6 Basic considerations and observations BIM technology has a potential for the Infrasector BIM in Infra is hardly implemented in INFRA BIM is an international development worldwide, countries in Northern Europe are strong in it BIM is larger than an individual organisation can steer, especially open-bim Combined effort is needed BIM has a strong international network, only clients are not that active Clients may have a common interest in a OpenBim standard for Infra The EC launched their european framework for interoperability

7 What s needed? Object type libraries (dictionary), Open information exchange standards Information Delivery Specifications (What, how, frequency) Usecases (for step by step development) Acceptance of standards among infra partners (clients and contractors) and ict sector 7

9 RWS BIM-program Group of approx. 35 RWS employees work in the program in Involving scientific world and stakeholders in developing BIM for RWS and the Netherlands Organize, standardize, relate and inform (communicate with) all in this field Test the BIM products at 4 DBFM pilot projects Develop open standard information tools Test, inform, report, educate and implement with RWSemployees 9

19 Conclusion Not only contractors and BIM developers (Building Smart network) are active in Openbim implementation anymore On a european scale a significant investment is done by client organisations Client organisations try to cooperate in the development of openbim Your future infraproject could benefit from this by becoming active in one of the activities 19

20 Future possibilities for EU funding It s very likely that Infrastructure will be part of the new framework program (Horizon 2020) It is recommended to the EU (end of June) to subdivide this theme in: Construction & maintenance Services and supporting systems (BIM is included) Governance, finance, management In oct/nov draft workprogramme to program committee s Beginning of 2014 first call for proposals 20
