1. General information 1. General information 1.1 Documentation This documentation describes the fieldbus connection of the CMMS motor controller in a PROFIBUS-DP network. It describes the PROFIBUS configuration and outlines the FHPP application protocol. A detailed description of the FHPP can be found in the FHPP description. You will find additional information in the following manuals for CMMS-ST: - Product manual for "P-BE-CMMS-ST-HW-...": description of the technical data and device function as well as information on the installation and operation of the CMMS ST stepper motor controller. - FHPP manual "P.BE-CMM-FHPP-SW- ": description of the Festo Handling and Positioning Profile, as implemented. It is directed at people who are already familiar with the motor controller series and the FHPP data profile. The documentation contains safety instructions which must be observed. 1.2 Festo Handling and Positioning Profile (FHPP) Festo has developed an optimised data profile, the "Festo Handling and Positioning Profile", tailored to the target applications for handling and positioning tasks. The FHPP enables uniform control and programming for the various fieldbus systems and controllers from Festo. In addition it provides a largely uniform definition of the following for the user: The operating modes The I/O data structure The parameter objects The sequence control Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 7

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls 2.4 Safety instructions General safety information The electrical protection class of the motor controller is IP20. Use only accessories and replacement parts permitted by the manufacturer. In accordance with EN standards and VDE regulations, the motor controllers must be connected in such a way that they can be disconnected from the mains network with suitable isolation means (e.g. main switch, fuse, circuit breaker). The motor controller can be protected with an AC/DC-sensitive RCD circuit breaker (RCD = Residual Current protective Device) of 300 ma. For switching the control contacts, gold contacts or contacts with high contact pressure should be used. As a precaution, fault-elimination measures for switching systems must be taken, such as wiring fuses and relays with RC filters or diodes. Observe the safety regulations and stipulations of the country in which the device is used. The environmental conditions specified in the product documentation must be complied with. Safety-critical applications are not permitted unless expressly approved by the manufacturer. 12 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls The instructions for an EMC-suitable installation must be followed as specified in the product manual of the CMMS-ST-C8-7 family. Compliance with the limit values required by national regulations is the responsibility of the manufacturer of the system or machine. The technical data, connection and installation requirements for the motor controller must be followed as specified in this product manual and must absolutely be complied with. DANGER! The general construction and safety regulations for work on high-voltage power installations (e.g. DIN, VDE, EN, IEC or other national and international regulations) must be observed. Failure to do so can result in death, bodily injury or significant property damage. The following precautionary measures also apply without claim to completeness: - VDE 0100 Stipulation for construction of power installations of up to 1000 volts - EN Electrical equipment for machines - EN Equipping high-voltage systems with electronic operating media Safety instructions for installation and maintenance For installation and maintenance of the system, the relevant DIN, VDE, EN and IEC regulations as well as all governmental and local safety and accident protection regulations apply. The system builder or operator must ensure compliance with these regulations: Operation, maintenance and/or repair of the motor controller may only be performed by personnel trained and qualified for working on and with electrical devices. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 13

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls Avoidance of accidents, bodily injury and/or property damage: The standard-delivery motor brake or an external motor brake controlled by the drive control device is not adequate by itself for personal protection! Additionally secure vertical axes against falling or dropping after the motor is switched off, such as by: - mechanical locking of the vertical axis, - external brake/catch/clamping device or - adequate counterbalancing of the axis. During operation and up to about one minute after the motor controller is switched off, the external or internal braking resistance can create dangerous intermediate circuit voltage, which can cause death or severe bodily injury on contact. Before performing maintenance work, make sure that the power supply is switched off, interlocked and the intermediate circuit discharged. Switch off power to the electrical equipment via the main switch and secure it against being switched back on. Wait until the intermediate circuit is discharged for: - maintenance work and repair - cleaning - long interruptions in operation. Care must be taken during mounting. During both mounting and later operation of the drive, make sure that no shavings, metal dust or mounting parts (screws, nuts, sections of pipe) fall into the motor controller. Also make sure that the external power supply of the regulator (24 V) is switched off. Power to the intermediate circuit or the mains power must always be switched off before switching off the 24 V power supply to the regulator. 14 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls Perform work in the machine area only with the AC or DC power supply switched off and locked out. Switched-off final stages or controller enable are not appropriate lockouts. In case of malfunction, this can result in unintended running of the drive. Perform commissioning with the motor running at idle to avoid mechanical damage, such as through incorrect direction of rotation. Electronic devices are not fail-safe. The user is responsible for returning the system to a safe condition if the electrical device fails. DANGER! The servo drive regulator and, in particular, the brake resistance, external or internal, can take on high temperatures, which can cause severe bodily burns on contact Protection against contact with electrical parts This section refers only to devices and drive components with voltages above 50 volts. Parts with voltages above 50 volts can be hazardous to people and result in electric shock if touched. When electrical devices are operated, certain parts of these devices are by necessity under hazardous voltage. Potentially fatal voltage! High electrical voltage! Danger of death or severe bodily injury from electric shock! For operation of the system, the relevant DIN, VDE, EN and IEC regulations as well as all governmental and local safety and accident protection regulations apply. The system builder or operator must ensure compliance with these regulations: Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 15

