2 WELCOME AESIN

3 AESIN isa dedicated UK initiative focused on the accelerated and advanced delivery of Electronic Systems (ES) into vehicles and infrastructure operated by the UK Trade Association - NMI. AESIN was launched in 2012 after several years in formation. It s core members include leaders in OEMs and each supplier tier from R&D to manufacturing. AESIN has a specialist focus on Electronic Systems and is complementary to the work of the automotive industry trade association SMMT and the UK Automotive Council. In 2013 the AESIN Core team elected Alan Banks from Visteon as Chairman AESIN provides specialist insight to the latest thinking from industry stakeholders providing an opportunity for SME s to become involved in supporting the automotive electronics revolution.

7 Share best practices in a non threatening / non competitive environment (i.e. not in a commercial driven situation) Be recognised by ESCO (Electronics Systems Community) which estimates ES annual contribution to UK economy of 80billion pounds (5.4% of GDP) Align with Strategic objectives of the Innovate UK, Transport Catapult and BIS policies to gain access to Government / Agency funding for key development projects

11 The evolution in electronics, intelligent transport systems, CE devices and vehicle systems are at the point where a cost effective connected car solution could be realised through either an embedded receiver or a mobile device There are many industry supporting standards for communications but they tend to be separate, divided by the location and the transport mechanism and as such disconnected This project will utilise existing networking practices from both the IT and automotive industry to demonstrate what is possible in a connected car architecture when combined with a wireless corridor The focus of the project is to define the interfaces and API s required to join the various communication frameworks and the software structures within the car to create a seamless communication solution Subject to appropriate approvals the solution would then be demonstrated on a trial basis on a major motorway within the UK Page 11
