3 Power factor controller: VarPlus Logic Introduction VarPlus Logic has all that you need for an efficient operation of your automatic power factor correction equipment to maintain your power factor. It is an intelligent relay which measures, monitors and controls the reactive energy within your installation. Why are we focusing on this? This new controller comes at a vital time where power factor correction solutions are front of mind for facilties managers and end users as a result of the new kva tariffs are being implemented, notably in QLD and VIC. The controller contains some unique features which help customers make cost effective decisions to maximise their ROI. The VarPlus Logic replaces the Varlogic NR/NRC range, in both the LV and MV applications. Substitution table. 5 Frequently Asked Questions 1. I have an old PF controller. Can I just replace it with the new VarPlus Logic controller? Most controllers are compatible in terms of basic functionality. 2. Can I replace the old Varlogic NR or NRC range with the new VarPlus Logic? Yes. The VarPlus Logic is fully backward compatible. Please refer to the substitution table above. 3. Do I need an external power source (e.g. 24Vdc) for the controller? No. The controller is "self-powered" and can accept upto 415V input. 4. Do I still need a separate module for communications? No. Unlike the Varlogic NRC range, the VarPlus Logic VL range has modbus communication capabilities integrated. 5. I have a cap bank with 8 steps. Which controller do I use? The VarPlus Logic range is available as 6 and 12 steps controllers to switch up to 6 or 12 capacitor steps respectively. Hence in this case, use a 12 step controller - VPL12N. 6. Who commissions these units to put into service? A qualified electrical contractor can perform the commissioning by following the user manual. Similarly, 9 Field Services technicians have been trained in June 2016 to perform the commissioning tasks. Technical Support Level 2 has also been trained to provide support both internally and externally.