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls Before switching on devices, attach the covers and protective equipment provided for protection against contact. For installed devices, ensure protection against direct touching of electrical parts by means of an outer casing, such as a control cabinet, for example. The VGB4 regulations must be followed. Always firmly connect the earth conductor of the electrical equipment and devices to the mains power supply. Due to the integrated mains filter, leakage current is greater than 3.5 ma. Ensure the minimum copper diameter for the protective conductor along its entire length, in accordance with standard EN Prior to commissioning, even for brief measurement and testing purposes, always connect the protective conductor to all electrical devices in accordance with the connection diagram, or connect it to the earthing conductor. Otherwise, high voltages may occur on the housing, which can cause electric shock. Do not touch the components' electrical connection points in the switched-on state. Before accessing electrical parts with voltages greater than 50 volts, separate the device from the mains network or the voltage source. Secure to prevent switching back on. During installation, pay attention to the level of intermediate circuit voltage especially with regard to insulation and protective measures. Ensure proper earthing, conductor dimensioning and appropriate protection against short circuiting. 16 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls The device has a rapid intermediate circuit discharge switch in accordance with EN section ut the rapid discharge can be ineffective in certain device constellations, especially when several motor controllers are connected in parallel in the intermediate circuit or a brake resistance is not connected. The motor controller can then remain under dangerous voltage for up to one minute after switch-off (condensor residual charge) Protection against electrical shocks through low-voltage protection (PELV) All connections and terminals with voltages from 5 to 50 volts on the motor controller are of the low-voltage protection type, which are designed to be shock-proof in accordance with the following standards: - International: IEC European countries in the EU: EN 50178/1998, section DANGER! High electrical voltage due to incorrect connection! Danger of death or injury from electric shock! Only devices, electrical components and lines with low-voltage protection (PELV = Protective Extra Low Voltage) can be connected to any connections and terminals with voltages from 0 to 50 volts. Connect only voltages and circuits with safe separation from dangerous voltages. Safe separation is achieved through isolating transformers, secure optocouplers or mains-free battery operation Protection against hazardous movements Hazardous movements can be caused by faulty triggering of connected motors. The causes can be many and varied: - Dirty or defective wiring or cabling - Errors in the operation of components - Faults in the sensors and signal transmitters - Faulty components or components which are not EMC-suitable - Faults in the software in the higher-level control system These malfunctions can occur immediately after switch-on or after an indefinite time in operation. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 17

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls Monitoring in the drive components excludes malfunctions in the connected drives as much as possible. However this alone cannot be relied on for the protection of persons and especially the prevention of bodily injury and/or property damage. Until the installed monitoring functions take effect, defective drive movements are always possible, the severity of which will depend on the type of control and the operating state. DANGER! Hazardous movements! Danger of death, severe bodily injury or property damage! For the above reasons, personal protection must be ensured through monitoring or higherlevel system measures. These are planned according to the specific circumstances of the system by the system builder based on a hazard and error analysis. The safety regulations applicable for the system are included in this planning. Switching off or bypassing safety equipment or failure to activate safety equipment may result in unpredictable movements of the machine or other malfunctions Protection against contact with hot parts DANGER! Surfaces on the device housing may become hot. Danger of injury! Danger of burns! Danger of burns! Do not touch housing surfaces in the vicinity of major heat sources. Before accessing any devices, let them cool off for 10 minutes after being switched off. If hot parts of the equipment are touched, such as device housings encasing heat sinks and resistors, this can result in burns Protection when handling and installing If certain parts and components are handled and installed in an improper way, this can, under unfavourable conditions, lead to injuries. DANGER! Danger of injury from improper handling! Bodily injury from crushing, shearing, cutting or impact. 18 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

