This published roadmap was based on current information and resource allocations as of July 1 st, 2009, and is subject to change or withdrawal by CA at any time without notice. The information in this roadmap is intended to outline CA s general product direction. All information in this Product Roadmap is for informational purposes only, and may is not deemed to be incorporated into any contract. CA assumes no responsibility for the accuracy or completeness of the information. Product Mission CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager (CA Spectrum) software delivers automated service, fault and configuration management across diverse, multi-technology infrastructures to assure the availability of critical infrastructure services that are essential for your business applications. Patented root cause and impact analysis technology immediately pinpoints the degraded or failed infrastructure component, indicates who and what are impacted, and offers a fix. Reporting capabilities deliver at-aglance, actionable information regarding IT asset, availability, event and alarm, and performance metrics. Product Strategy CA Spectrum accelerates Enterprise IT Management (EITM). Automated Discovery, combined with powerful Inductive Modeling Technology, extends the view of the physical infrastructure beyond the physical, logical and virtual infrastructure to the critical infrastructure services that enable applications and higher level business services. CA s strategy is to further extend CA Spectrum s extensive support for emerging IP technologies and vendors and develop new solutions for critical IP services. We will continue to provide timely support updates, certify new devices and deliver tools that support self-certification for unique equipment and services. CA Spectrum is part of a comprehensive service availability solution available from CA. Its infrastructure management capability is built upon our unique combination of Infrastructure Fault, Response, and Configuration management. Additional Service Level Intelligence and Reporting modules enable IT organizations to monitor and report on the real-time health of critical infrastructure services. Customers can measure Service Level delivery and compare it against Service Level Agreements and objectives. Customers today leverage CA Spectrum to monitor critical infrastructure services that are the foundation for all other IT services. CA will continue to invest and deliver rich out-of-thebox integrations among other CA solutions that, together, enable complete end-to-end EITM. CA Spectrum has an extensive set of standards-based interfaces that enable our customers to integrate with other third-party or home-grown tools. As an independent management software vendor, we recognize the value of supporting multi-vendor hardware, technologies, and applications; we will continue to sponsor partnerships and help enable the integration of our products with products developed outside of our own R&D labs. Previous Release Status Release Number: r8.1 Version / Build: SP2
Targeted End of Service: At release of CA Spectrum r9.2.0 Release Number: r9.0.0 Version / Build: Initial r9.0.0 release Target End of Support Date: At release of CA Spectrum r Please note that CA s official support policy is to support the current GA release and the previous one. For more detail on end of support information specifically for these products please see the CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager Support site at For more information regarding CA's product support lifecycle policy, please visit our CA Support Online website. Current Release Status Release Number: r9.1.0 Highlighted features are outlined below. Please see the CA Spectrum r9.1.0 Software Release Notes (SRN) for a comprehensive list of new features. GA Date: May 22 nd, 2009 Management of next generation datacenters A new Virtual Host Manager is now available to allow the management of virtualized infrastructures. Leveraging CA Virtual Performance Management (CA VPM), the goal of Virtual Host Manager is to allow enterprises, government agencies and service providers to leverage their existing investment in CA Spectrum to gain a consistent user experience managing across physical and virtual environments. The Virtual Host Manager visualizes the topology of the fast-growing virtual environment integrated with the existing physical infrastructure and allows customers to take advantage of CA Spectrum s rich set of management features and use them to manage the nuances of their virtualized environment including visibility into the logical grouping of resources, fault isolation across physical and virtual machines and the ability to track VMware VMotion TM resource changes. Enhanced management of Service Provider core Networks A new MPLS Transport Manager allows the management of service provider MPLS core networks using TE-based Label Switched Paths (or LSPs). The goal of the MPLS Transport Manager is to provide a solution for discovery and real-time monitoring of the core service provider MPLS traffic engineered network and its components (e.g. LSPs). The ability to visualize MPLS paths is available with CA Spectrum s spotlighting feature and correlation of known alarm conditions with MPLS-specific logical entities (e.g. MPLS Path) and less obvious issues such as excessive path switching allows for identifying root cause issues in MPLS TE environments. Also provides the ability to aggregate MPLS core infrastructure management into other parts of CA SPECTRUM (e.g. Report Manager and Service Manager). Integrate with a larger number of EITM solutions To enable Lean IT, most customers are looking to reduce the number of tools and suppliers and decrease the amount of time and services associated with integrating domainspecific tools and multi-vendor IT management environments. New CA Spectrum integrations include CA Spectrum Service Assurance Manager, CA ehealth Database Performance Option, CA ehealth Traffic Accountant as well as
updated integrations with CA Service Desk and CA Wily Introscope. Core Platform Enhancements - Cisco Nexus Switch family certification supporting the NX-OS firmware. New support or Alcatel discovery protocol that enables automated connectivity mapping for Alcatel s 6200, 6600, 6850 and 7700 product lines. Enhanced multilink connection monitoring. A new Integration Package Utility that enables the administrator to package Spectrum s integration utilities (e.g. AlarmNotifier, CLI, Modeling Gateway, Southbound Gateway, SSlogger, etc) for deployment on a host where CA Spectrum is not installed. Next Release Release Number: r9.1.1 Planned New Features/Functionality in the Future Each new feature or functionality included in future releases is subject to change based on a number of factors, including but not limited to internal and external beta testing, development plan changes, and feedback from customers and users. Accordingly, the product may likely have different features and/or functionality than stated in this Roadmap. New Certifications Siemens Unified Communication (Siemens HiPath 8000 IP Softswitch) F5 Networks Vipiron TippingPoint 2400E IPS TippingPoint Core Controllers CA Spectrum r9.1.2 The goal for this service pack release is to deliver certification updates and software fixes. Internationalization/ Localization An internationalized product is an English product that runs correctly on local language versions of the required operating system and required third-party products, and supports local language data for input and output.
