2 Introduction Thank you for purchasing a Wahl Surface Plate Black Body Calibration Source. We appreciate your business. Wahl Black Body Calibration Sources are used to quickly and accurately calibrate and verify non- contact IR temperature instruments such as infrared thermometers, optical pyrometers, area- measuring thermometers, and thermal imaging cameras. Wahl Black Body Calibration Sources feature: v An intelligent, high precision processor temperature controller v A radiating surface with special high- emissivity coating v Most models are available in either 110V AC input (- 1 Models) or 220V AC input (- 2 models), however, some higher wattage units are only available in 220V AC input. v All controllers operate in C. Caution: v Do NOT touch the Black Body radiating surface v Do NOT attempt to change the factory default settings v This product must be properly grounded to prevent electric shock accidents or equipment damage due to improper grounding. v For accurate results, the temperature of the target area must fully stabilize before beginning calibration. 5 Operating Steps - CBB13EC 1. Connect the power cable to the power receptacle on the back of the Black Body. Plug the other end into the external power source equipped with a grounded outlet of 110 V AC or 220V AC. Model CBB13EC is a dual voltage model. 2. Press the RED power switch, a red indicator light and the temperature controller will turn on. Set the temperature to 40 C to begin. 3. To set the temperature, press and release the SEL button. The Set Value (SV) indicator will turn on. (See Figure 2). Press the " ", and " " buttons to adjust the setting. When set to the desired Set Value (SV), press and release the SV button and the SV indicator will turn off and the unit will display the Process Value (PV). (See Table 1 for Temperature Controller Panel Function definitions). 4. Alternately, the unit will automatically exit the Set Value (SV) mode after 30 seconds from the last switch depression. 5. When measuring is complete, turn off RED power switch. 5

Plug the other end into the external power source equipped with a grounded outlet of 110V or 220V/10A, depending on model. 2. Press the RED power switch, a red indicator light and the temperature controller will turn on. Press the GREEN starting switch to start the heating or cooling cycle after pressing the red power switch. 3. On the temperature controller panel (see Figures 3 and 4) the " ", and " " buttons adjust the Set Value (SV). Set the desired temperature. Wait until the Process Value (PV) and the SV Value are stable and consistent before taking measurements. Keep PV value and SV value stable and consistent, for the unit to work normally. (See Table 1 for Temperature Controller Panel Function definitions). 4. Do Not Turn Off the unit if the PV or SV value is higher than 80 C. Set the SV value to 0.0 until the temperature is lower than 80 C, before shutting down. 5. When measuring is complete, turn off RED power switch. 7

9 Operating Steps - CBB14KC 1. Connect the power cable to the power receptacle on the back of the Black Body. Plug the other end into the external power source equipped with a grounded outlet of 110V or 220V/10A, depending on model. 2. Press the RED power switch, a red indicator light and the temperature controller will turn on. Press the GREEN starting switch to start the heating or cooling cycle after pressing the red power switch. 3. On the temperature controller panel (see Figures 5 and 6) the " ", and " " buttons adjust the Set Value (SV). Set the desired temperature. Wait until the Process Value (PV) and the SV Value are stable and consistent before taking measurements. Keep PV value and SV value stable and consistent, for the unit to work normally. (See Table 1 for Temperature Controller Panel Function definitions). 4. Do Not Turn Off the unit if the PV or SV value is higher than 80 C. Set the SV value to 0.0 until the temperature is lower than 80 C, before shutting down. 5. When measuring is complete, press the GREEN switch first, followed by the RED switch. Additional Instructions for Model CBB14KC: 6. The Black Body is equipped with an optional Anti- Frost shield for low temperature operation to be installed when not making measurements. This shield will help to prevent frost and moisture buildup on the cooled surface when not in use. 7. The Black Body is also equipped with a Nitrogen purge system to prevent frost and moisture when using for long periods of time at temperatures below room ambient. Connect a regulated supply of Nitrogen (10 psi max, 1-2 psi typical) to the port on the rear with the provided tubing. To remove the tubing, press in on the blue ring and pull the tubing out. 9

(See Table 1 for Temperature Controller Panel Function definitions). 4. Do Not Turn Off the unit if the PV or SV value is higher than 80 C. 16 Wahl Black Body CBB13EC CBB14AC/KC CBB15GC User Manual Maintenance v DO NOT touch the Black Body radiating surface! v Do not use the unit in a greasy or chemical environment. v In order to ensure temperature measurement accuracy, please use Black Body in a temperature stable environment. The ideal ambient temperature of the Black Body is 0 to 40 C (32 to 104 F). v To install or move the Black Body, allow the unit to cool down, and turn off the power to prevent electric shock, burns or other accidents. v Remove the fan dust cover for regular cleaning. v A neutral detergent is recommended to clean the Black Body enclosure. A soft brush is recommended to clean dust over the Black Body radiating surface. v DO NOT disassemble the components under any circumstances! Please contact Palmer Wahl.
