1 ONYX White Paper April 2012 Preface ONYX Thrive is a scalable RIP solution that utilizes a floating network license to allow various computers across a network to run different types of workstations included in the ONYX Thrive sofware. Job Editor is a powerful tool that can change the size, orientation, color, and appearance of your images before processing and printing in the RIP-Queue.This white paper covers installing a Job Editor Workstation, as well as highlight a few features of Job Editor. 2 Installation You can install the ONYX from either a disc or a download. The download can be found at under Products. You will be directed to download and install a utility called the Download Manager which is a pausable/resumable utility. This will download a self-extracting executable file, which means that it will unpack the install files to a location on your hard drive and then automatically run the installation. Note: This download does not include any Printer Install Files and they are not required in order to install and run a Job Editor Workstation as you can remotely connect and sync media profiles. Once you have an ONYX Thrive disc or download, you are ready to proceed with the installation. First, ensure that the USB hardware key has already been installed on the License Server computer. Next, run the downloaded file or disc to begin the installation. Read and Accept the End User License Agreement to proceed with the installation. The next window will install the Hardware Key drivers required to read the USB key and other required system files, click OK to continue. The next window is the main installation window where you can change the loction of the installation and view the installation options. Click Show Options to view the detailed installation options. Below is a description of the specific ONYX Thrive Components included in the Job Editor workstation. Once your options are configured, click Install. Job Editor Workstation includes Job Editor, Key Viewer, and the Printer Configuration Tool 2

3 Once the installtion is complete, click Finish. A message will open in your default web browser that includes information on the Windows Vista and Windows 7 settings for UAC (User Account Control) and Administrative Privileges. To run the software in an optimum environment, ensure that the Windows user login has Administrative Privileges and that the UAC (User Account Control) setting is disabled or set to Never notify. Questions regarding Administrative Privileges should be directed to your internal IT Department. The UAC (User Account Control) setting can be changed by going to: Start > Control Panel > Select Large Icons in the top right corner View by: > User Accounts > Change user account control setting (Windows 7) or Turn user account control on or off (Windows Vista) > Move the slider all the way down to Never notify (Windows 7) or Check the box to disable (Windows Vista). 3

4 If at least one printer was not installed at the main installation window, you will be prompted with the Printer Install window. Click Browse to select a Printer Install File or drag and drop your.prninst onto the window. If you do not have a Printer Install File, you will need to download one from the Printer and Profile Download Manager which can be downloaded and installed from under Drivers and Profiles. Once that program is installed, launch it from your Start menu and you will be able to select which medias to include in your Printer Install File. This is the same process to update your printer driver to the latest version, or download additional media profiles. 4

5 Printer Configuration Once your printers are installed, the Printer Configuration tool will open and you can select the connectivity type for your printers. The Printer Configuration tool can also be used to view and import new medias, add or edit custom page sizes, and view the printer properties. In addition to installing printers on the local system, you can connect to remote printers installed on other RIP stations throughout your network. To do so, go to File > Printer Manager > Add Once a printer has been added, you can click Update Media to sync all the media profiles from the RIP station. 5

6 Features Highlight In addition to sizing changes, printer and media selection, cropping, tiling, and basic color corrections, Job Editor has intuitive abilities such as viewing named spot colors, named spot color replacement, and multi-page PDF handling abilities. To view named spot colors, simply open your image into Job Editor and go to File > Job Properties > and click on the Named Colors tab. If you have a spot color in an image that you want to replace, simply open your image into Job Editor and click on the Color Correction tab, the Tools button, and then Named Color Replacements. From this window you can select the color you want to replace and then select the CMYK color to use. Note: This does not convert the color to a process color, it maintains the color as a spot color. 6

7 Job Editor has specific tools in place to handle multi-page pdf files for fast, efficient processing. You can submit each page of a multi-page pdf file to the RIP as a single job. By doing so, you can rip multiple pages at one time, as long as you are licensed for multiple RIP processes. To submit pages separately, open your multi-page PDF file into Job Editor and click on the Preview and Size tab, and then check the box to submit pages separately. You can make any other desired changes and then submit the job to the RIP. In RIP-Queue you will see each page as a separate job. ONYX Graphics Inc S.
