1 Agilent N2533A RMP 4.0 Remote Management Processor Data Sheet Description The Agilent RMP 4.0 is a highly integrated Remote Management Processor. Its small package and flexible hardware design is suitable for: Standard and rack-mount servers Blade servers Embedded and accessory cards Telecommunication systems and industrial computers Other appliances such as storage, networking, etc. RMP 4.0 Architecture The RMP 4.0 is a complete remote management system in a single chip. Numerous independent functional blocks monitor the system whilst simultaneously processing and encrypting KVM, storage data and network traffic in hardware. This results in premium performance at the highest level of security available today. Applications KVM over Serial over (SoL) Remote Storage Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) Features ARM 926 CPU, 192 MHz clock speed, MMU DMA unit with 4 external channels One external DDR-1 SDRAM (up to 128MBytes / 32Mbytes required by Agilent standard firmware) Four external Flash/SRAMs (up to 16MBytes each / 4 MBytes required by Agilent standard firmware) Integrated Advanced Video Redirection (AVR) unit for KVM over Built-in encryption hardware USB 2.0 high-speed (12 endpoints) LPC slave interface (SMIC,3 KCS, BT, emulated UART, and Agilent Mailbox) MAC: 10/100 Mbit, MII interface Two FML/I²Cs, three direct I²Cs, one I²C with integrated 1:4 multiplexer Two, one /RS485 8 dedicated GPIOs, 46 shared GPIOs RoHS compliant 384 pin PBGA package

RMP 4.0 Block Diagram RMP 4.0 Application in a Server System In a typical setup, the RMP 4.0 Remote Management Processor performs all baseboard management tasks. It can implement the IPMI 2.0 specifications as well as monitor and control the system events logs and perform paging tasks. For remote access it can run an embedded Web-server, provide a Command Line Interface (CLI) according to the DMTF specification and provide a SNMP MIB. Remote system operation includes KVM over, Serial over and Remote Storage. 2 A complete RMP 4.0 solution consists of the RMP 4.0 chip, external DDR SDRAM and Flash memory. If the integrated or serial interfaces are used for remote access, external PHYs will be needed accordingly. For control and monitoring tasks, the RMP 4.0 facilitates its integrated General Purpose Input Outputs (GPIOs) and I²C busses to access sensor s. Remote access is supported in many different setups: RMP 4.0 can connect an external modem via. It integrates a 10/100 Base-T MAC for dedicated management. Additionally, it can connect to different sideband interfaces of standard chips such as SMBus, FML and UMP. Serial over allows for remote operation of the server via a terminal interface. A terminal interface, that is connected either physically via an link or provided via the RMP 4.0 s LPC interface, can be made available via one of the RMP 4.0 s remote access interfaces. KVM over allows for remote server operation similar to Serial over but uses the server s video output and keyboard and mouse inputs instead. Therefore, the RMP 4.0 s built-in Advanced Video Redirection (AVR) unit interfaces with the server s video interface and USB bus. The RMP 4.0 can get video data with its DVO interface, which is provided by many different graphics chips as well
3 as from DVI or analog video sources. For DVI and analog video, external converters are needed. The AVR unit processes the incoming video stream and makes it remotely accessible. Agilent s unique AVR unit uses intelligent algorithms to significantly reduce network traffic. The operator s remote keyboard and mouse are connected as virtual s via the RMP 4.0 s USB. Remote storage is a feature that uses storage data available from the network, which simulates virtual USB storage s to the server by using the RMP 4.0 s integrated USB. For example, a remote operator could use a floppy drive on his workstation to connect it as a virtual drive to the server system. The RMP 4.0 also allows for feature extensions. 5 Firmware Packages and Development Kits The RMP 4.0 chip is bundled with a driver kit that eases firmware development. Additionally, Agilent offers a choice of the following firmware Modules to be used in combination with a base firmware framework.
