The data exchange between the counter and the user program is performed by using the input and output operands. Fast counter I/O operands are created automatically during set-up. The fast counter library is included automatically into project if fast counter is configured.

10 Set-up procedure Counter Settings The fast counter is activated and set by a parameter of the module. Counter settings are to be made in the project software Resources \ PLC Configuration. The amount of parameters depends on the module type.

21 Features (S500 Digital I/O Modules, DC551 and CI592) Maximum counting frequency 50 khz respectively depends on operating mode. If using DC modules each counting input has to be externally circuited in series with a resistor of 470 / 1W (to avoid influences from deactivated module output). The positive edge signals are counted if not noted differently. When the counter reaches programmed end value the output CF = TRUE is generated permanently. CF is reset to FALSE by setting the counter again (set value).

26 Module DC541-CM: Fast Counter (1) The digital input/output module contains 8 channels: C0 C7 Up to 4 DC541 can be operated by a PM57x, PM58x or PM59x CPU The counter module DC541 can be used alternatively in one of two operating modes: fast counting device Interrupt input / output device

27 Module DC541-CM: Fast Counter (2) The module functionality in both operating modes is independent of the program cycle. The implementation of the module function is performed by function blocks. The library is loaded automatically into the project. Visualizations are available.

There are different types of interrupt tasks: Ext_CouplerX_InputAny Task triggered by any interrupt from module with specific priority Ext_CouplerX_InputAny_high_prio Task triggered by any interrupt from module with highest priority. The task execution time must not exceed approximately 400 µs
