1 Canadian Cardiovascular Society Graphics Standards Manual
2 Canadian Cardiovascular Society We have developed an identity that reflects the spirit and mission of the Society. This document describes the basic elements of the CCS visual identity and is the tool to communicate our vision and to build our image in the minds of our members. By adhering to a consistent branding policy in all communications, we will ensure that the visual identity will become synonymous with the CCS. Please note that this manual lists the basic guidelines and does not cover all scenarios in all media. 2
3 Basic Elements The basic elements of our corporate identity consist of the logo, tag line, colours, typography, and imagery (photo band and graphic elements).together they build a common look and feel for the Society. This visual branding is essential in communicating the spirit and direction of our organization. The elements: Logo with tag line Colours Photo band Graphic Elements 3
4 Signatures The following illustrations show the acceptable versions of our logo. The logo and tag line should be used on most applications, however the logo may be used without the tag line on non-marketing material. The full signature with tag line is used on all advertisements. Position, size, and colour of the logo should never be modified. Always use the digital artwork which will be provided in JPEG as well as EPS formats. Acceptable signature configurations. The logo comes in four styles : a stacked version with the logo above the tet, and one-line, two-line, or three-line versions with the logo on the left. Colour: Black + PMS 185 (4 colour process breakdown: cyan: 0 + magenta: 91 + yellow: 76 + black: 0) Stacked The stacked version is unilingual, with or without the tag line. One-line The one-line version is unilingual, with or without the tag line. 4
5 Signatures (continued) Two-line logo The two-line version is bilingual, with or without the tag line. Three-line logo The three-line version is bilingual, with or without the tag line. 5
6 Minimum Clear Space We have designated the height of the flame for our unit measurement, X. The minimum clear space around the corporate signature is one X. In many applications, the corporate signature will appear with tet and photographs. It is essential to allow enough space around the corporate signature so that it is clearly visible and uncluttered by other elements. The height of the flame = X Acceptable signature configurations. 7 Minimum logo and font size Minimum sizes are measured by using point sizes.to ensure the legibility of the logo and tag line please adhere as much as possible to the following eamples. These minimum logo and signature sizes apply to the French versions as well. The main tet should never appear smaller than 8-point type.the tag line should never appear smaller than 7 point type. All logos without tag line Minimum point size: Verdana bold 8pt All logos with tag line Minimum point size for tag line: Verdana italic 7pt 7
8 Canadian Cardiovascular Society LOGOS - Size restrictions With the addition of registered trade marks to the CCS logos the minimum size restriction is 9mm. This sizing is measured using the logo, from the top to base as shown below. 9mm LOGOS - Variations with registration mark logo - no tag line logo with bilingual tag line - two line logo with unilingual tag line - one line logo with bilingual tag line - three line
9 Incorrect Applications The eamples shown reflect incorrect applications of the logo and tag line.whenever you apply the logo and corporate signatures, always use the artwork we have supplied. 10 Corporate Colours Colour assignments were provided to CCS in order to enhance and facilitate a continuum while bringing diversification in the various visual disciplines. The palette below is provided in CMYK breakdown for 4-colour process print jobs as well as RGB for Web use. Please adhere to these colour palettes as much as possible. 11 Typography Our corporate typefaces are Verdana and Gill. Although quite similar in appearance each has a purpose in creating the right look and feel. Verdana is primarily used for the actual wordmark, while Gill is assigned to all other tet applications. DO NOT substitute Verdana with Gill for the wordmark. 12 Elements 1: Photo banner We have created a photo banner to strengthen the community (or people ) aspect of the corporate identity.the photo band can be used in conjunction with other photographs, but again care must be given in order to ensure clarity and legibility. Due to layout considerations, the stationery elements do not require a photo banner. The banner may appear in full colour, as a duotone or just in greyscale. No substitution of photos inside the banner is permitted. 11
13 Elements 2: Leaf and squares The final elements that complete our image are the horizon leaf graphic and the three squares in outline form. The squares symbolize and strengthen the three elements of our tag line (leadership, knowledge, community) and represent how they intersect within the Society. The horizon leaf graphic represents the Canadian aspect of our organization. The Horizon leaf This graphic element is always in PMS 128 or in greyscale. The 3 Squares graphic This graphic element is always configured in this manner and is always outlined. The thickness of the rule is proportional to the size given but may never be thinner than a.25 pt rule 12

16 Publications CCS produces a wide range of publications of varying length and compleity. Despite their variety, each one must communicate our corporate identity clearly and consistently. The front cover should always include the corporate signature consisting of the logo and tag line. Below are suggestions for common publications. Leadership. Knowledge. Community. 19 Website templates and measuring units Main site welcome page An attempt should be made to preserve the graphic standards when producing Web-related materials. Although the corporate colours are not part of the web-safe palette, a simple conversion of these colours to RGB should suffice for the vast majority of web applications. 18