Internationalized products also support the ability to specify local language conventions for date, time, currency and number formats. CA Spectrum is currently English only. A localized product (also referred to as a translated product) is an internationalized product that includes local language support for the product's user interface, online help and other documentation, as well as local language default settings for date, time, currency, and number formats. CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager Localized Target Release Dates: Spectrum r9.1.0 Second Half Calendar 2009: Japanese Product Direction There are several customer-facing and architectural goals that have guided CA Spectrum s roadmap to date and it is CA s goal to continue to do so for the foreseeable future. o data provided through integration with a variety of CA and thirdparty applications. Multi-vendor, multi-technology support As organizations deploy new and enhanced underlying technologies, from existing and new vendors, to support the business, CA s goal for Spectrum is to support these new technologies and vendors to help ensure management visibility and control over the ever-evolving IT infrastructure. This includes projects that deliver new and expanded types of manageable assets and technologies while improving the out-of-the-box self certification capabilities that would enable CA Spectrum customers to rapidly add support of new or updated managed infrastructure resources. First and foremost, we continually seek to expand CA Spectrum s core competencies to monitor the infrastructure s availability and health. The core capabilities are the foundation of managing today s IT infrastructures and it is imperative that CA Spectrum remains vibrant and relevant in these essential areas; they include o Further simplify administration As the management infrastructure takes on a more critical role in assuring ongoing IT infrastructure stability, CA Spectrum is expected to provide new and enhanced levels of automation and fail-safes to support 7x24 operations. o Discovery, Root Cause Analysis, Fault Suppression and Impact Analysis At the heart of CA Spectrum is its modeling and root cause analysis engines. It is anticipated that futures releases will see continuous improvement in determining the root cause for failures in the infrastructure and applying the appropriate mechanism for the many types of failure signatures. This includes projects that leverage new raw o It is expected that CA Spectrum s support for large-scale distributed environments will continue, in addition to support for industry standards being adopted and deployed by the customer base. Support Business-enabling IP Technologies These are the underlying technologies (such as Server and Network Virtualization, SAN, Virtual Private LAN Service (VPLS), Metro and Carrier Ethernet, Multicast, QoS, Unified
Communications and Computing, Wireless Technologies and so forth) that enable business-critical services and applications. The technologies bring with them their own nuances that CA Spectrum is expected to continue to manage as effectively as past technologies. o Where appropriate, it is expected that CA Spectrum would discover, map and model these IP technologies to bring them under management along with already managed assets. o Where appropriate, it is expected that CA Spectrum would graphically represent the distinctive characteristics (such as Server and Network Virtualization, Layer 3 Overlays, VPLS and MPLS Traffic Engineering management) of these technologies to aide real time management and troubleshooting. o Where appropriate, it is expected that CA Spectrum s root cause analysis and event correlation mechanisms would continue to be enhanced to detect and identify problems within these environments. Information Delivery The IT infrastructure and the knowledge it provides in relation to the applications that the business relies on is no longer the sole concern of the IT Operations team. Increasingly, a wider set of less technical, more business-focused consumers require access to the information CA Spectrum provides. To facilitate this access, it is anticipated that CA Spectrum will continue to deliver information appropriate to these users though CA Spectrum s OneClick console and integrate OneClick into CA s existing information portals. Integrated Fault and Configuration Management IP infrastructures today are built as highly redundant, highly resilient infrastructures. While, hard outages occur infrequently, more common are the outages caused by inadvertent or incorrect configuration changes to a key infrastructure element. CA Spectrum s future is likely to include projects to address this operational reality. o Expansions of CA Spectrum s root cause analysis capabilities to factor configuration changes to a device as a possible cause of a more wide-spread infrastructure degradation or outage. o A by-product of this effort would provide the means to automate the administrative tasks of effecting configuration changes to infrastructure elements for a variety of popular vendors and product lines. o Application Integration Successful EITM requires the highest levels of integration between products that support the Enterprise IT environment. CA expects to continually improve the integration between CA Spectrum and other CA solutions our customers have deployed in their environments. Primary among these will be support for CA s Catalyst application integration platform. Further it is expected that integrations with other CA solutions such as CA CMDB, CA ehealth, CA Wily Introscope, CA Insight Database Performance Management, CA NSM, CA Service Desk, CA Spectrum Service Assurance Manager, CA Virtual
Performance Manager and others will be delivered. It is expected that integration support for vendors such Alcatel, Cisco, Dell, Fujitsu, HP, IBM, Juniper, Microsoft, VMware, to name a few, may come in future releases. Finally, it is anticipated that CA will to continue to provide a diverse set of toolkits that enable our customers to integrate CA Spectrum with other management solutions. These would include enhancements to the CA Spectrum Southbound Gateway (Event Integration), Model Gateway Toolkit, and the introduction of a new Network Configuration Extension Toolkit, as well as the planned delivery of a customer facing Web Service API. The CA Spectrum Roadmap and future product direction is greatly influenced by our customers. As such, the CA Spectrum Product Management team welcomes discussions with customers regarding product enhancements and solutions. Please contact your CA Account team or authorized partner to arrange a discussion with the CA Spectrum Product Team. Targeted Projects CA Spectrum r9.2.0 Target Beta Date: 1H 2010 Target GA Date: 1H 2010 In addition to many other feature updates, the following are anticipated for CA Spectrum Infrastructure Manager r9.2.0 Support the continued widespread deployment of MPLS transport technologies and the consumption of MPLS services: o Introduce VPLS Management capability for Layer 2 VPNs. o Introduce Management of MPLS Traffic Engineered environments.
