2 (including it s own address). Press CTRL-Enter and a repeater list shown in Figure 7 will be displayed. Unit Add. #1 #2 #3 0-1 None None None None None None None None None Figure 7: Sample Configuration List #1 To read the repeater configuration table, the addresses listed on the left column will be the / device addresses used in the site. The three columns to the right of the Unit Address column will define the address of the s that will be used as repeaters in the network. For example, refer to figure 7 and note that the first series of numbers (0-1) are direct from the Master Station. Of those two addresses (0-1) the address of 0 is reserved for the repeater address (see the second column #1). Looking at the second block of numbers from the top, you will see that address 2-3 will use / device address 0 as a repeater. Note that the addressing in Figure 6 corresponds to the repeater configuration table in Figure 7. Example 2: Figure 8 shows a complex, 13 node site with four (4) repeater routes. This example will illustrate the terms used throughout the utility and how the correspond to the stations in your site. NOTE: A repeater route consists of any in the network that repeats information to another modem. Engineering Report Page 3 Revised: 31 May 96
4 Engineering Report Route Master Station Route Enter the maximum number of repeater routes in the repeater routes box. In this example the maximum number of repeater routes would be four (4). Enter the maximum number of addresses through any repeater route or the number of direct addresses (direct repeaters included) plus the master, whichever is greater. Type this value in the maximum address block. In example 8 the maximum number of addresses through any repeater route would be three (3) (see route #3, Figure 8), but the number of direct address plus the master would be five (5). Select the larger of these two numbers (5) and press CTRL-Enter. Unit Add. #1 #2 # None None None None None None None None None None None None None None None Figure 9: Sample Configuration List #2 A repeater list shown in Figure 9 will be displayed. To read the repeater configuration table, the addresses listed on the left column will be the / device addresses used in the site. The three columns to the right of the Unit Address column will define the address of the s that will be used as repeaters in the network. For example, refer to figure 9 and note that the first series of numbers (0-19) are all direct from the Master Station. Of those twenty addresses (0-19) the addresses 0, 5, 10, and 15 are reserved for repeater Route 1 Route Figure 8: Sample Routing addresses (see the second column #1). Looking at the second row of numbers from the top, you will see that address will use / address 0 as a repeater (see Figure 8, route 2) and / address will repeat through address 5 (see Figure 8, route 1). To use multiple repeaters, (see Figure 8, routes 3 and 4) follow the repeater configuration chart to determine addresses of the repeater s. Notice that the first address in any group that uses a repeater (address in left column) will be the following repeater group s repeater address. Look at Figure 9 and notice that the second group of addresses saved for repeaters ( #2, Figure 9) 20, 25, 30, and 35 are the first address in group from Number #1. For example, addresses repeat through / addresses 0 (first repeater) and 20 (second repeater) (see Figure 8, route 4). Use the configuration table for addressing the remote / in your site. Proceed to step If you are not programming the master in a repeater network, the destination address screen will be displayed. Type in the address or the address path where the will send data. For example, refer to Figure 8. If you were programming the at address 26, your destination address would be1 with the repeater address of 5. If you were programming address 60, your destination address would be 1 with address 40 as the first repeater, 20 as the second repeater, and address 0 as the third repeater. Type the destination address and CTRL-Enter. 11. The Save Menu will be displayed (Figure 10). Select Save to Connected. This will save your parameters to your s non-volatile memory. After the program has been saved, press ESC to return to the Control System s Menu. NOTE: The specific program you are saving will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen in the Setup Program box. You can save these parameters to disk for later use. 12. Set Bit 8 (Switch 8 on the RS-232 Setup Switch, Figure 5) to ON. Bit 8 enables the Auto-Connect feature of the. Configure the RS- 232 Setup Switch to the parameters that match the serial port.
