1 Logo and Design Standards My Partner for Learning Solutions
2 Logo and Design Standards The logo was developed and approved by a committee of employees, the board of directors and school district superintendents. This document is to be used as a guide for applying the identity correctly and consistently when creating marketing and other collateral materials. The identity is a valuable brand asset. Please refer to these standards when producing materials for your team or agency, and be sure to share these guidelines with any vendor or consultant when the logo is provided to them, to ensure consistent application of the brand. Orientation The logo was developed with only one orientation possibility. With the name treatment connected to the right of the icon the orientation must always be horizontal. Horizontal With or Without the Value Proposition? The logo can stand alone, or appear along with the value proposition My Partner for Learning Solutions. If the logo needs to be reduced in size, make sure the value propostion is never scaled down to a size where it becomes illegible. In such cases it is best to use the logo without the value proposition. However, the value proposition can be used on its own anywhere in your document. My Partner for Learning Solutions Name Treatment Due to space limitations, it may be necessary to use only the ESD 113 name treatment in your document or presentation. All of the same guidelines for using the full logo apply when using just the name treatment. 2
3 Logo and Design Standards Size The logo has been designed to hold up when reduced to a very small size. However, it is recommended that the logo go no smaller than about.75 wide (1.36 x.61 ) when used without the value proposition. Clear Space Clear space is defined as the white space around the logo. Be sure to leave some clear space around the logo so that it is always legible and clear. Our recommendation is approximately.125 of clear space. Minimum Size (1.36 x.61 ) Clear Space Fonts = Calibri Regular = Gotham Medium Value Proposition Font: Gotham Bold File Formats The logo is available in a variety of common file formats. It s important to choose the right format to get the best quality reproduction. Below are descriptions of the file formats and where they are best used. JPEG, TIF and GIF files These files are most commonly used in Microsoft TM Office programs and on the Web. For most business documents, a JPEG file will work well. EPS files EPS files are used with many graphics and illustration programs. Vector-based EPS files are appropriate for larger items like signs and banners because they can be enlarged without loosing image quality. PDF files PDF files are another common file type. They are reliable because they can be viewed by virtually anyone that has a computer. PDFs are created using a variety of software programs. 3
4 Logo and Design Standards Color Usage The logo is available in a 3-Color, a two-color and grayscale version. The following can help you determine the best mode for your purpose. Three-color logo Please use the three-color logo whenever possible and practical. However, black and grayscale logos are a good choice for documents that are otherwise black and white. The three-color logo is available in Pantone, RGB, and CMYK color modes. Two-color logo The two-color logo can be used as an alternative for the the three-color logo, when printing more than two colors is cost prohibitive. The twocolor is. My Partner for Learning Solutions Grayscale and Black and White logo Use the grayscale logo when documents are strictly black and white. The grayscale logo can sometimes become muddy with repeated copies. If possible, it s best to print from an original electronic file when using the grayscale logo. If a logo is likely to be reproduced on a copier, the black logo may be a better choice. Grayscale Black and White Pantone colors: (Pantone Matching System/PMS) Pantone colors or inks are pre-mixed colors used in offset printing and are often referred to as spot colors. Pantone is a good choice when your file will be produced by a professional printer and your document will use only 3 colors or less. The Pantone swatches shown here are the three that make up the logo. PMS 1815 Coated PMS 5473 PMS 5775 Coated Uncoated 4
5 Logo and Design Standards RGB: (red/green/blue) RGB (additive color) is the color mode used on computer monitors, television screens, the web and by some copiers/ printers. This color mode is used in many of the Microsoft Office software products and would be a good choice when using the logo in a Power Point presentation or for online graphics. The RGB swatches shown here are the three that make up the ESD 113 logo. R138 G34 B27 R0 G107 B114 R104 G120 B52 CMYK: (cyan magenta yellow black) CMYK (subtractive color) is the color mode used for offset printing. This mode is also referred to as four-color process or full-color. These colors are combined to create a broad spectrum of colors. CMYK is a good choice when your file will be produced by a professional printer in full color (4 colors or more). The CMYK swatches shown here are the three that make up the logo. 6 Logo and Design Standards Consistency It is important that the logo be used in a consistent manner. Here is a list of reminders associated with the use of the logo. TIP: When you re working in Microsoft TM Word or Power Point, a good way to ensure that you won t distort the logo is to hold down the Shift key and only pull from the corners of the image while you drag to resize, it will maintain the original proportion. Again, the identity is a valuable brand asset. It is important that it be correctly and consistently applied when creating marketing and other collateral materials for your team or agency.
