7 Project overview Background and Funding ARC Linkage Current Research Joint research with ETH Swiss Metadata Automation CRC 3.7 Research in Europe
8 Project Overview - Budget Funding requested (ARC): $126,000 per year Funding allocated (ARC): $70,000 per year Total Funding Available: $333,000 ARC $210,000 Partner Contribution $123,000 Research Fellow (50%) PhD Student Honorary Fellow (part-time) Research Assistant input, travel and other expenses ($10,000 per year)
9 Aim Project overview Aims and Objectives demonstrate that metadata and spatial data can be integrated within the one spatial dataset, so that when the spatial data is updated, the metadata related to that data set is also updated Objective The major outcomes of the project are development and demonstration of model driven tools for recording, updating and delivering metadata in an automated fashion.

11 Project overview - Timelines Time line of research steps Research Steps 1. Investigate and assess current metadata standards, databases and uses, focusing on future, dynamic and on-line requirements. July- Dec Jan- Jun 2. Investigate the process involved in integrating metadata and spatial data within the one file or database. 3. Investigate the concept of views to support any metadata schema at any time without changing the file or database. 4. Investigate the process involved in integrating metadata and spatial data within the one file or database. 5. Undertake pilot projects 6. Develop an integration model to integrate the management and updating of metadata and spatial data. PhD 1 - Develop methods to automate processes of metadata creation and updating through the development of pilot projects. 7. Develop prototype metadata generation capabilities (tools/software) for recording, updating and delivering metadata and spatial data in an integrated and automated manner. 8. Test and refine tools developed within pilot projects. 9. Publication and knowledge transfer strategy (including project web site)
