1 PC 3x Software Installation and Operation (TN050312) PC 3x Hardware Description The PC 3x is a compact Peltier cooled inlet system which incorporates the ESI cyclonic spray chamber similar to the existing line of PC 3. The PC 3x has the additional features of software adjustable set temperature and monitoring. Figure 1: PC 3x Unit. Installation of PC 3x software This section provides installation instructions for the PC 3x software. Note: PC 3x is preconfigured to +2 Celsius. Software is only required for temperature programming and monitoring via Bluetooth or USB connection.

2 System Requirements: Windows operating system; Windows 2000 SP4, Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7. USB or connection. Software Installation: 1) Log on to the computer with an account that has Administrator privileges. 2) Install the PC 3x software using the CD provided (or download from The Installer will automatically start and provide instructions during the installation. If the installation does not begin automatically, using Windows Explorer, navigate to the CD and double-click on the file Setup.exe to begin installation. Be aware that during the start of the install, periods of apparent inactivity may occur while the installer determines the computer's configuration. Please wait while this process takes place. 3) Connect 12 VDC power supply to PC 3x. See Figure 2. Figure 2: Power Switch, Cable Connection and Bluetooth Control switch. 4) Establish communication to PC 3x by first choosing Bluetooth or USB communication method: a. If Bluetooth communication is desired: i. Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on the hardware by placing the control selection switch in the Up position. See Figure 2. ii. Power PC 3x ON by using the power button. See Figure 2. iii. If computer does not have integrated Bluetooth, install the USB-Bluetooth adapter provided and follow on-screen instructions making sure that the system has properly finished installation before next step. iv. Verify that Bluetooth is enabled on the computer and Right-Click on the Bluetooth icon System Tray and Select Add a device. in Figure 3: Select Bluetooth icon to add device. v. Select device to be added. The device name will likely be prefixed PC3x- and click Next.

Note: Please make certain that software has been installed prior to this step since the drivers are required. 5) Next, click on PC 3x icon to start.

See Figure 2. ii. Connect control cable to PC3x. iii. Connect to available USB port on computer. Note: Please make certain that software has been installed prior to this step since the drivers are required. 5) Next, click on PC 3x icon to start. 6) Next choose Tools>>Settings, Click on Auto-detect. See Figure 8. 7) Choose desired COM port with desired PC 3x device. Figure 8: Settings window. Note: it is recommended to have only 1 PC 3x connected to computer at a time. 8) Open Port. At this time the window should now display temperature recordings. 9) Turn Power ON/OFF using the button. Default position is ON. 10) Close Settings window.

When a target temperature is set, the PC 3x will operate to that value regardless if it is connected or controlled by the computer. 1) Desired temperature is set by using the Set Temperature field and Set button. 2) To verify that the set temperature has been saved to the device, confirm that the correct target value is shown in Status. View History: When a target temperature is set, the PC3x will operate to that value regardless if it is connected or controlled by the computer. Using View>>History menu, a display of previously collected readings will be shown. The extent of this history begins at the time that the software was last started.

6 PC 3x Operational Settings LED Indicator The LED indicator has 5 different settings: Color Indicator Blue: The device is in cooling mode Red: The device is in heating mode Green: The device is in standby mode Cooling Mode: The device is actively cooling the spray chamber. Heating Mode: The device is actively heating the spray chamber Standby Mode: The device is powered on, but the Peltier and Fan has been turned off. The device will equilibrate to room temperature. Solid Red or Solid Blue: The device has reached its use set temperature Blinking Blue: The device has not reached its user set temperature while in Cooling Mode Blinking Red: The device has not reached its user set temperature while in Heating Mode Solid Green: The device is in standby mode. Fast Blinking White: The device has registered a fault. Please contact support@icpms.com Control Methods Cooling: The device will always cool. If the set temperature is warmer than the ambient room temperature, the device will act as though it is in standby mode. Heating: The device will always heat. If the set temperature is cooler than the ambient room temperature, the device will act as though it is in standby mode. Auto: The PC3x will determine if it needs to heat or cool the chamber based on the user defined input.

7 Troubleshooting My PC 3x won t go to the temperature I want it to, what can I do? Ensure that the PC 3x is powered ON in the software. If you are not connected to a computer, power-cycle the unit. If the device is in Auto mode, manually select heating or cooling mode based on the set temperature and the ambient temperature. If you don t know the ambient temperature, first try cooling mode, and if that doesn t work, change the mode to heating. I can t connect my PC 3x to the computer via USB. Close down the software; unplug the USB from the computer and plug it back in. Ensure that the Bluetooth is switched off, this can cause communication conflicts. Ensure that the device is powered on. Reopen the software and try to connect to it. If this fails, the cable is most likely defective. I can t connect my PC 3x to the computer via Bluetooth. Ensure that the computer has Bluetooth and is paired with the PC3x. If not, see section Installation of PC 3x software, part 4. Close down the software, and power down the device. Power up the device and power on the Bluetooth switch. Open up the software and run Tools>>Settings, Click on Auto-detect
