1 ROES SERVER General Overview and Setup Presentation will be showing ROES Server. It will be on Mac and PC (Parallels) to show a second instance of ROES Server -Turn on Hotspot network -Start Parallels ROES Server -Start Mac ROES Server -Uses Color Correction workelow (Have ROESServers launched and showing Orders Tab) This session is a general overview on the ROES Server, some of its features and how to do an initial setup. I want to quickly show you the setup and where you can Find information on the ROES Server (Show link in ROES Server logo to access roes-u.com) You can get to by clicking on the logo in the upper left corner of the ROES Server. o QuickStart - There are a couple of buttons on this page that show you some of the information we are going to cover today. o Hardware Spec - The specieication guidelines are shown on this page. The most important is to get a 64bit computer with at least 8GB of RAM. If you are going to run large prints, go for 16GB. (Show Hardware Spec and talk about Java 64 and RAM allocation)

2 Lets start with what you need to run the ROESServer ROESServer Spec - Runs on either a PC or a Mac. The rest of the spec is dependent on how much volume you will be doing. The ROESServer is very scalable and very portable. The preference is to have a 64bit machine with at least 6GB of RAM, with 8 to 12GB being the set it and forget it (Show sections of the Live ROES Server..First Five tabs. A small number of orders under the tab.) How many people here have the ROESServer? (If the number of newbies is low, we ll skip through most of the following) (Go through quick setup using roes-u.com ) First ROES Server: We are going to start with a walk through and show the fewest number of steps needed to setup a ROES Server. We won t spend very much time here. Most of you already know the setup. (Show the web page that covers all of this up on ROES- U.com Point out the red squares above the First Five tabs) These Eirst Eive tabs will let you do the initial setup. Most of you here already know what all of these screens are for. After that, we will go look at the new screens and how they work and show you a second ROES Server that is connected to the common database. (Go through quick start and Five tabs) (Go to the configuration screen on the Live ROES Server, using the gear icon)

3 ConFiguration DB, Users, Get Settings, Workstation Name Database - One of the Eirst things we want to do is pick our style of database. You may already have one setup or you may have a preference. (Again, use logo to access the website roes-u.com to show the types and connection string examples) DB Types - The ROES Server can connect to many types of Databases...SQL, MySQL, Hsql(HyperSQL). The built in one uses HyperSql. (Back to the live ROES Server) Connection String and Database Type - This is the area of the screen where you would select the Database you want to work from and Test the Connection. Checkbox - This is the Easy button ;-) So, if you want the ROES Server to do all of the work for you, and you don t want to use MySQL or MSSQL, check this box to use the internal, HSQLDB database server on this machine. You only check this box on the computer that will be hosting HSQL database. Again, don t check this box if you want to use another database type. DBName - The default database name is ProductionInfo and when using any db besides hsqldb, a database by that name must be created Eirst and a user created for use in the connection string. The user must be granted the appropriate permissions. You can use any database name you wish. (Use the Test button on Live ROES Server)

4 Workstation Name - Used to identify the workstation in a multiple ROES Server environment. Isolation - If you want to run multiple groups of ROES Server workstations on the same network, you can use the check box and name the group this workstation will be a part of. (Use the Get Settings button on webpage) You use Get Settings and Back to retrieve the settings These check boxes are used to retrieve the settings of another ROES Server. This speeds the setup of secondary stations. If I wanted to retrieve those settings, I would check the box of the settings I m interested in and use the Back button to go see them now updated. (Go to the Parallels ROES Server tabs to show the shared information) Go to the Orders tab and select an order. We can see the Orders in both ROES Servers. This coneirms we have a common connection and are path d to the same order directories. Let's go back to the coneigure screen now and show you how to set up a different user so you can set this workstation for specieic operations. There...now we have two stations setup with two completely different looks, sharing a database along with the order directories. Both of these instances are joined together in the sense they each see and know about all of the parts of an order. Single versus Multiple Workstations The default database is a File mode version of the HSQLDB and only allows one connection.

5 File mode is what is defaulted to when this ROES Server workstation fails to connect to the specieied database. Multiple Workstations - Workstations may be ganged together to process orders, render from same queue. (Go to ROESServer logged in as admin) Primary station may be the Database Server.or none of them are as it is being served up by a computer acting as the database server. Dedicated or multiple order processing stations might be used instead of using the multiplexer. There is a new RTPServer that will deal out the orders to ROES Servers in a specieic group. Secondary stations may be dedicated by operation. If we wanted to have a station dedicated as a Color Correction station, we can by setting up a user. (Log in as Color Correction User) Also, if you wanted to make one computer responsible for feeding one printer, that is possible. Secondary stations can also have ALL operations. Ability to co-exist with current v2 ROESServer. Both stations are pointed to the same Order Directories but they have different databases. This has been helpful for labs that want to setup a test v3.0 ROES Server and use production orders. (Go to DP2 Agent in Parallels) DP2 Agent - The Transitional step

6 Lets talk about using only one part of the ROES Server to feed DP2 Connects to the DP2 database Sends an order, processed in the ROESServer into DP2 Orders table populated Images table populated Subject Info tables populated Server commands executed Order Images are sent to the DP2 folder Job Eiles generated and the Order Items table is populated Many labs, currently using DP2, are starting with this Agent. There will be a session that details this. (Go to Printing tab on Mac) Other Agents - We have a lot ROES Color Correction Silver Halide printers Desktop printers Primera Interface Report generation (Go to ROES-U.com; Printing.html and show all of the printers) (Go to Live ROES Server Orders tab and show example edit) Order Editing See the Products and Options, as they were selected on the products in the order. You can Add items to the order Modify cropping Change the text Change the options

7 If all of your orders come through the ROESServer, any modieication made to the order using this feature can be pushed back to the DP2 database for an update using the DP2 Agent, using the setting in the Agent to delete the old order and recreate the edited one. So,?. Easy to setup, lots of scalable power by using multiple ROES Servers, extensible using scripting, a full stable of output interfaces and functions and all of this is included in your annual license!
