1 Pulsar Release: 5.5 Release: Date: August 30, H.265 (HEVC) video CODEC support: H.265 video codec support has been added as an optional feature if it is present in MPEG-DASH, QuickTime/MP4/MOV container or as an elementary stream. Main and Main10 profiles of H.265 video are supported. No video conformance checks are supported for H.265 video. No GOP level video parameter checks are supported for H.265 video. Color matrix, Video format, Max buffer size and Average bitrate checks present in Sequence level video parameter checks are not supported for H.265 video. Only Field orientation check present in Picture level check is supported for H.265 video. Calculated bitrate related checks are not supported for H.265 video. In container and video essence cross-checks Bitrate, GOP type, Maximum GOP length, Maximum consecutive B-pictures and Low delay flag checks are not supported for H.265 video. 2. Netflix Photon validation support: Pulsar is now able to perform IMF package(s) validation using the Netflix Photon tool. A new check namely Netflix Photon validation has been added in Package tab of template for this. Pulsar is using Netflix Photon version Long Path support for report: Pulsar can now generate the report at a location which has path length greater than windows max path limit of 260 characters, using the Allow long path for report check present under the Reporting section of General and Adaptive bitrate templates. When using this check full file name will be considered when creating the report folder name for the job. 4. MPEG TS checks: PCR PTS Gap: A new check namely PCR PTS Gap has been added in Stream (PES Level) checks of MPEG TS to verify the gap between PCR and PTS values of PES packets. 5. MXF UL support using external file: Pulsar can now support newly registered MXF ULs without reinstalling Pulsar. For this an encrypted file will be provided, which will need to be replaced in Pulsar Controller and Pulsar Verification Unit installation directories at specified location and restart of Pulsar Controller and Pulsar Verification Unit applications will be needed after that. After this process unsupported MXF ULs will be processed by Pulsar. 6. MySQL changes: Following changes have been made in MySQL: MySQL server has been updated to latest version root user has been made password protected. MySQL server connections are allowed only from local machine on which MySQL server has been installed.

2 1. Some security enhancements have been made. 2. Enhancement has been made in Job status on Processed Job Monitor Page for file(s) having Dolby-E audio CODEC, if Dolby-E is not licensed. 3. Reporting has been enhanced for unlicensed media tracks to show them as Unlicensed in Media Attribute node present under Container Information section of Pulsar report. 1. CODEC identification issue in QuickTime/MP4/MOV file(s), which had mdat atom size as 0, has been fixed. 2. Verification unit crash, when using track layout feature by specifying audio property test tone with some specific segment start and end time, has been fixed.

3 Pulsar Release: 5.4 Release: Date: May 05, Video Parameter: Following video parameter checks have been added/enhanced: ProRes profile: A new check has been added to verify the ProRes profile present in the video stream. Video duration: Video duration check has been enhanced to verify the duration of the video stream either by providing the duration range or by providing one/multiple discrete video duration values along with respective tolerance. Color matrix: Color matrix check has been enhanced to verify presence of BT.2020 coded color matrix. 2. Video Quality: Following video quality checks have been added/enhanced: Chroma hits: Chroma hits check has been enhanced to detect the presence of Chroma lines in video frame by providing a new check for it. 3. Rapid scanning depth An option to provide the scanning depth has been added in Rapid rule sets. This feature can be used to analyze the content present in rule set source folder up to specified sub-folder depth. 4. BT.2020 color space BT.2020 color space support has been added for MOV container. When using RGB related checks BT.2020 color matrix will be used for YUV to RGB conversion, if found in the stream. 5. Embedded Line21 VBI captions Support to log and verify presence of embedded line 21 VBI captions in MPEG-2 video stream has been added. 6. Harding certificate generation Pulsar is now able to generate the Harding certificate for the stream processed through Pulsar having Harding PSE check in template. Option to generate Harding certificate has been provided in Pulsar report. 1. New JP2K ULs support has been added in MXF container. 2. Issue in configuring the outgoing server which has no authentication has been fixed. 3. Issue of improper functioning of processed job page having auto-refresh check ON, in case of large number of processed streams, has been fixed. 4. Issue in showing the track layout graph with undefined segment for some cases has been fixed. 5. Issue in processing AS-02 package with referred streams having same track ID has been fixed.

4 Release: Date: May 23, Video Quality: Following video quality check has been added/enhanced: Letter/Pillar Box Detection: An option has been provided to choose the analysis mode as either frame-wise analysis or scene-wise analysis for letter/pillar box detection. 2. Performance of video quality check for Out of order frame detection has been improved. 1. Issue of incorrect processing of Dolby-E audio track present with Undefined Sound Coding UL, in MXF container, has been fixed.

