3 Priceto Istrumets Camera Priceto Istrumets Camera Overview The Video Maager supports both the geeral purpose MicroMAX ad the high speed PetaMAX camera cotrollers. These cotrollers may be used with a wide rage of camera heads. Priceto Istrumets provide: A PCI frame grabber card A camera cotroller: MicroMAX or PetaMAX The required camera head. Follow the maufacturer s istructios for istallig the PCI frame grabber card ad coectig the camera to the Macitosh. The driver for the PCI card is automatically istalled whe you istall the PI Video module. This chapter describes how to set up ad use the Video Maager with Priceto Istrumets cameras. 4 OPENLAB Video Maager Setup Pael Whe you select Priceto Istrumets as your video source, the followig setup dialogue is displayed. Notes o the Setup Dialogue Refer to Chapter 16 of the Opelab User Guide for more iformatio about the Video Source, Iput, Format, Scalig ad Capture depth pop-up meus, ad for step-by-step istructios o usig the Video Maager Setup dialogue. The type of iput determies the camera cotroller. This, together with the CCD, will determie which other optios are available. We have selected MicroMAX i the followig example. 2 Video Maager

Priceto Istrumets Camera Iput The Iput pop-up meu allows you to specify the type of camera cotroller that you are usig. Most istallatios use either the MicroMAX or the PetaMAX cotroller.

ADC The ADC pop-up meu allows you to specify the bit depth ad speed for the audiodigital coverter. The optios that appear i this meu are determied by your camera cotroller ad CCD head.

5 Priceto Istrumets Camera Iput The Iput pop-up meu allows you to specify the type of camera cotroller that you are usig. Most istallatios use either the MicroMAX or the PetaMAX cotroller. CCD The CCD pop-up meu allows you to specify the type of camera CCD head that you are usig. If your CCD does ot appear i the list, cotact Improvisio. ADC The ADC pop-up meu allows you to specify the bit depth ad speed for the audiodigital coverter. The optios that appear i this meu are determied by your camera cotroller ad CCD head. 16 bit optios produce high resolutio images, but the rate of capture is very slow. Gai The Gai pop-up meu will be eabled if it is appropriate for your camera cotroller ad CCD head. The optios i this meu will also vary depedig upo the type of camera. MicroMAX cotrollers allow you to select a gai factor. PetaMAX cotrollers allow you to select a gai mode. Refer to your camera documetatio for further details. Video Maager 3

6 OPENLAB Shutter The Shutter pop-up meu allows you to specify a mode for the shutter. Always Ope: allows you to capture images more quickly, but you may get smearig where bright objects leave a trail across the image. Always Closed: allows you to capture dark images for backgroud subtractio. Biig The Biig cotrols allow you to specify idepedet biig values for the horizotal ad vertical axes of the CCD array, up to a maximum of 32x32. Refer to Appedix A of the Opelab User Guide for more iformatio about CCD arrays. Temp The Temp cotrol allows you to set the temperature of the CCD, ad the display shows you the actual temperature. Refer to Appedix A of the Opelab User Guide for more iformatio about CCD coolig. Video Cotrols You ca use the Video Cotrols Palette to cotrol the followig video settigs. You ca also use the slider cotrol o the Video Maager Setup dialogue to cotrol oe of the settigs: Exposure Bit Shift Colourisatio Refer to Chapter 16 of the Opelab User Guide for more iformatio. Optimisig Performace Refer to Chapter 16 of the Opelab User Guide for geeral guidelies. Your mai optios for optimisig the video capture rate are: Select a higher biig rate. Select a 12 bit depth ad the fastest speed available i the ADC meu optios. Set the Capture depth o the Video Maager Setup dialogue to Fastest. Reduce the documet size. 4 Video Maager

Refer to the Automator Referece Guide for detailed istructios about usig the Automator, ad for a example Video Maager automatio. Capture Layer Task This task allows you to capture a layer frame. The Setup dialogue allows you to specify: A expressio which will create a ame for the captured layer. Whether the captured layer should be brought to the top so that you ca see it i the Documet Widow. Whether the scree is to be updated. Disable scree updates, if you ecouter memory problems while ruig the automatio. Whether asychroous captures are allowed. This allows Opelab to capture frames at a higher speed, but the frame grabber ad automatio are ot sychroised. If you are usig the Moochromator, you may ot wat to eable asychroous capture as this may cause frames to be exposed icorrectly. A target layer depth. The default settig is the oe that you have set up i the Video Maager Setup dialogue. Eter a expressio to create a ame for the layer Check to brig ew layer to top Check to disable scree updates Check to eable asychroous captures Select layer depth from pop-up meu Video Maager 5

8 OPENLAB Set Video Cotrol Task This task allows you to assig a specific value to a video cotrol durig the automatio. Before you use this task, you must set up the video cotrol o the Video Cotrol Palette. The Setup dialogue allows you to specify: The ame of the video cotrol. You must eter sufficiet iformatio to idetify the video cotrol. It is ot case sesitive ad you ca shorte the ame, as log as it is still uiquely idetifiable (for example: expos). A expressio which will assig a value to the video cotrol. Eter the ame of the video cotrol Eter a expressio to assig a value to the cotrol 6 Video Maager
