Alternative financing of the demand: The various alternatives, e.g. ESCO, EPC, PPP, that exist for financing demand side sustainable energy Monetizing the opportunity: Commercialization of large scale transport infrastructure: The number of rail-way, port and airport projects are considerable both at national and regional scale. However, the current budgetary constraints result in an increasing need for commercialization of such large-scale projects. State of play with respect to the PPP legislation in the GCC: The different GCC member states offer different possibilities for PPP. However, the legislation is being changed to accommodate industry. As provision and support of strategic utilities is planned for greenfield cities such as the Expo 2020 site and numerous new residential and business communities, the GCC countries have the opportunity to set the sector's global benchmarks. Interactive session where participants identify opportunities and policy barriers for transportation PPP projects in the region. Participants will include high level GCC officials from transportation authorities, senior GCC business executives and EU companies and organizations. Integrating different modes of transportation, urban planning can address climate and environmental issues such as private car use and congestion, for instance through increased public transportation. This saves both time and cost for people and society. With relatively few mass rapid transit systems currently in operation, most GCC countries now have new metro systems and bus systems either under proposal, planning or construction. This interactive session is dedicated to identifying how this challenge is being met in the region, opportunities for enhancement, and what new skills and/or knowledge remain outside our reach and worth supporting as new opportunities.
