3 RTU32 is built for applications with high demands on reliability, such as utilities communications. Electricity The acceptance and use of industry standard protocols such as EN/ IEC , 103 and 104, as well as IEC61850 and DNP3 makes the RTU32 the obvious choice for applications in connection with sub-station automation, power plant control and customer metering. The connectivity of the RTU32 allows the connection of the RTUs to intelligent reclosers and other field devices. RTU32 users in the electricity industry include Areva (Germany/France), ABB (Germany), Cegelec (France) and Alstom (Norway). Telecommunications The RTU32 communication facilities include SNMP, enabling RTU32 to report directly to network management by sending alarm traps. Also, the RTU32 supports GET and SET commands, enabling readings of measurement values and execution of commands and settings. RTU32 is typically installed in telecommunication applications with a demand for environmental alarm monitoring. The RTUs are located at transmission sites and monitors, for example, temperature, humidity, door open/close, fire alarms and access control. RTU32 users in the telecommunications industry include Telia (Sweden/Germany) and Telenor (Norway). Infrastructure The RTU32 is used in a variety of monitoring and control solutions within infrastructure applications. Air traffic applications include monitoring of aircraft landing systems, which require a system solution with a high level of failsafe and redundant features. RTU32 users in the infrastructure industry include Copenhagen Airport (Denmark), Frankfurt Airport (Germany), Banedanmark (Rail Net Denmark, Denmark) and Athens Municipal Traffic Control (Greece). Water and Wastewater Applications for RTU32 in the water and wastewater industry include monitoring and control of equipment at pump stations, reservoirs, treatment plants, pipelines, meters, valve stations, dosing points and water quality sites. RTU32 users in the water and wastewater industry include Logica, Anglian Water, Yorkshire Water (all UK), Latakia Water (Syria), Ministry of Works (Bahrain) and National Water Supply and Drainage Board (Sri Lanka). Oil & Gas - Offshore RTU32 has ideal facilities and performance in order to fulfill the requirements for the offshore and oil and gas industry. The applications often require redundancy, and pipeline management systems require hundreds of RTUs with distributed networks for metering and leakage control, covering thousands of kilometers in different climates and temperatures. RTU32 users include: Cegelec (Germany), ABB (Germany), STEG (Tunesia), and Semco Maritime (Denmark).

The RTU32 utility controller offers the functionality and performance of a traditional RTU, PLC, IPC and Data Concentrator all in one. Powerful CPU on open WinCE platform RTU32 provides control capabilities that were previously only available in PLCs. A powerful 32-bit processor with large memory capacity and real-time WinCE 5.0 operating system ensures fast application processing, communication and data storage. Compatible with many devices and networks The RTU32 supports multiple drivers and protocols, making it a unique gateway between systems with different communication protocols, as well as providing connection to a wide range of local devices such as PLCs, flow computers and other instrumentation. Time stamped event data The RTU32 provides flexible scan rates, event logging and timetagged data. Time-tagged data and fast scan rates in the millisecond range allow sequence of event recording and archiving of data according to the time of occurrence, rather than the time the host received the data. Redundancy and event driven communication Redundancy configuration is a standard feature, and it s only a mouse click away. The Binding (or alternatively Dual Binding) Protocol and the two Ethernet ports of the RTU32 provide the ability to obtain fast, event driven and redundant communication for applications that require high levels of system reliability. Two RTU32 units can be configured to run redundancy one active and one passive. During operation, the active RTU32 handles application execution and continuously updates all runtime data in the passive RTU32. An optional live link channel can be used to optimize switch time in case of failure on the primary (active) RTU32. To the user, the application appears as one RTU32 just program and debug on one RTU32 and the redundancy function establishes an equal mirror of the application and variable database on the other RTU32. 5 RTU32 UTILITY CONTROLLER - the perfect choice for your GATEWAY APPLICATION Direct import of IEC61850 configuration files into RTU32 tools The RTU32 supports IEC61850 Client and Server including GOOSE / GSSE (Generic Object Oriented Substation Events). The implementation of IEC61850 in RTU32 is very flexible meaning that any type of logical device can be configured in the RTU and thus the RTU32 is an ideal solution both as a standalone I/O unit and as a gateway to other systems. The ICD (SCL) file can be imported directly into the Straton workbench and the IEC61850 driver is automatically configured with all necessary profiles and variables. Time-saving configuration tool for EN/IEC /103/104 With the configuration tool for the EN/IEC /103/104 standard utility protocol, the configuration of the RTU32 is greatly simplified, saving you a considerable number of programming hours. The protocol is widely used within the electricity and water/wastewater industries. Additionally, the configuration tool is KEMA and NUC (Norwegian User Convention) Prosam approved. Reduce downtime with SNMP protocol SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) is the common language of network monitoring and is used for telecommunications, facility, and asset monitoring applications, allowing network administrators to easily monitor the RTUs in large networks. An even more powerful feature is to use the RTU to monitor the network by sending/receiving SNMP network alarms. This feature is often used by network facility managers, and helps reduce system downtime. Flexible data logging In the PLC application, you can design your data logger according to your own requirements. All data is stored in open text files. File handling can be done with PLC functions or remotely via FTP.

7 Flexible, user-friendly programming with STRATON Workbench STRATON Workbench fully supports OLE drag and drop, includes a fast compiler, and offers complete SoftPLC functionality. IEC programming via STRATON The RTU32 is easy to configure and program yet flexible enough to adapt to any application, using the STRATON Workbench, a full development diagnostic tool with comprehensive project tracking and simulation facilities. It supports all five IEC languages (SFC, FBD, ST, LD, IL). You can configure the RTU32s remotely or locally, on-line or off-line, and from RTU to RTU, or PC to RTU. Multilingual configuration For user-friendly configuration, STRATON is available in English, German, French, Italian and Spanish. Additionally, STRATON supports all IEC languages (FBD, LD, ST, IL and SFC), which can be used in any combination. Distributed applications It is easy to link several STRATON projects with the Binding protocol (fast event based TCP/IP), which allows different applications on different target systems to exchange real-time data. Global management of several nodes/rtus as well as updating all projects at once is easy with the Global Binding Editor. Auto-documentation With only a mouse click, the wizard automatically generates documentation in HTML pages with cross references via hyperlinks, which can be saved, printed or converted to CHM. Distributed engineering Today, projects requiring thousands of lines of code are becoming very common, calling for a multi-disciplined development team as well as a multi-user development environment. STRATON allows a project to be broken down into a number of modules or subprojects so that they can be developed independently from each other, allowing you to make the most of your team s time and expertise. Integrated HMI and built-in web server RTU32 includes a web server and the STRATON Workbench integrated graphical functions enable you to design simple graphical pages which can be accessed via a standard web browser. Use the web pages for set-up and troubleshooting or for remote monitoring of process values. Standard symbols include: LED, slider, meter, bar graph, pie charts and many more. The HMI function is based on ActiveX. The ActiveX components are automatically downloaded when accessing the RTU32 HMI web page. Online tools Powerful tools are provided for online debugging and simulation of the application. Step by step debugging includes the option of placing breakpoints in the source code of the application. The Watch Window is a monitoring tool that allows the user to spy on the application variables during run time. You can create animated graphical pictures during simulation or on-line testing to display real-time values of the project variables. Configuration via web browser Setting up the RTU32 is easy. General settings, as well as network and SNMP settings, are configured via the Ethernet network interface either directly or remotely using a standard web browser. The Ethernet TCP/IP interface offers remote access to any RTU32 connected to the network.
