1 Avaya Solutio & Iteroperability Test Lab Applicatio Notes for Cofigurig Dasa Electro Headsets from JPL Europe with Avaya 9600 Series IP Deskphoes usig a DA-30 Cord Issue 1.0 Abstract These Applicatio Notes describe the cofiguratio steps for provisioig the Dasa Electro headsets usig a DA-30 RJ9 cord from JPL Europe with the 9600 Series IP deskphoes from Avaya to esure full iteroperability. Iformatio i these Applicatio Notes has bee obtaied through DevCoect compliace testig ad additioal techical discussios. Testig was coducted via the DevCoect Program at the Avaya Solutio ad Iteroperability Test Lab. 1 of 13

2 1. Itroductio These Applicatio Notes describe the cofiguratio steps for provisioig Dasa Electro headsets from JPL Europe usig a DA-30 cord with Avaya 9600 Series IP deskphoes. JPL Europe desig ad develop professioal headsets for the Corporate, Fiacial, Health, Govermet, Educatioal, Idustrial, Hotel & Hospitality ad Cotact Cetre market sectors. 2. Geeral Test Approach ad Test Results The iteroperability compliace testig evaluates the ability for the combiatio of headset ad chord from JPL Europe to coect to the Avaya 9600 series IP deskphoes ad allow users of the deskphoe to speak ad liste whe a call is either made or received. The Avaya deskphoe user should be clearly heard ad observed without ay distortios or audio issues. DevCoect Compliace Testig is coducted joitly by Avaya ad DevCoect members. The joitly-defied test pla focuses o exercisig APIs ad/or stadards-based iterfaces pertiet to the iteroperability of the tested products ad their fuctioalities. DevCoect Compliace Testig is ot iteded to substitute full product performace or feature testig performed by DevCoect members, or is it to be costrued as a edorsemet by Avaya of the suitability or completeess of a DevCoect member s solutio. Avaya s formal testig ad Declaratio of Coformity is provided oly o the headsets/hadsets that carry the Avaya brad or logo. Avaya may coduct testig of o-avaya headset/hadset to determie iteroperability with Avaya phoes. However, Avaya does ot coduct the testig of o-avaya headsets/hadsets for: Acoustic Pressure, Safety, Hearig Aid Compliace, EMC regulatios, or ay other tests to esure coformity with safety, audio quality, log-term reliability or ay regulatio requiremets. As a result, Avaya makes o represetatios whether a particular o-avaya headset will work with Avaya s telephoes or with a differet geeratio of the same Avaya telephoe. Sice there is o idustry stadard for hadset iterfaces, differet maufacturers utilize differet hadset/headset iterfaces with their telephoes. Therefore, ay claim made by a headset vedor that its product is compatible with Avaya telephoes does ot equate to a guaratee that the headset will provide adequate safety protectio or audio quality. 2 of 13

3 2.1. Iteroperability Compliace Testig The iteroperability compliace testig icludes testig o the latest versio of Avaya IP ad digital telephoes. The model series headsets used for compliace testig icluded the followig: DH-027T (JPL-601PM, JPL-601PB, JPL-602PM, JPL-602PB) (Aget-500, Aget-600, Aget-700 ad Aget-800) series DH-031T (Radius-2000, Radius-2100, Radius-2200, Radius-2300) headsets, which will be referred to as [DH-031T (Radius Series) headsets]. DH-035T headsets. The followig series of Avaya telephoes are tested agaist. Hardware Software Avaya 9608 H323 Avaya 9620 H323 Avaya 9630 SIP Avaya 9620 SIP Avaya 9630 SIP RJ-9 Leads/Cords used. DA-30 (Gei) DA-22S 2.2. Test Results All compliace test cases passed successfully. The followig observatio was oted. No cofiguratio chages were made o the Avaya telephoe. 4 3. Referece Cofiguratio Figure 1 shows the etwork topology durig compliace testig. The Dasa Electro headsets from JPL Europe are coected via the headset port usig a DA-30 RJ-9 modular plug supplied by JPL Europe to the Avaya 9600 Series deskphoes. 6 5. Cofigure Avaya Commuicatio Maager It is assumed that a fully fuctioig Commuicatio Maager is i place with the ecessary licesig. For further iformatio o the cofiguratio of Commuicatio Maager please see Sectio 9 of these Applicatio Notes Cofigurig Avaya Telephoes It is assumed that the Avaya 9600 telephoes are all cofigured. For further iformatio o how to cofigure these Avaya telephoes please see Sectio 9 of these Applicatio Notes. Note: A example of a cofigured Avaya 9620 H323 ad a Avaya 9630 SIP telephoe are icluded i the Appedix of these Applicatio Notes Settig the audio path o a Avaya 9600 IP Telephoe Each Avaya 9600 IP telephoe ca be set to go off-hook o the speaker or the headset whe a o-hook call is made.if auto-aswer is set up, icomig calls are also aswered o the default audio path desigated here. This settig also determies whether the voice diallig feature gets its iput from the speaker or the headset. Procedure is as follows. 1. Press Avaya Meu. 2. Select Optios & Settigs. 3. Press Select or OK. 4. Select Call Settigs. 5. Press Select or OK. 6. Select Audio Path. 7. Press Chage or OK or use the Right/Left arrows to chage the speaker or headset settig. Press Save. 6 of 13

7 6. Cofigure Dasa Electro Headsets to work with Avaya telephoes There are several RJ-9 cords available to coect the Dasa Electro headsets to the Avaya telephoes depedig o the telephoe i questio. For the Avaya 9600 series telephoes there are two possible cords that are compatible but the suggested cord for use is the DA-30 Cord i positio Coectig to Avaya 9600 Series Telephoes I coectig the Dasa Electro headsets to the Avaya 9600 series telephoes the suggested cord to use is the DA-30 i positio 4 or the DA-22S cord. The DA-30 offers 8 switch positios which ca be chaged by selectig positio 1 8 alog the side of the cord. After compliace testig it was agreed that positio 4 proved the best for audio ad speech. The DA-22S offered similar results as the DA-30 i positio Verificatio Steps The followig steps ca be take to esure that coectios betwee the Dasa Electro) headsets ad Avaya telephoes are achieved. 1. Whe the headset is coected to the telephoe set press the headset key o the telephoe set. The headset LED should light up ad dial toe should be heard. 2. To aswer a call press the headset key whe the telephoe is rigig agai the headset LED should be lit. 7 of 13