2. Safety instructions for electrical drives and controls The following general safety information applies here: Observe the general set-up and safety regulations for handling and installation. Use appropriate installation and transport equipment. Take appropriate precautions to prevent jamming and crushing. Use only appropriate tools. If required, use special tools. Use lifting devices and tools properly. If required, use appropriate protective equipment (such as safety goggles, safety shoes, protective gloves). Do not stand under suspended loads. Immediately clean up leaked fluids on the floor due to slipping hazards. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 19

3. Installation and connection 3. Installation and connection For the CMMS family of devices, the PROFIBUS interface is implemented by means of an optional interface module, CAMC-PB. The PROFIBUS bus terminal is designed as a 9-pin DSUB socket on the CAMC-PB, in accordance with EN Connection and display components The following elements are positioned on the front panel of the CAMC-PB: - A green LED for the bus ready signal - A 9-pin D-SUB socket - Two DIP switches for activating the terminating resistors 1 Two DIP switches 2 9-pin D-SUB socket 3 LED for the bus ready signal Fig. 3.1: Connection and display components on the PROFIBUS-DP interface 20 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

3. Installation and connection 3.2 Mounting Caution Before mounting an auxiliary module, isolate the motor controller from all current-carrying wires. Wait at least one minute for complete discharge of the capacitors in the motor controller after switching off the operating voltage. Caution Be sure to take precautions to protect against ESD when handling the auxiliary module. Using a suitable screwdriver, unscrew and remove the front panel covering the module slot on the motor controller. Now insert the auxiliary module into the open slot in such a way that the printed circuit board runs into the guides on the sides of the module slot. Push the module in as far as it goes. Then screw on the front panel of the auxiliary module onto the motor controller housing with the Phillips screw. Make sure that the front panel forms a flush seal with the front side so that it has conductive contact to the housing. 3.3 Installation For CMMS motor controllers, the PROFIBUS interface has been implemented in the form of an optional auxiliary module. PROFIBUS cabling Due to the very high possible baud rates, we recommend using only the standardised cables and plug connectors. These are equipped with some additional diagnosis functions, which make it easier to analyse the fieldbus hardware quickly in the event of a malfunction. When setting up the PROFIBUS network, always comply with the advice given in the standard literature as well as the following information and remarks in order to obtain a stable, malfunction-free system. If cabling is not done properly, malfunctions can occur on the PROFIBUS bus during operation. These can cause the motor controller to go into fault shutdown for safety reasons. 23 3. Installation and connection Tab. 3.1: Connector pin allocation: PROFIBUS-DP interface Termination and bus terminating resistors Each bus segment in a PROFIBUS network is equipped with terminating resistors to minimise line reflections and set a defined open-circuit potential for the line. The bus is terminated at the start and end of each bus segments. Faulty or incorrect bus termination is a frequent cause of malfunctions. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 23

3. Installation and connection In most commercially available PROFIBUS cable connectors, the terminating resistors are already built in. For bus coupling using connectors without integrated terminating resistors, the PROFIBUS-DP interface has its own terminating resistors built-in. These can be activated using the two DIP switches on the module (both switches to ON). To de-activate the terminating resistors, both switches must be set to OFF. To ensure safe network operation, only one type of bus termination may be used at any one time, either internal (via DIL switches) or external. The external circuitry can also be set up discretely (see Fig. 3.3). The 5V supply voltage required for the externally connected terminating resistors is provided on the PROFIBUS plug on the PROFIBUS-DP interface (see pin allocation in Tab. 3.1). 25 4. Configuring the PROFIBUS interface 4. Configuring the PROFIBUS interface Several steps are required to acheive a functional PROFIBUS interface. Some of these settings should or must be carried out before activating PROFIBUS communication. This section provides an overview of the steps involved. The exact procedure is described in more detail in the following sections. When planning the PROFIBUS interface, the user must first decide on these matters. Only then should the parameters for the fieldbus interface be defined, on both sides. We recommend defining the slave parameters first. The master is configured afterwards. If the parameters are correctly defined, the application is ready immediately without communication faults. Since some parameters only become active after saving and resetting, we recommend the following procedure: 1. Setting the DIP switches. 2. Defining parameters and commissioning with the FCT. Especially setting of the physical units of measurement. 3. Configuring the PROFIBUS master. Defining the physical units of the process data transmitted via the fieldbus is necessary for correct functioning. These can be set using the FCT. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 25

