D.L.S. recently added 8,000 sq. ft. dedicated to specialized military and avionics testing, to its existing 22,000 sq. ft. building.

2 Large test chamber 36 x 25 x 20 high with auxiliary cooled shield room and noise controlled annex Photos by Roger Swanberg Test Rooms: Three of our seven Mil/RTCA test rooms are 36' x 25' x 20' high and were built specifically to meet the latest requirements of both standards. They are among the largest military/avionics test rooms available. High power loads, auxiliary equipment and noisy mechanical drives are often required to test large systems. Since D.L.S. is concerned about the work environment, we have built 11 x 20 x 12 high annex sound-reduction rooms. (See room on far right in above photo.) These annex rooms allow for remote mechanical power to be brought in via a noise-controlled annex, without exposing the personnel to high-level audio noise. We have also added 6 x 6 x 7 high RF shield rooms for auxiliary loads and support equipment. (See room in center foreground in above photo.) All annex rooms allow the support equipment to be cooled in an area separate from the main chamber, allowing airflow of up to 15,000 cubic feet per minute (cfm). D.L.S. s entire facility is air-conditioned to create an ideal work environment. We have oversized access doors to accommodate extra large products. (See lower left photo.) We have also built very large test tables, as this testing requires inter-connecting cables to be exposed to the test environment along their entire length. 3 Air handling unit Heat can be transferred using our Ethylene Glycol distribution system, which is available to both test rooms and is cooled by a 120,000 BTU/H chiller (10 tons). Also, our staff writes the computer scripts for the control software, thus enabling them to thoroughly understand the tests they are performing. EMC Standards and Product Regulations. How to cope with ESD problems. Rohde and Schwarz receiver The second class is Design Techniques for Controlling Radiated Emissions. In it you will be given a design oriented, practical approach for controlling radiated EMI in electronic design. It is offered as a follow-up to our first class and takes the basics learned in that course and applies them to practical, real life, radiated emissions problems. In the second course you will learn: A step-by-step design approach for controlling radiated emissions starting at the circuit board level and progressing through the power supply, back plane, cabling and enclosure shielding. The use of simple mathematical and graphical procedures to predict and adjust designs to control radiated EMI. Troubleshooting strategies and techniques to correct radiated EMI problems. Following the class you will then be given the opportunity to take the new information you have learned and, in a 45-minute personal consultation with the instructor or his associate, apply these concepts to your specific product. The first class is Introduction to Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) Design Practices. This class will help you develop a working knowledge of EMC fundamentals including regulations, grounding, shielding and filtering using an engineering approach while keeping the level of mathematics to a minimum.