5 Pulsar Release: 5.3 Release: Date: December 07, IMF/DCP package checks. Following category of checks have been added for IMF/DCP package: Package validation: Checks present under this category can be used to validate the package structure. CPL cross checks: Checks present under this category can be used to cross check meta-data between CPL and essence. PKL cross checks: Checks present under this category can be used to cross check meta-data between PKL and essence. 2. Processing IMF/DCP package using CPL Processing of DCP/IMF package has been enhanced to process the media as specified in the Composition playlist file. 3. Video Quality. Following checks have been added/enhanced. Camera Dead Pixel Detection: A new video quality check has been added to detect the camera dead pixels present in the video frame. Chroma Hit: A new video quality check has been added to detect the Chroma hit present in the video frame. Active Region Detection: A new video quality check has been added to verify the active region in the video stream. Active Region reporting: Default reporting of active region has been removed. It has been provided as an option in template. 4K Support in PSE: Support for 4K streams has been added in PSE detection. 4. File explorer enhancement File explorer has been enhanced to show the detailed view of the files including created date, modified date and file size. User can also sort the files based on these attributes i.e. created date, modified date, size. A new option to filter the files has been added. 5. Report editing Report editing feature can be used to remove the unwanted errors/warnings from the Pulsar report. Edited report will be saved along with the original report and can be retrieved any time by clicking on the edited report icon. 6. Encrypted DCP support Support to process the encrypted DCP content has been added. The following options related to this capability have been added: Option to generate/retrieve key pair. Ability to use decryption key provided by the user in the package folder to decrypt the content. 7. Hot folder scanning depth An option to provide the scanning depth has been added in hot folder. This feature can be used to analyze the content present in hot folder up to specified sub-folder depth. 8. User defined channel layout for 5.1/7.1 channels Option to specify the 5.1/7.1 channel layout has been provided when using channel configuration option.

6 9. Silence support in track layout Option to specify silence as an audio property has been added in track layout when defining track layout segment. 10. Reporting of missing image sequence files Reporting of missing image sequence files has been added as video conformance check. When processing image sequence content, if video conformance check is enabled by user, error will be reported for the missing files. 1. Incorrect reporting of decoded video duration for some transport stream files has been fixed. 2. Verification Unit crash while aborting the job after reaching user specified max error limit has been fixed. 3. Active region calculation algorithm has been enhanced. 4. Verification Unit crash when using PSE for 4K streams has been fixed. Release: Date: February 9, Issue of not reporting of MD5 checksum for the containers other than QuickTime/MP4/MOV or MXF has been fixed. Release: Date: February 13, Added support for new JP2K UL in MXF container. Release: Date: February 21, Issue of not showing the player icon in report, for video quality errors present in IMF/DCP package has been fixed. 2. Issue of incorrect identification of IMF/DCP package has been fixed. 3. Incorrect reporting of Audio quality issues for files with surround channels if a template is created from a factory template, has been fixed.

7 Pulsar Release: 5.2 Release: Date: May 12, File Explorer Changes Java File selection applet has been replaced with Venera s own file explorer. This file explorer explores file system based on Pulsar Controller s view. So if user accesses Pulsar Web interface from a remote machine, it will still be able to see the file system on which Pulsar system is running. A new functionality of setting favorites has been provided in file explorer, using which user can set any local/network folder path as favorite and access this location directly in a single click. 2. Language Support in User Interface Korean and Japanese language support has been added for tool-tips and alert messages in user interface. User can set his/her preferred language preference. 3. Improvement Of Multi-Selection Control The User interface control for selecting multiple inputs (options), have been modified. Now user can select/unselect an option with a click, and select multiple options with greater ease. Also, for one control user can select all the options by CTRL+A. This widget has not been introduced in Rapid (rule sets) interface. 4. Custom Columns For Processed Jobs Page Option to show/hide columns on the processed job page has been added. At the bottom of grid column chooser icon can be clicked to set selected columns which will be saved for the user. 5. Pre-populated template list in processed jobs filters for template name The template names in the Template filter on processed job page will be pre populated and the user can also type the template names. 6. Sortable columns in Processed Job page All the columns displayed in processed job page grid are sortable. The report column is also sortable which sorts the data by job ID. The sorting will be done in all the data spread across the grid pages and not only the displayed records. 7. In-grid filters The filters are now specific to grid columns, and thus are displayed at top of each column. Filters will be applied simultaneously when user start typing in the filters. 8. Template Copy/Save As naming convention: When using Copy/Save As feature for templates original template name will be pre-populated. User can thereafter modify the name or try to save the template. 9. Auto Refresh of Processed Job Page: Processed jobs result will be updated dynamically on processed job page when any job is completed. User can choose whether to auto refresh the processed job page or not. 10. Video Quality Digital Hits : A new category Major Dropouts has been added in digital hits which will detect the frames which has video drop in major portion of the frame.

