Description Signet 750 ph/orp Sensor Electronics provide twowire to 0mA loop output for ph and ORP measurements, without the expense of local display and other luxuries available in fullfeatured transmitters. Preamplifi cation is builtin, reducing system costs while ensuring absolute signal integrity up to 0.8m/,000 feet. These sophisticated fi eldmount devices also provide the digital (S L : Signet Sensor Serial Link) output, the latest development in leadingedge technology from Signet. The 750 Sensor Electronics selfconfi gure for ph or ORP operation via automatic recognition of electrode type, and the DryLoc electrode connector quickly forms a robust assembly for submersible and inline installations. NEMA X Junction Boxes are integral parts of the inline version and are available as accessories for the submersible version. 2 . Inline Dimensions The 750 inline sensor (without EasyCal) is designed for applications where electrode calibration is facilitated by remote equipment. The 750 InLine sensor includes EasyCal. A Signet installation fi tting ( / in. to in.) or a Signet pipe adapter is required to secure the electrode in the pipe. The Signet Measurement and Instrumentation catalog offers a complete selection of fi ttings. The 750 and 750 submersible sensor electronics are recommended for inline applications using the 76 series differential electrodes and the 77 series Threaded DryLoc electrodes. 76 and 77 series electrodes thread directly into standard in. or / in. 3 . 750 Inline ph Sensor Assembly Note: This procedure applies to systems using standard electrodes. If the 79 ph/orp WetTap is used, refer to the 79 manual for instructions.. Insert electrode into Signet installation fi tting. Seat the electrode tabs into the alignment notches in the fi tting.. Thread the inline retaining cap onto fi tting to secure the electrode into place. Handtighten the cap. DO NOT use any tools to avoid damaging the threads. Retaining cap Note: Keep the electrical interconnection between electrode and sensor electronics dry and clean at all times.. Unlock the ring on base of 750 (The ring is unlocked when the lines on the ring and body of the 750 are not aligned.) Locking Ring Unlocked The molded alignment marks are enhanced for clarity.. Place 750 onto top of electrode and turn until the assembly drops into position. The molded alignment marks are enhanced for clarity. 5. Turn locking ring / turn to secure the 750 assembly. (The ring is locked when the line on the ring and the line on the body of the 750 are aligned.) Locked InLine Sensor and Electrode Removal To remove electronics assembly only: Turn locking ring / turn; lift assembly straight up. To remove electrode from the pipe: Remove electronics assembly, then unthread retaining cap; pull electrode straight up. To remove the complete 750 system: Hold locking ring in place. Wear appropriate protective clothing when working with chemicals in pressurized pipe.

4 5. 750, Submersible Sensor Assembly and Installation. Insert electrode into base of the 750 or 750 and turn until keyed contacts are seated.. Thread retaining cap over electrode and handtighten onto Attach / in. watertight pipe to the top of the 750. Secure the threaded connection to prevent any leakage. For additional defense against possible accumulation of condensation at the back seal area of the sensor, fi ll the lower inches (7500 mm) of conduit or extension pipe with a fl exible sealant such as silicone. 750: / in. 5 6. Digital (S L) wiring When the 750 is powered with 5 VDC, the digital (S L) serial data output is automatically selected. S L data is used exclusively by Signet instruments. Remove approximately 0 mm (0. in.) of insulation and tin each conductor before inserting into connectors. This confi guration does not provide any calibration capability within the 750 system. Periodic calibration must be performed at the external equipment. When the 750 includes a terminal block, connect the 750 terminals to the Loop device as shown. 6 8. Calibration All 750 ph/orp Sensor Electronics are factorycalibrated for maximum outofthebox accuracy. Periodic calibration is required to compensate for electrode aging. The optional EasyCal feature allows calibration to be performed local to the sensor. In fact, for periodic calibration it is best for the electrode/sensor assembly to remain intact to minimize the possibility of moisture or other contamination entering the electrical interconnection area. The electrode/sensor connection must remain dry and clean at all times.. Reset the 750 ph/orp Sensor to factory calibration: With no electrode connected to the Sensor, press and hold SW until the LED (D) comes on steady then goes off again (approx. 0 seconds). When the LED goes off, release SW; reset is complete.. Connect an electrode to the 750 ph/orp Sensor.. If S L output is being used, place SW in the Cal position. If 0 ma output is being used, SW position is of no consequence.. Place the electrode/sensor assembly into a calibration solution as follows: (If the electrode is healthy, then the 750 will automatically recognize the solution. The order in which the solutions are used during the calibration procedure is of no consequence.) For ph calibration, use any two of these international standards: ph.0, 7.0 or 0.0 buffer solutions. (Signet part number contains one capsule of each value) To produce standards for ORP calibration, mix the chemical Quinhydrone into ph 7.0 and.0 buffers to saturation (/8g per 50ml). Regardless of the size of the container used for calibration, one inch of solution is adequate to completely submerge the tip of the electrode. Allow at least 0 seconds for the electrode response to stabilize before calibration. 5. Press and hold SW for approximately 8 to 0 seconds. During this time, the LED (D) will come on steady then go back off. Release SW (If the LED blinks several times rapidly, the calibration was not successful. See the troubleshooting section.) 6. Remove the electrode/sensor assembly from the fi rst calibration solution, rinse the electrode with clean water, and place it in a second solution. Allow at least 0 seconds for the electrode response to stabilize before calibration. 7. Press and hold SW for approximately 8 to 0 seconds. During this time, the LED will come on steady then go back off. Release SW. (If the LED blinks several times rapidly, the calibration was not successful. See the troubleshooting section.) 8. Troubleshooting LED and Output Condition Current Out: LED off, current output is.6 ma S L: Temp out is During EasyCal, the LED blinks rapidly for seconds and the current output is frozen at a random fixed value. After completing calibration procedure, the output values are inaccurate. Possible Causes No electrode installed Bad/dirty contacts between electrode and 750 The buffer solution is outside of the accepted tolerance for the 750 The electrode is depleted (>. ph or 65 mv offset) Insuffi cient time allowed for electrode stabilization during calibration. Suggested Solutions Install electrode Check interconnection between electrode and 750, clean contacts ph system: Use fresh ph, 7 ph, or 0 ph buffer and restart the calibration. ORP system: Use fresh ph and 7 ph buffer solution saturated with quinhydrone. Replace the electrode. Recalibrate, verify that test solutions are at room temperature and wait at least 0 seconds after placing electrode in solution before pressing S EasyCal button.
