4 REUNA: Evolution of the network 20+ years contributing to the digital development of Chile. 1992, first international connectivity. 1993, backbone of Kbps (256Kbps a 512Kbps). 1997, high capacity backbone 155Mbps over 3000Km. 2000, connection to Internet , founder member of RedCLARA. 2005, connection to RedCLARA by them to EU by ALICE project 2006, increase backbone capacity (~1Gbps). 2011, OTU-2 DWDM backbone over 1200Km. (EVALSO) 2012, metropolitan DWDM network (NLHPC) 2014, ALMA connectivity project

11 NLHPC: National Lab for HPC HPC for Big Data science Consortium of Universities, research centers, observatories and REUNA HPC available for the whole Chilean research community A DWDM metropolitan network (Santiago) OTU-2 and OTU-1 Lambdas Currently six DWDM nodes A central cluster of 50 teraflops Plus HPC clusters in 5 universities

15 Fibra Optica Austral Governmental project to connect the southern region Currently this region is reach by Satellite or terrestrial by Argentina The project aim to: Reach with fiber from Puerto Montt to Puerto Williams Mix of submarine cable with terrestrial fiber (3.000 Km) To strengthen the telecommunications service for the community in synergy with network infrastructure for the public sector

16 Platform for the research and education Moving forward to integrate the whole national R&E system 20 Universities 10 Research centers, 50% of them are astronomy centers Extension to 12 of 15 national regions Integrated to the global network by RedCLARA to Geant, Internet2, etc.
