1 From developing and launching a new platform to playing a mission critical role in national security incidents, proved to be a valuable tool for professionals in was a turnaround year for the DHS Information Network () Program. The program successfully migrated more than 40,000 users, 145 communities of interest and a terabyte of data to the Release 3 (R3) platform, while playing a mission critical role in several, national, highly visible events and incidents including the 2013 Super Bowl, the Boston Marathon Bombing response and Hurricane Sandy response and recovery efforts. The program also consolidated seven portals with R3. With the successful launch of R3 in July, 2013, the legacy system was officially decommissioned. () Today, homeland security professionals from across Federal, State, Local, Territorial, Tribal, International and Private Sectors use R3 as their front door to a trusted, secure network for sensitive but unclassified information sharing. Features such as secure web conferencing, Geospatial Information Systems (GIS) mapping, instant messaging, and alerts and notifications are just a few of the enhanced features in R3. At the end of 2013, the program management office announced a combined team of veteran and new Mission Advocates to better serve users across geographic and jurisdictional mission areas. 2 2013: YEAR IN REVIEW JANUARY 2013 Phoenix Open used for planning, operational and situational awareness of week-long event with more than 525,000 people, high temperatures, elevated structural and water hazards. FEBRUARY Super Bowl XLVII used to coordinate more than 500 law enforcement and US military personnel to ensure safety and security of more than 110,000 attendees. APRIL-MAY Boston Marathon Bombing used for continuous, secure, webconferencing in support of operational collaboration of more than 20 State Fusion Centers from Maine to California and more than 400 law enforcement professionals, including intelligence officials across jurisdictions nationwide Kentucky Derby and Thunder Over Louisville Festival used by more than 70 emergency medical technicians, hazmat technicians, law enforcement officers, firefighters, public health officials, other federal officials to help manage several large events of more than 500,000 people. Real-time video and cross-referencing from years past helped increase efficiency and rule out false alarms. JULY 2013 National Scout Jamboree used for real time information sharing to coordinate event security and emergency medical services for more than 200,000 attendees. Hells Angels USA Run Rally used by nearly 500 Federal, State and Local patrol officers, investigators and administrators for real-time information sharing between field and headquarters operations. Hercules Oil Well Fire used as a virtual situational display board to keep members informed of progress and actions. Information was shared real-time among geographic locations and the Incident Command Post. AUGUST Iowa State Fair Real-time information sharing on between several law enforcement entities to maintain safety and security of more than 1,000,000 attendees. SEPTEMBER St. Thomas Gas Fire Connect provided real-time collaboration between emergency teams on the island as well as within the region. OCTOBER Attempted White House Perimeter Breach DHS National Operations Center (NOC) Watch Officers posted Phase I reports to the FedOps Community of Interest (COI) on with new information posted as the incident developed. More than 450 officials used during and after the event. Tropical Storm Karen used for common operational picture planning and collaboration by Federal, State, and Local response agencies. NOVEMBER JFK 50 th Anniversary in Dallas Federal, state and local organizations used to monitor event activities and share information before, during and after the commemoration. DECEMBER Virgin Islands Incident Response Exercise used by Fusion Centers during Tide Breaker III. The exercise tested several capabilities, including intelligence/ information sharing and dissemination, interoperable communications, onsite incident management, emergency triage and pre-hospital treatment, medical evacuation, weapons of mass destruction (WMD)/hazardous material (HazMat) response, explosive device response operations and points of distribution operations.
