3 Important information This upgrade kit is for use within the BMW dealership organisation only. Target group The target group for these installation instructions is specialist personnel trained on BMW cars with specialist knowledge of vehicle electrical systems. Work: All servicing, repair and installation work on BMW cars is completed at your own risk. All work is to be carried out using current BMW - Repair manuals - Circuit diagrams in a rational order using the prescribed tools (special tools) and observing current health and safety regulations. Safety instructions The current accident prevention regulations must be followed. Refer to the safety instructions for handling components of the airbag system. To install and connect the hands-free control module Insert the module holder () on the left-hand side of the boot () and secure it with hexagonal nuts M6 () and a hexagonal screw M6 (). 5 Z Place speed nuts () on the module holder (). 5 Z Connect branch B to the black, 5-pin plug X599 on the standard wiring harness (). 8 . To install and connect the hands-free control module Insert the hands-free control module () into the module holder () and secure it with the bar () and a hexagonal screw M5 (). 5 Z Retrofit / Installation kit No. 8 6 Installation Instructions No Issue date:. EN/8

9 5. To install and connect the eject box Undo the Allen bolts () from the armrest () and remove the cover (). 5 5 Z Take all the springs () out of the armrest (). Remove both bolts () with a punch and pull the guide arms () upwards. 5 6 Z Unclip the covers () from the guide arms (). 5 7 Z Pull the slide plate () on the armrest () backwards as far as it will go. Release the retaining pins on the oddments box () with screwdrivers () and unclip the oddments box (). 5 8 Z Retrofit / Installation kit No. 8 6 Installation Instructions No Issue date:. EN/9

10 5. To install and connect the eject box Clip the eject box () into the armrest (). Attach the telephone cable () under the guide () as shown. 5 8 Z Screw the cable guide () into the armrest () and insert the telephone cable () as shown. 5 9 Z Insert the interface () into the armrest (). 6 Connect the -pin eject box plug () into the interface (). Insert the cable () from the interface () into the guide arm (5) and fit the cover (6) again. 5 5 Z Insert the eject box cable () into the guide arm () and fit the cover () again. 11 5. To install and connect the eject box Install the armrest back on to the centre console. Lay the interface cable (), 6-pin black plug () for the eject box and the aerial cable () for the eject box as shown. Connect the plug () from the eject box and the plug () from the interface. 5 Z Release the tied back, black 8-pin plug X55 and the aerial cable () from the standard wiring harness. A! The adapter cable A must be fitted. Connect the adapter cable A between plug X55 and the 8-pin plug () from the interface. 12 6. To install the hands-free microphone Thread the tied back plug X through the microphone opening () in the headlining console (). X 5 Z Clip the hands-free microphone () into the microphone trim () you removed earlier. X Connect plug X to the hands-free microphone (). 5 5 Z The arrow on the hands-free microphone () must point to the front of the car. Concluding work and coding This upgrade system does not require coding. - Conduct a brief test with DIS/MoDiC. - Conduct a function test - Assemble the car again following the instructions to dismantle it in reverse order. If necessary, the circuit diagram for the telephone preparation (SA 6) and for the adapter cables can be taken from the installation instructions entitled Telephone upgrade circuit diagrams, part No on the installation instructions CD.
