These points will be audited on a completed vehicle installation. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT: This calls out the specific tools and equipment required for this process. REVISION MARK: This mark highlights a change in installation with respect to previous issue. INSTRUCTION/ INSTALLATION NOTES: After Safety mandated preparatory steps have been taken, the installation sequence is the suggested method for completing the accessory installation. When prying panels, use masking tape on all surfaces that a tool may come in contact with to prevent marring. After a wire tie is fully fastened, cleanly cut excess wire tie length with a pair of wire cutters. The wiring information is on an as is basis without any representation or warranty. It is the installer s responsibility to verify any circuit before interfacing with it using a digital multimeter. Manufacturer s service documents can be used for any vehicle disassembly that may be depicted differently from what the instruction states. Use Wiring Diagram on page 9 of document to clarify cable or component names. Page 1 of 13

2 A. Pre-Installation Precaution B1 1. Use Seat and Floor protectors to avoid damage to surfaces. Disconnecting the battery prior to any ground or harness removal/ tapping to prevent possible vehicle damage is recommended. The battery may be temporarily reconnected and disconnected throughout the installation process to perform various tasks. However prior to doing so all connectors and harnesses must be reassembled and reconnected. Once tasks are completed disconnect battery until installation is complete and DVD system is ready to be tested. After testing, the vehicles interior may be reassembled. If the vehicle is equipped with an Anti-theft radio, the code must be written down prior to disconnecting the battery cable. The code must be re-entered when the negative battery cable is re-installed. Disconnecting the battery may cause certain vehicle settings to be lost. Manufacturer s recommendations for the battery removal should be followed. B2 B3 B. Disassemble Vehicle Trim 1. Remove driver s side rocker panel cover by prying straight up with a NRT. (Nylon Removal Tool). ( B1) 2. Carefully pull door molding away from the kick B4 panel area by hand. ( B2) 3. By hand pull kick panel toward rear of vehicle to remove. ( B3) 4. Locate the fuse panel cover in the passenger side kick panel. By hand grab the front edge of the fuse cover and rotate toward rear of vehicle. ( B4) 5. Repeat steps 1-4 for passenger side. 3 6. Remove driver s side headrest by depressing B6 release buttons on each post coupler and pulling up on the headrest. ( B6) 7. Use a NRT to release J-clip at bottom edge of seat. ( B7) 8. Unzip both left and right zippers of seat back. B7 ( B8) 9. Repeat steps 6-8 for passenger side seat. C. Route Power Wiring REMINDER: Disconnect the battery prior to any ground or harness removal/ tapping to prevent possible vehicle damage. Once all wiring installation is complete the battery can be reconnected. Use an 8mm Socket/ ratchet to remove the ground bolt from the passenger s side kick panel. ( C1) 2. Attach the ground eyelet from the power C2 harness to the factory ground bolt and re-tighten. 4 3. Find and disconnect connector C2280A located C3 on the SJB (Smart Junction Block) in the passenger kick panel. ( C3) 4. Connect jumper harness from power cable in line with OE connector. ( C4) 5. Reconnect connect opposing end of jumper to C4 SJB. ( C5) 6. Route power harness from SJB just below glove box following the factory antenna toward cavity of center console and exiting on driver s side of C5 console. Secure harness to antenna using (2) 6 wire ties. Cut excess wire tie length with wire cutters. ( C6) D. Mount Control Box C6 1. Make all connections to the control box using color coded connections including antenna and power harness. ( D1) D1 Page 4 of 13

5 2. Wrap control box in foam tape. ( D2) D2 3. Fold carpet back and mount control box to the floor in front of vehicle as show in figure D3 using double sided tape. ( D3) E. Route Headrest Cables D3 1. Fold carpet back and run cables #3A (white and red) under carpet to driver s side rocker/ kick panel area. ( E1) 2. Pull all cable slack through to rocker panel area and fold carpet back over. ( E2) E1 3. Route wire puller under carpet from factory wire opening below seat to rocker panel area. 6 4. Attach cable # 3A to wire puller and pull through E4 to under side of seat. ( E4) 5. Tuck cables under carpet to follow the shown figure avoiding high traffic foot areas. ( E5) 6. Repeat steps 1-5 for passenger side with cables # 3B (blue and black). E5 F. Install Video Headrests 1. Insert cables #1A and # 2A (white and red) into the appropriate headrest post hole. ( F1) F1 2. Pull all slack through seat leaving headrest into highest longest position. ( F2) 3. Exit cables at bottom right hand side of seat following the factory harness. ( F3) F2 F3 Page 6 of 13

