Station 7, Rescue 1 (100 Arbor Rd) Attendees: Michelle Brock, Kim Lewis, Greg Ray, Tim Roten, Paige Winn, Jim Young Guest: Rescue 1 Captain Bryan Knight Welcome Announcements: Emergency Management event: Are You Prepared?..Zombie 5K, this weekend. Come out and show your green! Contact Jim Young if you would like to represent CERT or rescuetech@earthlink.net This is a food drive and fundraiser for Second Harvest Food Bank, so if you come, please bring 3 non-perishable food items. Flyer attached Tim Roten will be learning the ID badging system at the EM office Organizational changes: The District Commander positions are vacant until further notice. NEW Forsyth CERT brochure: Brochure includes Forsyth CERT pictures, mission, training opportunities, contact information and QR Code. Feel free to print the brochure and share with others. Congratulations Greg Ray! Greg was named Forsyth CERT Volunteer of the Year for Greg had over 200 volunteer hours dedicated to Forsyth CERT in 2012 alone. As the Operations Liaison for Forsyth CERT, Greg continues to be heavily engaged with Emergency management-related and CERT meetings, training and activities. Greg received a plaque at the Volunteer of the Year Awards Banquet in February. Operations Liaison Report: Greg shared a list of his involvement in training and meetings. Report attached PIO Report: Tim explained that Forsyth CERT social media (Facebook and Twitter) needs more followers. It is important that Forsyth CERT members promote these sites and share with friends and family.

2 Upcoming Training: May 25th, 9am-12pm, Basic & Advanced SKYWARN/Weather Spotter Training 12-12:30, Intro to CERT (for beginners) June 29th, 9am-12pm, CERT skills training focusing on fire and medical operations, details to be determined Both training days will be held at 1450 Fairchild Rd, Winston-Salem (Forsyth County Cooperative Extension Building, Auditorium C) See calendar for all training, event & meeting information: Funding: CERT Grant funds are currently being expended. Items include the Volunteer of the Year banquet, CERT training supplies/tools, public outreach materials (table, chair, table linen, brochures) Special Presentation: Jim Young presented Map Your Neighborhood, a program developed by Washington State Emergency Management and used by South Carolina CERT. This program instructs CERTs on how to assist neighborhoods with increasing their readiness. Ross Patterson (Forsyth CERT Advisor) supplied Forsyth CERT with 2 program delivery CDs and a pack of program booklets. Forsyth CERT members in attendance agreed that this is a program worthy of implementing in Forsyth County. Although supplies are currently limited, Forsyth CERT can begin to deliver the program to neighborhoods and Michelle will look into how we can duplicate the program materials. Special Presentation: see the Forsyth CERT Facebook page for pictures WSFD Rescue 1 Captain Bryan Knight expressed his appreciation for CERT volunteers and the important work that CERTs do for the community. As a firefighter, rescue technician, EMT, Asst. Fire Chief of Union Cross FD and a fire/rescue training coordinator for Davidson Community College, Capt. Knight understands that trained emergency volunteers are a valuable community. resource. Capt Knight showed the group Rescue 1 and its heavy rescue equipment. He also answered questions about the equipment and rescue operations. A special thank you to Capt Bryan Knight and WSFD for the hospitality shown to Forsyth CERT!

Assemble a home emergency kit with all the supplies you need to survive on your own for a minimum of three days. Make an emergency plan and practice it with your family so everyone knows what to do. The same preparations are made to be ready for hurricanes, tornadoes, severe storms, winter weather, floods, fires and any other disaster or emergency we face in North Carolina.
