4 ISO Sustainability-related Activities ANSI is the U.S. Member Body to the International Organization for Standardization ISO committees are active in the sustainability space Examples include: ISO Guide 82, Guidelines for Addressing Sustainability in Standards ISO 14000, Environmental Management ISO 37101, Sustainable Development in Communities ISO 20400, Sustainable Procurement Guidance ANSI holds the secretariat for ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 39, Sustainability for and by Information Technology 25 work items are complete or underway Focus on data centers Academic-Industry Workshop May 17, 2017 Slide 4

6 ANSI Panels, Collaboratives and Workshops Workshop Toward Product Standards for Sustainability (2009) Launched with the support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, this workshop brought together over 200 experts and advocates to share insights and develop recommendations on product standards for sustainability ANSI Electric Vehicles Standards Panel (2011) ANSI Energy Efficiency Standards Coordination Collaborative (2012) ANSI Network: Smart and Sustainable Cities (2013) Explored how standards and conformance solutions can contribute to achieving smart, sustainable, and resilient cities Academic-Industry Workshop May 17, 2017 Slide 6

7 ANSI Accreditation Programs Greenhouse Gas Validation/Verification Bodies ANSI offers accreditation for organizations providing third-party validation/verification services for the reduction and removal of greenhouse gases (GHG). This accreditation program operates according to requirements found in ISO 14065:2013 Superior Energy Performance A certification program that provides facilities with a roadmap for achieving continual improvement in energy performance while maintaining competitiveness. Third-party conformity assessment bodies who conduct SEP audits are accredited under a joint program administered by ANSI and the ANSI-ASQ National Accreditation Board (ANAB). 8 ANSI Accreditation Programs In this program implementing ISO (Environmental labels and declarations Type 1 environmental labeling Principles and Procedures) and ISO (Environmental labels and declarations Type III environmental declarations Principles and Procedures), ANSI offers two types of accreditations: Third-party Eco-Labeling Certification Bodies (Type 1 - ISO 14024, and ISO/IEC 17065) Third-party Eco-Labeling Certification Bodies that verify/validate environmental product declarations (Type III - ISO 14025, and ISO/IEC 17065) In addition, ANSI offers the following eligibility determinations: Environmental Labeling Certification Scheme (Type 1 ISO 14024) Program Operators for Environmental Labels and Declarations (Type III ISO 14025) ANSI/LEO-4000 American National Standard for Sustainable Agriculture Pilot Accreditation Program for certification bodies Academic-Industry Workshop May 17, 2017 Slide 8

11 2017 initiatives 6th Student paper competition Theme: The World in 2050 Papers to consider what such a world would be like. What role did standards play in making the world you see possible? Think of innovations like smart phones and the Internet of Things, which rely upon standards to create a whole new way of communicating and interacting with the world around us. How much farther will we have come in 2050, and how will standards have played a part in our advancement? Competition deadline was April 28th 17 submissions received Team of CoE members to review submissions and make recommendations to ANSI staff on 1 st and 2 nd place winners Two cash prizes to be awarded: 1 st place $2,000, 2 nd place $1,000 Winners will be invited to ANSI Awards Dinner and Reception WSW Academic-Industry Workshop May 17, 2017 Slide 11

Standards Simulation Competition Friday, October 27, 2017 In collaboration with John Deere Hosted by San Jose State University in Santa Clara, CA Will focus on the development of a text free or minimal text (visual) international standard Participation open to university teams only, and space is limited to no more than six teams. Multi-disciplinary teams consisting of undergraduate or graduate students is highly encouraged.
