EXTEC - our business is technology for potentially explosive atmospheres and industrial applications 1987: Automation technology was advancing at a rapid pace. Back then, intelligent display and control equipment was still extremely problematic to implement. EXTEC Oesterle GmbH has been demonstrating new solutions for these areas ever since its foundation in 1987: the firm's original focus was on developing intrinsically safe, electronic display and control systems - which were able to communicate directly between the hazardous area and the computer and PLC systems in the safe area - and then placing them on the market. High-performance Windows software package for graphical configuration of all the control, display and visualisation devices in the TERMEX family with an object-oriented user interface, integrated testing and simulation tools, online language switcher and a lot more. TERMEX PRO cuts the time required for configuration and supports project documentation. TERMEX. Intrinsically safe text and graphics terminals in monochrome and VGA colour. For operator prompting as well as control and visualisation of equipment and machines. A wide range of PLC protocols and fieldbus interfaces (Modbus/RTU, Profibus-DP). Individually configurable with integrated setup functionality. Various serial and binary peripherals can be connected directly in the hazardous area: Ex barcode readers, Ex balances from several different manufacturers, pushbuttons and switches. The complete system is freely programmable with EPCA. PROGRAMMING TOOL EPCA EPCA. Windows software package for free programming of all the control, display and visualisation devices in the TERMEX family in the high-level C language. EPCA, integrated in TERMEX PRO as an option, includes a sophisticated development environment with a very extensive function library that permits additional functions to be implemented quickly and efficiently.

5 VISUEX THE PANEL PC FOR EX-AREAS VISUEX PCEX. The panel PC for hazardous ex-areas, zone 1, is provided with a Touch Screen and foil keyboard. The PCEX410 is used for operation and visualisation. Equipped with a powerful processor and a big hard disk for Windows or Unix systems, additional applications like Soft-PLC, Soft-DCS, SCADA systems of Client Server solutions can be installed. Communication with partner systems is possible with ETHER- NET or serial protocols. An all-purpose technology, ETHERNET has also proven and established itself as a medium of communication in automation technology. The PCEX 410 with its standard ETHERNET interface is in line with this market trend. In the near future, the possibility to operate remote I/Os from major suppliers directly via the PCEX 410 system will offer a simplified and more efficient plant configuration for automation in the chemical, pharmaceutical and petrochemical industries.

6 IPC-EX THE PC FRONT END 15", 18", 21" MONITORS ipc-ex. A modular, intrinsically safe industrial PC system for complex control and visualisation tasks in hazardous areas. Especially tailored solutions are offered for a variety of applications. A choice of ergonomically optimised and attractively priced operator stations are available. All the systems are supplied with TFT monitors, country-specific PC keyboards, mouse systems suitable for industrial environments, and optional with Touch Screen and identification systems. The Ex operating components can be connected to any PC in the safe area without interference by means of fibre optic wires more than 750 m long. Thanks to its modular design, the system can be optimally adapted to the task at hand. SCANEX EXI BARCODE READING SYSTEMS SCANEX is a complete family of intrinsically safe barcode readers for a variety of industrial applications: hand-held barcode scanners with cable or with battery operation and radio interface, or stationary miniature scanners in a stainless steel casing or Exi hand-held scanners. The devices are capable of reading all standard barcode families used in industry and the retail sector. All Exi barcode readers can be connected directly to either a host computer or an operator terminal belonging to the TERMEX family, the ipc-ex series and the VISUEX PCEX.

7 COMPEX WEIGHING EQUIPMENT COMPEX. Intrinsically safe component and system solutions for industrial weighing applications. TER- MEX display and control devices with additional electronic circuits for evaluating weighing applications. All components can be calibrated and are approved according to EN Balances, components and load cells from all major suppliers can be connected together in the potentially explosive atmosphere. COMPEX allows all weight measurement, display and processing tasks to be handled conveniently inside the hazardous area. TASTEX EXI PC KEYBOARDS TASTEX. Intrinsically safe, foil-type, short-travel keyboards and mouse systems for connection to a PC. They combine ideally with the systems in the ipc and VISUEX families as well as with all customdesigned Exp systems. Various keyboard layouts are available to cater for international requirements. All TASTEX components can be supplied either for panel mounting or in a stainless steel casing for desktop mounting. EXTEC CUSTOMER AND AFTER-SALES SERVICE Competent advice if standard components have to be made Ex-compatible or the available components selected and customised. EXTEC's know-how, built up over a period of many years, enables you to implement any protection concept that is suitable for potentially explosive atmospheres. Software development. Special software solutions are often necessary in addition to mechanical and electrical measures in order to integrate individual control and display components into the overall system. We help you to develop specific applications quickly and inexpensively. Configuration. EXTEC configures and programs the visualisation system for the explosion-protected equipment. On-site commissioning and maintenance. At your request, EXTEC can also take care of the electrical commissioning after the components have been delivered and assembled, install drivers and prepare the software for loading. Custom products are developed, and electronic equipment and microprocessor systems for hardware and software manufactured by the experienced EXTEX development team.

8 THE SYSTEM'S ADVANTAGES In addition to the standard tasks of any operator terminal, such as prompting the operator by means of plain text and graphics or forwarding user inputs and responses to the process system, the optional peripheral interfaces allow integrated system solutions to be implemented directly in the hazardous area. Barcode readers, balances, keyboard extensions and simple additional buttons can be connected to intrinsically safe serial ports. The main advantage of this kind of field system solution is that it simplifies the wiring, the barriers and the interfaces of the process system. Moreover, different devices and system components are able to communicate with the process via a single, homogeneous data port. From now on, customising will be child's play.
