9 MCS has significant experience in the specification, design, manufacture, installation, commissioning and calibration of field instrumentation systems spanning most industry sectors. Our expertise covers all types of instrumentation from simple flow and level through to highly complex analytical instruments and our expertise includes Hazardous areas. From simple single instruments to very large and complex analytical instrument backboards, MCS has the experience and facilities to deliver these systems with minimum delay. MCS has recently been contracted to deliver a 1m project for Welsh Water s new Cwellyn Clean Water Treatment located in the Snowdonia National Park. The project has encompassed full design, Motor Control Centres, LV Distribution, System Integration and Electrical Installation. As part of this project, our Barnsley facility have designed and manufactured all the works instrument backboards, an example of one in build is illustrated. MCS can provide build only services based on clients detailed drawings and Bills of Materials right through to a full turnkey service covering detailed site surveys, specification, design, build, installation, commissioning and calibration. Our services include: Full Network Design We provide fully designed networks and our team is always looking into new avenues to improve feasibility & performance. Our certified Engineers have great expertise in specifying the latest products and the implementation of Repeaters, Optical Link Modules, DP/PA Converters & Active Termination into networks. Network Installation At MCS we have a dedicated installation department, which consists of multiskilled certified Profibus Installers. Their wealth of experience enables us to partake in full Profibus network installations, complying with the rules & regulations, to ensure an efficient and effective network installation. Certified Profibus Design & Installation Fault Finding, Testing, Commissioning & Certification MCS have invested in the latest diagnostic tools which enable us to identify problems within the network almost immediately. These may include connection & wiring issues and reflection & programming faults. Using ProfiTrace, our Network Analyser, we will provide a commissioned report detailing information on the performance & settings of the entire network.

11 MCS will provide an Energy Saving Site Survey. This involves a tour around your plant with your site electrical engineer, which will outline areas of potential energy saving through the use of Variable Speed Drives. This may also include applications where the use of High Efficiency (EFF1) motors, Softstarts or Energy Optomisers may also be cost-effective. There may also be applications where simple control modifications can be made to provide low cost energy savings. During the site survey we will concentrate on your major consumers of electrical energy. After completion of the site survey we will provide a comprehensive report which includes the applications with the greatest potential for energy saving along with a proposed Variable Speed Drive control philosophy, an estimated price for the installation and the potential energy savings that will be realised. MCS can monitor the energy actually being consumed with our mains analyser, which will produce results in an easy to understand graphical format from which a report is produced. This will enable us to provide a more accurate payback time. MCS can also provide monitoring of the Harmonic Distortion of a site s supply voltage to determine if an installation complies with the Electricity Authority Harmonic Recommendation G5/4. Recommendations, proposals and installation can then be given for methods of harmonic reduction if necessary. Energy Monitoring & Power Supply Quality

13 The role of the thermal imaging survey as a maintenance aid is becoming increasingly important and widespread. A thermal imaging survey can provide an instantaneous means of identifying problems areas and can locate faults like loose connections, internal heating or pending failure of component undetectable by more conventional maintenance methods and all could be the cause of production loss, or in the worst case, fires. MCS Controls Systems offers non-invasive thermal imaging surveys which can considerably reduce the chances of unplanned down-time and loss of production. A comprehensive report is provided with photographic evidence and prioritised actions which can reduce costly reactive maintenance. A typical imaging survey on a small to medium factory can be carried out in a single day. The thermal imaging survey is not a replacement for periodic electrical testing and inspection but a valued addition. In some cases a thermal imaging survey may satisfy your insurance company as an interim documented safety test whilst full periodic testing is taking place. Thermographic Surveys
