1 Software Announcement June 24, 2003 Data Management Tools for IBM DB2 Universal Database for Now Support Windows, AIX, and Linux Overview IBM is expanding the DB2 customer solutions supporting Workgroup Edition, Workgroup Unlimited Edition, Workgroup Server Edition, and Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition by offering enhanced tools for Microsoft Windows, AIX, and Linux: DB2 Table Editor for V4.3 lets you easily support your business processes and empower novice end users with customized task-specific table editing forms. It also gives your database experts a robust set of tools to quickly and easily access, update, and delete data across multiple DB2 database platforms. DB2 High Performance Unload (HPU) for V2.1 gives you a fast and efficient tool for unloading and extracting data for movement across the enterprise or for reorganization in-place. It processes multiple select statements at the same time so that multiple requests of the DB2 UDB will be processed in a single scan of the table. DB2 Performance Expert for V1.1 offers a comprehensive view that consolidates, reports, analyzes, and recommends changes on DB2 performance-related information. Plus, it provides online snapshot reports, a buffer pool analyzer and reporting facility, and can selectively store performance data in its own managed performance data warehouse. DB2 Web Query Tool for V1.3 extracts the full performance out of DB2 databases while making it easy for users at all levels to access enterprise-wide data. It connects all your users directly to multiple enterprise databases, securely and simultaneously, regardless of database size, hardware, operating system, or location. Key prerequisites These programs will operate on any hardware and software configuration that supports the required version of a DB2 Workgroup Edition, DB2 Workgroup Unlimited Edition, DB2 Workgroup Server Edition, or DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition. 2 Description In 2002, IBM delivered tools to expand DB2 Universal Database (UDB) across multiplatforms with the introduction of DB2 Web Query Tool V1.3, DB2 Table Editor V4.3, DB2 Performance Expert V1.1, and DB2 High Performance Unload V2.1. Similar tools are now offered for Windows, AIX, and Linux on DB2 Workgroup Editions. DB2 Table Editor for V4.3 DB2 Table Editor for supports DB2 Workgroup Edition, DB2 Workgroup Unlimited Edition, DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition, and DB2 Workgroup Server Edition on DB2 V7, or later, on AIX, Linux, and Windows. It can access DB2 data that resides in databases on all these platforms. DB2 Table Editor lets you easily support your business processes, and empower novice end user, with customized task-specific table editing forms. It gives your database experts a robust set of tools to perform ad hoc table editing tasks across multiple databases and platforms. Since end users only need a browser, the solutions you choose to create with DB2 Table Editor have maximum reach. DB2 Table Editor makes it possible to provide direct DB2 database access to anyone for creating, reviewing, or updating data. Task-specific forms that are restricted to specific data and actions can be quickly built and rolled out to novice end users, and an expert interface can be used for browsing existing databases and ad hoc actions. A Java -enabled browser is all that is needed on the client machine for using DB2 Table Editor solutions. Wizards and a drag-and-drop Windows environment let you quickly develop table editing forms, which are like mini-applications suitable for a wide variety of common business tasks. Data filtering, business and data access rules, database connections, command buttons, and dialogs are embedded directly in the forms (which can be optionally placed in existing Web pages) so end users can focus on their work instead of database technicalities. DB2 Table Editor supports multiple database platforms, mission-critical DB2 features such as existing DB2 security and referential integrity, and advanced DB2 features like large object (LOB) support. Customers who need to safely provide data editing and data entry capabilities to end users at the front lines of a business or to database administrators (DBAs) will find DB2 Table Editor a valuable offering. IBM also offers DB2 Table Editor for z/os and DB2 Table Editor for IBM iseries. To access DB2 data on z/os, you need DB2 Table Editor for z/os and to access DB2 data on iseries, you need the DB2 Table Editor for iseries. All the DB2 Table Editors are licensed by data platform where the database data exists. For a list of additional functions in V4.3, refer to the Additional Information section. DB2 High Performance Unload (HPU) for V2.1 DB2 HPU gives you a fast and efficient tool for unloading and extracting data for movement across the enterprise or for reorganization in-place. The product delivers high levels of parallelism and distribution of data across multiple logical nodes. It processes multiple select statements at the same time so that multiple requests of the DB2 UDB will be processed in a single scan of the table. DB2 HPU also has the capability to: Rapidly unload