7 4. Connect cables #1A and #2A to cable #3A. F4 ( F4) 5. Snap security clamp around each connection point between cables #1A and #2A to cable #3A, add wire tie to strain relief, and apply foam tape. ( F5) F5 6. Secure cables under seat using (4) 6 wire ties to the factory wiring. Cut excess wire tie length using wire cutters. ( F6) 7. Cycle the seat to the front, rear, up, down, and F6 tilt to ensure cables do not interfere with any moving parts. 8. Secure cable in seat back to factory wiring with (1) 6 wire tie. 8 G. Complete Installation 1. Make sure vehicles battery is connected to manufacturer s specifications. 2. Install (2) AAA batteries in each remote and headphone set. 3. Check all previously disconnected factory connectors and accessories to ensure they are all connected and operational. 4. After testing with steps on following pages, carefully re-assemble vehicle by reversing steps in section B. 5. Store remotes, owner s manual and headphones in center console, glove box, or seat back pockets. Page 8 of 13

9 Functional Verification Check: Accessory Function checks: Turn vehicle ignition to ON, depress power button on each headrest monitor. Insert DVD into monitor, press enter. Listen with wireless headphones (be sure to set to channel A to listen to monitor A and channel B to listen to monitor B ). Depress eject button. Select Sound Around button on remote to turn on the FM transmitter. Turn on vehicle radio and set station to station selected on FM transmitter. Look For: Monitor should power on, start up screen should appear onscreen. DVD should begin playing Audio should be heard through vehicle headphones. Disc should eject. Audio from monitor A should be heard through vehicle speakers. Schematic Diagram Page 9 of 13

10 Cable Routing and Verifications Prior to performing any test to verify voltage or signal flow it is recommended that all cables routed during the installation process are re-observed for proper routing. Verify that cables are not tightly stressed. Move seat fully forward and fully rearward as well as up and down while observing that cables do not stretch or bind. Check for ample clearance near any moving components in vehicle such as seat tracks, seat motorization, hinge points and parking brake lever etc. Look at condition of cables. Verify that the following does not exist; pinched, cut, chaffed, crushed, melted, shorted or stretched apart. Check condition of terminal points. Verify that all points of termination are of good condition. Look for pins that are bent over, pulled out, crushed or missing. Schematic Reference: Video System Schematics Many conditions that affect video system operation may be corrected without removing the DVD Headrest Assembly or the DVD Control Box Assembly. Make sure to understand all features of system operation before beginning the diagnosis of the system. Verify the condition and follow the diagnostic procedures in order to isolate and correct the condition. Be sure the vehicle battery is fully charged before beginning video entertainment system diagnosis Video or Audio Distortion The manufacturing process for producing DVD s does not have the same quality control processes in place that compact disk manufacturing does. If there are video or audio quality problems with an individual DVD, try playing that disk in another DVD player. If the quality is poor for both players, return the disk to the place of purchase and request an exchange. If the quality problem is only seen in one of the players, examine the disk for scratches, dirt, or smudges and attempt to clean the disk with one of the disk cleaning systems that are commercially available. Video or audio distortion during auxiliary playback can often be attributed to the DC to AC inverter that is used to power the auxiliary device. The power inverters tend to introduce noisy signals into the vehicle electrical system. Page 10 of 13

If no power or ground change location. If there is accessory power and ground change Control Box. Remove monitor to verify power and ground on either the Red connector (Monitor A (driver side) or Monitor B (passenger side). If power and ground are located replace faulty monitor (A or B). Press the power button on the appropriate monitor. Press Play, if no disc in unit screen will read NO DISC. LED Illuminated). No DVD in drive. Cable 3A (if not receiving power to Monitor A Driver Side) not connected to Control Box or Cable 3B (if not receiving power to Monitor B Passenger Side) not connected to Control Box. 4. Remove monitor that is not receiving video. Connections at Monitor unplugged. Hit the source button until the appropriate source is showing (will appear in the corner of the display). Verify connections. Verify connections. Remove monitor that is inoperable, verify connections; if no video is still displayed replace the faulty monitor (A or B) Cannot hear audio through speaker system (FM Transmitter Inoperative) Video Entertainment System Wireless Headphone Inoperative FM Transmitter off. FM Transmitter is on the wrong frequency. Volume turned down on Headphone. Incorrect channel selected on Headphone. Dead Batteries. Turn on the FM Transmitter using the Remote Control. Press the DVD button (A) on the Remote Control to control Monitor A-Driver Side Headrest. Press the Sound Around On/ Off button. CH On should appear on Monitor A display. Press the Sound Around Select button on the Remote Control to select a Frequency (88.3 MHz, 88.7 MHz, 89.5 MHz, 89.9 MHz, or 90.3 MHz). The frequency should appear on Monitor A display in the upper right hand corner. Tune the vehicles radio to the selected frequency. If there is still no FM transmission replace the Control Box. Adjust the volume control on the Headphone. Select the appropriate channel on the Headphone (Monitor A for Driver side select channel A, Monitor B for Passenger side select channel B).
