During her tenure at FEA, her practice has extended from evaluation of the built environment, to the facility management area, including maintenance and operations of building systems, facility management technology, sustainability and energy management, and training of management and engineering staff in topics ranging from hazardous materials management to sustainability. While at FEA, Mayra has participated and managed the following types of projects: Hazardous materials surveys and abatement projects Facility condition assessments Facility asset management and technology projects Reserve studies for homeowners associations Sustainability assessments Energy audits Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED ) Certification projects Carbon emissions inventory projects Environmental Studies Mayra s environmental consulting work has included site investigation projects, including hazardous building materials surveys and monitoring; environmental site investigations (Phase I); indoor air quality assessments; and preparation of remedial investigations and feasibility studies. In addition, Mayra has managed various construction projects, including contract administration
2 and oversight of renovation and demolition projects with hazardous material abatement components. She has spoken in various conferences (such as the National Association for Environmental Professionals) and for property management groups about environmental issues in the existing building environment. Facility Condition Assessments & Capital Planning During her tenure at FEA, Mayra has been involved in building system condition assessments ranging from general, whole-building assessments to develop capital improvement projects for a diverse group of clients, to reserve analysis for community property managers. Mayra has effectively participated in and managed numerous projects and assessments teams, including asset inventory for the Smithsonian Institution, facility condition assessments for the District of Colombia Office of Property Management, and facility management and condition assessment services for the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) in Washington DC and Latin-America. Facility Management Technology Mayra has worked with clients such as the Inter-American Development Bank, the University of Connecticut, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in various FM technology related projects, including facility management software strategic planning and selection, computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) implementations and optimization projects, best practices white paper development, and training. Sustainability Mayra routinely works with commercial, higher education, and federal facility clients on making their existing buildings more sustainable, energy efficient, and on carbon footprint reduction programs. While at FEA, Mayra has participated and managed sustainability assessments, energy audits, Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED ) Certification projects, and carbon emissions inventory projects. Mayra has worked with the City of Austin, Vision Service Plan, and the National Education Association in their pursuit of LEED certification. In addition, she has written and presented extensively on sustainability and green building issues for property management groups and in conferences such as Greenbuild and NFM&T. Training/Presentations/Education Mayra has also been an instructor for LEED Green Associate and LEED Accredited Professional review courses as well as for USGBC-approved courses, some of which she has developed. In addition to being an instructor, Mayra was one of the main course developers for George Mason University s Office of Continuing Education Sustainability Certificate Program. Mayra was among the first to teach the International Facility Management Association's (IFMA) newest credential, the Sustainability Facility Professional. She co-authored IFMA Foundation s Sustainability How-To-Guide on Green Rating Systems. Mayra was one of the primary course developers and instructors for the Office of Continuing Education s Sustainability Certificate Program. The course was offered not only to enrolled GMU students, but to facility managers and building engineers for the General Services Administration (GSA). SCA Environmental, Inc. Designed asbestos and lead abatement, and mold remediation projects; generated proposals for surveys, abatements, and other environmental services. Fieldwork experience included asbestos and lead surveys; supervision of removal of hazardous materials; indoor air quality assessments, noise monitoring, and environmental site assessments. Aided in the analysis of soil samples through the preparation of samples for testing, running testing procedures, and collecting data which would be used as the basis of a series of papers to be written on the subject of adsorption and desorption of chemicals in soil samples for the department of Environmental Engineering.
