1 Quick reference guide to using the Elgar PIP9012A series plug in programmers. Some of the features described herein are options installed on the power source and/or the PIP9012A. The following section will help in determine the presence of these options. (Note: Many Elgar sources and plug in modules are modified to meet special requirements. This document is ment to cover only the standard products. Contact Elgar for information if any questions regarding operation or identification of non standard products arise. Power source options These options are the Output Disconnect Relay and the Range Change Relay options. These can be identified as follows: Output disconnect relay: The letter "D" will appear in the model number as shown on the nameplate. i.e. 1001SL-12D or 501SX-14D. Range change relay: The number 4,8,5 will appear in the model number on the nameplate in the second digit after the first dash number. i.e. 1001SL-14 or 1001SX Test option: The letter "T" will appear in the model number as shown on the nameplate. i.e. 1001SL-12T or 501SX-14T. PIP9012A Options On the PIP9012A series, the TEST option is identified by the letter T appearing on the nameplate: i.e. PIP9012A-1T or PIP9012A-3T PIP9012A-1T-101.

In voltage program, the decimal point is always located between the third and fourth digits. ie. XXX.X To set volts: [1][3][1][5][#][1] To set volts: [1][3][0][0][#][1] To set 46.5 volts: [0][4][6][5][#][1] Frequency program Four number keys must be pressed, followed by the [#] key then [6] key. The location of the decimal point is dependent on the frequency range Selected: (see Changing Frequency Ranges) Hz range: between second and third digit XX.XX Hz range: between third and fourth digit XXX.X Hz range: to the right of the fourth digit XXXX. To set 47.75Hz in the Hz range [4][7][7][5][#][6]

3 To set 475.8Hz in the Hz range [4][7][5][8][#][6] To set 4500Hz in the Hz range [4][5][0][0][#][6] Changing Frequency Range One number key must be pressed, followed by the [#] key then [7] key. To set Hz range: [0][#][7] To set Hz range: [1][#][7] To set Hz range: [2][#][7] Note: Default values for each range are set on power up: Hz range: 60.00Hz Hz range: 400.0Hz Hz range: 0400Hz (Power up default range and frequency) Changing Voltage Range One number key must be pressed, followed by the [#] key then [8] key. To set program range to volts: [0][#][8] To set program range to volts: [1][#][8] 260V LED on display lights (to be used with sources having and volt ranges) NOTE: If power source is equipped with range change relays, the PIP9012A will toggle the output configuration accordingly. If the source is not equipped with range change relays, the jumpers on the source must be set for the same range as selected. The output voltage is automatically dropped to zero to prevent relay contact arcing and damage to loads powered by source. The voltage must be reprogrammed. Output Disconnect Relay Control One number key must be pressed, followed by the [#] key then [3] key. Open the output relay: [0][#][3] Close output relay: [1][#][3] CLS LED on display lights To Recall Programmed Values

4 The [*] key must be pressed, followed by [1],[6], or [9] To recall programmed voltage [*][1] To recall programmed frequency [*][6] To recall programmed current limit [*][9] NOTE: Current limit programming / recall will not function unless the PIP9012A is equipped with a TEST option and the power source are both equipped with the TEST option To Measure A single number key pressed followed by [#] key then the [4] key. To measure frequency: [0][#][4] To measure A phase voltage: [1][#][4] To measure B phase voltage: [2][#][4] To measure C phase voltage: [3][#][4] To measure A phase current: [4][#][4] To measure B phase current: [5][#][4] To measure C phase current: [6][#][4] To measure A phase wattage: [7][#][4] To measure B phase wattage: [8][#][4] To measure C phase wattage: [9][#][4] The display will continuously update reading until another key is pressed. Note: The measure function is available only if the PIP9012A is equipped with the test option and the power source is equipped with the test option. To set a current limit Four number keys must be pressed, followed by the [#] key then [9] key. In current limit program, the decimal point is always located between the second and third digits. i.e. XX.XX To set a limit of 5.5A: [0][5][5][0][#][9] To set a limit of 12.0A: [1][2][0][0][#][9] To set to max limit: [0][0][0][0][#][9] Note: The current limit will not function if the measurement function is in operation.

5 Note: The current limit function is available only if the PIP9012A is equipped with the test option and the power source is equipped with the test option. PIP9012A Operation, Advanced Line cycle drop out programming the PIP9012A Drop a number of line cycles The function of the drop key is dependent on the setting of jumper W1 on PIP9012A main board. In order to drop full cycles, the jumper labeled W1 on the main board must be set to the alternate position. NOTE: When the alternate jumper position is selected, several important changes occur. 1) The ZERO command still causes the voltage change to occur at zero crossing, but it now will do so only on a positive going edge. 2) The PEAK command will no longer effect a voltage change on the peak of a wave, but will change on a zero crossing only on a negative going edge. 3) If the test option (The letter T designation in the model number)is installed, the command FREQ command will read back 1/2 of the true frequency. If R25 on the Test Board is increased to 21K, then R23 will calibrate FREQ readback properly while in the full drop cycles mode (jumper W1 installed). 4) The DROP n command will now drop a full cycle for each integer value from 1 to 9. The drop will occur at zero crossing only on a negative going edge. 5) The ON 1 command will now start at zero crossing on a positive going edge. 6) The ON 2 command will now start at a zero crossing on a negative going edge. 7) The ON 0 and OFF commands function is not altered.

6 1/2 cycle drop out programming the PIP9012A In order to drop 1/2, the jumper labeled W1 on the main board is left in the normal position. 8) The ZERO command causes the voltage change to occur at zero crossing on a random positive or negative going edge. 9) The PEAK command will effect a voltage change on the peak of a wave random positive or negative going edge. 10) The DROP n command will now drop a 1/2 cycle for each integer value from 1 to 9. The drop will start at a peak on a random negative or positive going edge. 11) The ON 1 command will now start at zero crossing on a random positive going or negative going edge. 12) The ON 2 command will now start at a peak on a random negative or positive going edge.

Closing Output Disconnect Relay String format: CLS Note: It is good practice to program the output to zero volts prior to sending the CLS command. This is especially important when output is above 130VAC or is system ground is noisy. Open Output Disconnect Relay String format: OPN Note: It is good practice to program the output to zero volts prior to sending the OPN command. This is especially important when output is above 130VAC or is system ground is noisy.
