2 IDS SAS The IDS SAS automation system for switchgear significantly reduces costs and efforts for the installation of secondary equipment and enables clear and user-friendly operation. IDS SAS can be used on all voltage levels and - thanks to its flexible architecture - satisfies highest demands from users and with regard to future expandability. Through its integrated switchgear interlocking function, switching errors and, consequently, unnecessary risks to persons can be prevented. Furthermore, interface layers between the process and the station automation system become superfluous thanks to a direct process connection. Basic Concept IDS SAS is divided into a bay control and a station control layer. Each switchgear bay has an autarchic bay controller for connection to the process (decentralized architecture) and a cabinet-mounted workstation for local control. The system components on the station control layer fulfil centrally organized functions, passing on the data to the higher-level network control centre and to the neighbouring switchgear. The station control terminal with comprehensive SCADA functions provides a clear and precise overview of switching operations within the process. Within the IDS SAS system, the current communication standards IEC / -103 and IEC can be used either in their complete scope or in mixed variants, thereby enabling e.g. the step-bystep upgrading or expansion of a plant or system. IDS SAS also enables the quick and easy conversion to or from other protocols, thus achieving a maximum degree of independence from manufacturers. Furthermore, IDS SAS allows for seamless integration into existing control systems because it enables connection to the network control centre by means of a variety of protocols. IDS SAS is based on RTUs type IDS 650 and IDS 850 as bay controllers and substation control units or Gateways.The IDS HIGH-LEIT SCADA system is installed in the station control terminal. IDS SAS is primarily used in decentralized system structures, with the design of the communication infrastructure between the system components (bay controllers, substation control unit/gateway, protection equipment,...), depending on the chosen communication standard: IEC / -103 Star configuration based on serial products, using point-to-point data links.

The physical layout of the network structure takes into account the two parameters cost and availability. The integrated switchgear interlocking function and the enhanced overview increase ope rational safety and availability of the switch gear. For system maintenance, the parameterization and diagnostic tool IDS ACOS ET is available. Mixed variants of the two aforementioned communication structures are also possible. The consistent application of IEC-based standard protocols provides for a maximum degree of openness and data transparency as well as for the utilization of the quality information laid down in the communication standard. Fibre-optic cables are used as transmission medium to ensure fulfilment of highest demands on EMC. The open, scalable concept offers optimum connectivity with higher-level control centres. The clear and simple system structure reduces the scope of equipment and cabling efforts. Thanks to the flexible, modular system architecture, system expansion is possible in different stages and at any time. Station Control Terminal and Substation Control Unit/Gateway The system component substation control unit/gateway fulfils centrally organized functions, such as passing on data to the higher-level network control centre and to the neighbouring switchgear, as well as monitoring and synchronizing the bay units and compressing information that is to be sent in the direction of the network control centre. The substation control unit/gateway is able to communicate with several network control centres by means of several different protocols. In order to satisfy different information requirements, it is possible to assign individual profiles to the telecontrol interfaces.

Substation Control Unit /Gateway - Details: Complete scope of functions of all standard IDS 850 and IDS 650 modules Freely configurable links for each communication interface Synchronization via radio clock, GPS or NTP server; time synchronization of the complete station automation system Generation of group alarms for each telecontrol interface Execution of centrally organized functions. Bay Controllers The station control terminal is based on the IDS HIGH-LEIT SCADA system for process visualization and operation and for protocol generation. System operation via the station control terminal provides a better and clearer overview of the complete system, as well as the comfortable system control features of a SCADA system. Topological colouring of the power grid supports the safe operation of the system and, in combination with a comprehensive interlocking function, prevents switching errors. The creation of switching sequences with step-by-step check of forwarding conditions ensures additional safety. Comprehensive event logs replace the formerly used operation logs. If required, local read-out of protection data and their evaluation by means of IDS alarm graphs can be integrated in the station control terminal, thereby enabling the digital evaluation of protection data. Import of fault logs from the digital protection equipment and their storage is also possible. The integrated fault log evaluation function enables Bay controllers serve as an interface between the station control layer and the primary equipment. They can be installed both in bay-specific local control cabinets and in the l.v. area of a switchgear bay. Local control and feedback from the switchgear bay takes place via the ACOS Touchview control display which can be installed either in the bay or in a central local control panel. The freely configurable diaplay permits both the graphic visualization of the switchgear bay and the display of status signals in text form. Bay control, local control and remote control are interlocked against each other via lockswitch. The output of commands is subject to extensive preliminary checks, plausibility checks and comprehensive interlockings. In the event of emergency operation, the interlocking function can be circumvented by means of a lockswitch. ACOS Touchview If the user s control concept is based on a local control with conventional operating elements, instead of a control panel, this variant, of course, can also be implemented. This system structure also enables system control via the conventional local control mechanisms, supported by the system-wide interlocking function.

5 Network control layer (IEC / -104 or proprietary protocol) Network-based configuration on the basis of TCP / IP-based protocols (IEC 61850) Connection to the process takes place via modules that are specially designed for application in high- and medium-voltage switchgear. The bay-specific interlock in the bay computer provides elementary protection in the event of a failure of the superordinate system interlock. Thanks to the high switching capacity of the command outputs, switchgear can be controlled without intermediate link relays. The bay controller is rounded off by a modular three-phase current measuring system which can be connected directly to the CVC, calculating all electric parameters such as apparent power, real power, cos phi and active energy and apparent energy, and providing them in the form of measured values and counter values. A parallel switching device is available as add-on to the measuring system. It can be used for combining and integrating functions which, in conventional systems, are implemented separately in different devices. Automation functions such as the control of transformer taps and earth leakage coils can be easily implemented, just as the connection of existing devices.