4. Configuring the PROFIBUS interface 4.1 Setting the DIP switches on the CMMS The inserted PROFIBUS module is automatically detected after switching on the motor controller. For activation, the CAN interface must be de-activated using DIP switch 11 on the CMMS-ST motor controller. A unique bus address must be allocated to each device (each PROFIBUS module) in the network. The bus address is set using the DIP switches on the CMMS-ST motor controller. 1 DIP switches (bus address) 2 DIP switch 11 3 DIP switches for terminating resistors (these terminating resistors can be activated using the two DIP switches) 4 Slot with PROFIBUS card Fig. 4.1: Setting the DIP switches on the CMMS Valid bus addresses are Addresses cannot be assigned by the master because the service Set_Slave_Address is not supported. Each address is assigned once only. 26 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH

4. Configuring the PROFIBUS interface DIP switch Meaning 1 Bus address. 2 See example Bootloader (if switch is set to ON, the system will look for new firmware on the SD card) 9 Reserved (auto baudrate, no setting required for PROFIBUS) Activation of CAN interface; must be set to OFF for PROFIBUS card operation 12 Terminating resistor for the CAN interface Tab. 4.1: Allocation of the DIP switches DIP switch ON/OFF Meaning 1 ON DIP switch 1 is the lowest-order bit = 91 2 ON 3 OFF 4 ON 5 ON 6 OFF 7 ON Tab. 4.2: Bus address example 4.2 PROFIBUS communication Once the bus address has been set, PROFIBUS communication can be activated. Keep in mind that the parameters mentioned above can only be changed if the protocol is deactivated. All parameters only take effect after PROFIBUS communication has been de-activated and then re-activated. Note that PROFIBUS communication can only be activated after the parameter set has been saved and a reset has been carried out. Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH 27

4. Configuring the PROFIBUS interface 4.3 PROFIBUS configuration PROFIBUS configuration Cyclic I/O update Acyclic data PROFIBUS 2 modules to choose from: Module 1: Name = "FHPP Standard" Identifier = 0xB7 (8 bytes I/O consistent) Module 2: Name = "FHPP Standard + FPC" Identifier = 0xB7, 0xB7 (2 x 8 bytes I/O consistent) - Tab. 4.3: PROFIBUS configuration 4.4 PROFIBUS station configuration This section gives an overview of the steps required for defining parameters and configuration on the slave side. Since some parameters only become active after saving and resetting, we recommend first carrying out commissioning with the FCT without connecting to the PROFIBUS. For instructions on commissioning with the Festo Configuration Tool, see the Help for the device-specific FCT PlugIn. Important process data for position, speed and acceleration are transmitted in physical units. These should be defined in the parameters before communication is started, since they define how the data is interpreted in the motor controller. 4.5 PROFIBUS master configuration This section gives an overview of the steps required for defining parameters and configuration on the master side. We recommend the following procedure: 1. Installing the GSD file 2. Specifying the slave address 3. Configuring the input and output data The motor controller must be linked to the PROFIBUS on the master side. To do so, the GSD file must first be installed if this has not already been done. Then the address and input and output data for the slave must be configured. For quick and easy commissioning, the abilities of the motor controller's PROFIBUS interface have been described in a GSD file. By using a suitable configuration tool, you can configure a device within a network. The GSD file can be found on the CD ROM accompanying the product. The latest version can be downloaded from our homepage ( Automation Download Area Download Software Product group "Electrical drives"). 28 Festo P.BE-CMMS-FHPP-PB-SW-EN en 0708NH