tablespaces of all types supported by DB2 Make the output file-set a tape, disk, or named pipe, formatted suitably for optional reorganization or reload Simultaneously execute several unloads accessing the same tablespace Unload selected rows and columns Unload every n-rows and maximum rows Generate load control statements for subsequent reload Optionally unload data and move information to a single file-set for use in another database environment Do unload against backups to eliminate interference with DB2 production databases (the backups can be any full offline SMS copy) DB2 HPU can be used as the basis of a very high-speed reorganization, as well as high-speed data movement. It supports DB2 Workgroup Edition, DB2 Workgroup Unlimited Edition, DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition, and DB2 Workgroup Server Edition on DB2 V7, or later, running on AIX, Windows, and Linux. DB2 Performance Expert (PE) for V1.1 DB2 PE for offers a comprehensive view that consolidates, reports, analyzes, and recommends changes on DB2 performance-related information. DB2 PE can selectively employ and integrate the view from all trace sources, snapshot, and event outputs. It provides online snapshot reports, a buffer pool analyzer and reporting facility, and can selectively store performance data in its own managed performance data warehouse intended for further study and evaluation at the detailed and rolled up level. DB2 PE gives you a state-of-the-art workstation user interface (UI). The UI simplifies DBA tasks by providing a common tool s UI across DB2 server platforms, thus reducing the training requirements for DBAs across these platforms. The UI can be started stand-alone. DB2 Performance Expert for supports DB2 UDB Workgroup Edition, Workgroup Unlimited Edition, Workgroup Server Edition, and Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition on Windows, AIX, and Linux. DB2 PE Performance Monitor: You can use DB2 PE to: Monitor DB2 and DB2 applications both online and by evaluating the report sets View and examine the status of a DB2 instance and its applications while they are currently active or investigate events and performance problems that happened in the past Monitor an entire system Recognize trends and anticipate potential bottlenecks

3 The DB2 PE output gives you valuable hints on potential performance problems and useful assistance for corrective and preventive measures. The Online Monitor observes and records selected activities within DB2 and DB2 applications. The user-defined exception processing can recognize significant deviations from the norm and notify the user who is working with the Online Monitor. The reporting facility presents performance information about details of events in reports, graphs, and data sets. The system-wide performance data shows information about CPU times, buffer pool usage, locking, I/O activity, and more. For example, for a particular application, you can find out the: Elapsed time Time spent in DB2 Time it was suspended Read and write activity involved Locks obtained SQL statements executed DB2 PE Warehouse: In addition to being viewed interactively, the performance data gathered can be saved automatically in a system-maintained performance data warehouse. Additional analytical analysis can be performed on the time series data looking for trends, growth, or potential problems. DB2 PE Buffer Pool Analyzer: Buffer pools are considered among the most valuable components of a relational database system. To obtain information on current buffer pool behavior, DB2 PE Buffer Pool Analyzer collects data and provides detailed reports on related event activity. It can provide these reports in the form of tables, pie charts, and diagrams. Dependencies: The product is supported on any processor capable of operating DB2 UDB V7, or later. The product requires DB2 UDB for Linux (I32), AIX, or Windows on DB2 Workgroup Edition, DB2 Workgroup Unlimited Edition, DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition, or DB2 Workgroup Server Edition, V7, or later. IBM also offers DB2 Web Query Tool for z/os and DB2 Web Query Tool for iseries. To access DB2 data on z/os, you need DB2 Web Query Tool for z/os and to access DB2 data on iseries, you need the DB2 Web Query Tool for iseries. All the DB2 Web Query Tools are licensed by data platform where the database data exists. Each DB2 Web Query Tool includes servlets that run on all specifically supported Web servers. The Web server does not need to be on the same platforms as the database servers supporting the data to be accessed. DB2 Web Query Tool for supports DB2 Workgroup Edition, DB2 Workgroup Unlimited Edition, DB2 Workgroup Server Unlimited Edition and DB2 Workgroup Server Edition on V7, or later, on AIX, Linux, and Windows. Support for New Types of Forms: Create a form without having to associate it with a primary table. This new feature lets you build new types of forms. For example, you can create a menu form that simply controls the launching of other forms. DB2 Web Query Tool for V1.3 The Web Query Tool lets you: Connect Web-based users directly to multiple enterprise database platforms and brands simultaneously, regardless