The Dual Duct Controller (re 1) is an integral part of the APOGEE Automation System. The controller provides high performance Direct Digital Control (DDC) technology for room temperature control in Dual Duct Variable Air Volume (VAV) systems or air volume set points and room temperature control in Constant Volume (CV) systems. The DDC and related components provide a totally electronic control system. The DDC can operate independent, standalone or networked to perform comple HVAC control, monitoring and energy management functions without relying on a higher level processor. The totally electronic approach to temperature control provides the features listed below. Features PID control of HVAC systems to minimize offset and maintain tighter set point control, Unique control algorithms for specific applications. Reports air flow reports in CFM (l/s), HVAC diagnostics through communication with a Portable Operator's Terminal at a room sensor or any field panel, Set points and control parameters are assigned and changed using the Portable Operator's Terminal, Electrically Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory (EEPROM) used for storing set points and control parameters - no battery backup required, Return from power failure without operator intervention, Meets low duct static pressure requirements, Proven DDC architecture; No calibration required, thereby reducing maintenance costs, Separate cooling minimum position, and Separate air volume set points for occupied and unoccupied modes (CV Applications only). Applications Operating independently, or as a part of the DDC can control a variety of pressure independent dual duct terminal bo applications, including: Constant Volume Hot Duct and Cold Duct Damper Control with optional auiliary heat. Constant Volume Hot/Cold Duct and Volume Damper Control with optional auiliary heat. Variable Air Volume Hot Duct and Cold Duct and Damper Control with optional auiliary heat. Variable Air Volume Hot/Cold Duct and Volume Damper Control with optional auiliary heat. Variable Air Volume 2 Position Hot/Cold Duct Damper and Modulating Volume Damper Control. 2 Description The DDC consists of a differential pressure transducer and an electronic controller assembly. An Autozero Module is available for mounting on the controller for those applications where uninterrupted airflow is necessary. A Pneumatic Transducer provides control of pneumatic damper and valve actuators. Control algorithms are preprogrammed. The controller is ready to operate after selecting the application and assigning the unit's controller address with the Portable Operator's Terminal. If desired, the operator may use the Portable Operator's Terminal to adjust the air volume set points in CFM (l/s), room temperature set points and other parameters. The controller is designed for operation and modification without vendor assistance. Differential Pressure Transducer removable terminal blocks. The controller assembly is mounted on a plastic track that is mounted directly on the terminal bo. An optional enclosure protects the controller assembly. The controller interfaces with the following eternal devices: Averaging air velocity sensor provided by terminal bo manufacturers. Floating control valve and damper actuators. Temperature sensors (room, duct, immersion, and outside air). Portable Operator's Terminal. APOGEE Automation System. Digital input devices (dry contacts from motion sensors, alarm contacts). Digital output devices (2 position damper motor, electric heat). The averaging air velocity sensor (provided by the terminal bo manufacturer) sends an average air velocity measurement of the duct air velocity to the controller. The air velocity sensor connects to the differential pressure transducer (which is mounted in the DDC) and measures the average differential pressure. This value is converted to actual airflow in CFM (l/s) by the DDC. Dual Duct Controller This controller provides all wiring terminations: input/ output, system and local communication and power. The cable from the room sensor connects to the RJ-11 jack on the controller. 3 Optional Accessories Autozero Module The optional Autozero Module (re 2) is required when continuous operation at occupied flow is required for an area. The Autozero Module is connected to the air velocity inlet ports of the DDC and provides periodic re-calibration of the air velocity transducer without changing air volume being delivered to a room. Dual Duct Controller Communication gure 2. Autozero Module. Pneumatic Transducer The PTS Pneumatic Transducer (re 3) contains the transducers that provide the signal conversion from electronic to pneumatic. The module is piped to the pneumatic actuator and wired to the DDC. This transducer provides for accurate control of pneumatic actuators for precise temperature and air volume control. Communication with the DDC can be initiated from any APOGEE Automation System field panel on the system network (see re 5). The APOGEE Automation System network does not require additional hardware to connect Terminal Equipment Controllers. When Terminal Equipment Controllers are wired to a field panel, features such as energy management programs, alarm reporting, centralized control, modification of the system database, system-wide troubleshooting and the global commanding of devices are available to them. Portable Operator's Terminal The DOS-based laptop computer serving as the Portable Operator's Terminal can communicate with DDC or any field panel. The terminal connects to the controller, the room temperature sensor associated with the DDC or field panel. The terminal can be used to remotely adjust air volume settings or temperature set points, to troubleshoot and start-up the system. When connected to the RS-232 port of a field panel, the terminal provides system-wide communication.
