A new generation of control systems has been developed, incorporating the latest trends and developments in the field of personal computers (PCs) and programmable logic controls (PLC). battenfeld-cincinnati automation systems are designed for a wide range of applications from single extruders to complex extrusion lines. The systems contain the complete sequencing logic, temperature control as well as standardized interfaces for the integration of intelligent sensors and downstream equipment. Several modules for process control and documentation support an optimal production process. 3 To cope with the various demands of our customers, battenfeld- cincinnati continues to offer the two well known control systems, the EXcXP-touch and the BMC touch. Large displays allow the visualization and user-friendly operation of the whole extrusion process at a central location as well as browsing the complete extruder control s user manual on demand. The intuitive touch-screen input concept combined with a clear and consistent presentation scheme provides a clear overview of the actual machine state and production details. The highly dependable WindowsXP embedded operating system for visualization allows the usage of state-of-the-art technologies by simultaneously offering an extremely high degree of operational availability. Highest system reliability and flexibility are achieved by the combination of an industrial PC for high-performance process visualization and a separate extruder logic real-time processor.

4 Special features of the EXcXP-touch In addition to the classic control keyboard, the EXcXP-touch includes two more, online switchable keyboards for One-Touch drive control free of charge. As an option, customized user specific keyboard layouts are available. Line control station for co-extrusion lines (optional) Data acquisitions (optional): EXc-DAt basic package All-in-one solution for data collection, storage and statistical analysis of up to 50 selectable parameters per extruder (up to 3 extruders in a basic package) Extensible to a central, production-wide machine and production data acquisition system Special features of the BMC touch Complex multi layer extrusion lines with up to seven extruders in combination with the associated downstream equipment can be controlled comfortably from a single terminal at a central position of the line. Client-server technology allows connecting additional terminals on customers demand. So information can be provided at all necessary places, in particular for complex lines. Also, data from multiple lines can be sampled, combined and displayed at a central location. This allows a comfortable overview of the complete production.

5 Advantages of battenfeld-cincinnati control systems: The integrated temperature control makes use of advanced control algorithm implementations to allow optimized auto-tuning of all parameters as well as minimized heat-up and transition times - without loss of stability. Moreover, excellent quality standards can be reached without special skills in temperature control on the part of the machine operator. The Controller Area Network (CAN) field bus technology - already proven in motor vehicles and airplanes - allows safe, digital communication with all connected drives and various other CANbus-able controls, sensors and actuators. Plug & Play compatibility of extruders with downstream aggregates from a large number of different manufacturers is ensured by the standardized CiA DSP420 and Euromap E27 protocols. The open control concept allows a seamless integration of additional processing components such as dosing feeders, gravimetric systems, melt pumps, wall thickness measurement systems etc. The systems can also generate customized reports for process documentation, which can be printed or saved on mass storage media (USB) and network servers. Remote operation and/or servicing of the control system can be effected either via direct modem connection, LAN Network or Internet connection. The necessary components are included as standard in each control system. Remote maintenance permits real remote operation, including control and process diagnostics. Even program modifications, such as activation or adjustment of various options, can be effected this way. Optionally, the standardized OPC protocol allows convenient data access to all relevant process parameters. Optional modules for energy monitoring, production monitoring and maintenace monitoring round off a group of modules to support processors in optimizing the efficiency of their extrusion lines.