of database size, hardware, operating system, or location. Maintain existing DB2 security and support multiple DB2 database platforms all from one tool. Provide instant global access to business information over multiple clients including Wireless Access Protocol (WAP) enabled devices like cell phones, PDAs, text pagers. Run with no special client software Operates for any client via JDBC connection and a Web browser. Build, test, and share even the most complex queries with an intuitive interface. Enable complex querying, data comparisons, and customized presentation. Explore database objects, including tables and views. Leverage advanced SQL and query building features, such as multiple SQL statements, parameterized variables, and DB2-specific SQL. View, download, import, and convert query results to diverse file formats, including HTML, XML/XSL,.TXT, and.csv files for use on other databases and desktop applications. Perform other data conversion tasks, such as omitting columns from a dataset or imposing new data types. Import data from XML and other files, and use to create new or append to existing tables. Minimize application maintenance, and leverage the intranet or Internet for database connectivity. J2EE support: Web Query is now a J2EE-compliant Web application that can be deployed on WebSphere V4. Shared catalog: To avoid having to set up a separate catalog at each location/connection, you can choose to share saved objects (queries and results) in a Web Query catalog. Objects saved in a shared catalog can be directed to run at any connected database server. Usability enhancements: Included in this new release is the ability to save and reuse settings and filters, additional filter specification (including case sensitive filters), a streamlined query execution path, and context sensitive help; an SQL assistant component is also included, which helps less technical users write and run queries. Server-side XSL: Server-side XSL transformations are now applied to the generated XML/XSL data, which removes all requirements for client-side XML translation software components. Stored procedure support: A DB2 stored procedure can be run by selecting it from the Web Query object tree. You can also run a stored procedure by specifying a CALL statement in your query. Web services (Simple Access Object Protocol (SOAP)): A saved query can be published as a SOAP service that any SOAP requester can access. Scalable vector graphing (SVG): Result sets can be transformed to graphs/charts using the SVG model. LOB support: You can retrieve LOB data in Web Query. Some products have additional requirements as follows: DB2 High Performance Unload (HPU) DB2 HPU has the same hardware requirements as the DB2 server it is supporting. Depending upon options selected, HPU will require up to 42 MB of disk space plus approximately an additional 150 MB of temporary disk space during install. On the UNIX systems should be around 150 MB in /tmp and around 100 MB in /var free before the install starts. DB2 Performance Expert A minimum of 200 MB of free disk space UNIX (installed with the server) requires 22 MB in the installation directory Windows (remote client) requires 128 MB memory and 130 MB of hard disk space DB2 Table Editor Approximately 16 MB of free disk space on a Windows machine. Information that you send to DB2 Web Query Tool first goes through your Web server. Your Web server passes the information to your Web application server (WebSphere Application Server). 6 Notes WebSphere Application Server is recommended (V3.5.6 Advanced, and V4.0.3 Advanced Edition are supported). However, DB2 Web Query Tool is compatible with any application server that supports JSDK 1.3 and above, J2EE, and JDBC 1.0. DBC Drivers other than those for DB2 can be used to view but not edit database data. Web Browser: To use DB2 Web Query, you must use a Web Browser that supports Java 1.1.x and has cookies and Java script enabled. Microsoft Internet Explorer V5.5, with fixpack 2, and higher, or Netscape V4.7, and higher, is supported. Planning information Packaging: Products are shipped using electronic software distribution (ESD) and are also packaged as physical media packs. These programs, when downloaded from a Web site, contain the applicable IBM license agreement and License Information (LI), if appropriate, and will be presented for acceptance at the time of installation of the program. The license and LI will be stored in a directory such as LICENSE.TXT for future reference. Installation and technical support for the products announced in this letter are provided by the Software Maintenance offering of the IBM International Passport Advantage Agreement. This fee service enhances customer productivity by providing voice and/or electronic access into the IBM support organizations. IBM includes Software Maintenance with each program acquired during the coverage period. The coverage period means the period commencing on the date you acquire the program up to the first anniversary date. The coverage period for Software Maintenance acquired in the two months preceding an anniversary date will be extended to the next applicable anniversary date.