8 Flash Frames: A new check to detect short scene has been added. 11. Audio Quality Loudness Correction Support o Loudness correction has been supported for MPEG-1 Layer-2 audio present in below containers: a) QuickTime/MP4/MOV b) Transport Stream c) Program Stream d) MXF o Loudness correction support for PCM audio has been enhanced to GXF container. o Loudness correction summary (original audio loudness and loudness value after correction) will be displayed on the processed job page. Audio Peak o A new unit dbu has been added in Audio peaks group check. User will need to define the conversion level between dbfs and dbu to use this unit. Audio Loudness Logging o Option to log short term and momentary audio loudness values in a CSV file has been provided in audio loudness. Channel Configuration Enhancement o Single Channel per track PCM configuration support has been enhanced to be supported in GXF container also. 12. Start Time Reporting Start Time reporting has been added in Pulsar report. This will contain display time of the first video frame. It has been added in the top section of the report. 13. Job ID Reporting Reporting of the unique job ID with which stream was analyzed, has been added in the Pulsar report. It has been added in the top section of the report. 14. Custom Report Path Support in SDK An additional parameter strcustomreportpath has been added in SDK PostJob API request parameter. It is an optional field. When this field is set, it will overwrite the report path present in the template used for job posting. 15. Reporting of Audio Tracks in Correct Order Reporting of audio tracks has been enhanced to show the audio results in order of the track ID. 16. Start Time Support in GXF Start time support has been added for the streams having GXF container. 17. PDF Report Naming Convention Naming convention of the Pulsar generated pdf report has been changed. It will be created in format of PulMoDt_JobID_<File Name>.pdf, where Mo referes to month and Dt refers the date. If this name exceeds 32 characters, in that case File Name is truncated to fit inside 32 characters. 18. Media player integration in reports Media Player support has been added in Pulsar to see the erroneous video quality frames in Iris player. For this player icon will be present in Pulsar report along with the video quality error and clicking on this icon, if Iris player s installed on the machine, the erroneous region will be played in a new pop-up by launching the player. Iris player will not be part of Pulsar installer and need to be installed separately.

9 1. Incorrect error reporting FIEL atom in MOV container has been fixed. 2. Incorrect segment detection issue for some streams has been fixed. 3. I-frame only HLS playlist has been handled. Release: Date: June 27, Container: o A new check has been provided to perform baseband checks on only the active portion of essence. This option is available only for MXF and GXF containers. 1. Brightness and Horizontal black bar errors have been clubbed to report single error for continuous erroneous frames instead of reporting errors individually for every frame. 1. Issue in loading processed job page in case of some non-english characters in Filename has been fixed. Release: Date: June 30, Bug fixed to show tool-tips in the language selected by user. 10 Pulsar Release: 5.1 Release: Date: September 24, DCP package support Pulsar now supports the DCP package. Pulsar can now process the DCP packing list file to generate a single report for entire package. DCP package can be analyzed using the dedicated tab for Package in Post Job page. In Hot Folder DCP package can be analyzed by choosing the Content Structure as Package. DCP package metadata can be specified in Package tab of template. 2. MXF checks Following new checks for MXF are now available: Audio o Block Align. o Channel Status Mode. o Fixed Channel Status Data. o Channel Assignment. o Two more options have been added for Audio essence coding. Video o Stored F2 offset. o Sampled X offset. o Sampled Y offset. o Display X offset. o Display Y offset. o Display F2 offset. o Identical GOP Indicator. Index tables o Edit unit byte count. o Slice count. o One more option has been added to check Index partition location w.r.t. essence partition. Partitions o Header Metadata size in Header Partition for Header type. Miscellaneous o Dark metadata. 3. Video Quality 3:2 Pull-down detection - Pulsar can now detect 3:2 pull-down (Cadence). HD Color bar support Pulsar can now detect HD color bars. 4. Video and Container User defined checks Frame drop flag detection Pulsar can now check time code drop frame flag status for QuickTime container and MPEG-2 video. 5. Automatic PDF report generation Pulsar can now automatically generate PDF report after the analysis is completed if specified by user. User can specify this option in General as well as in Adaptive Bitrate template.

11 6. Audio Quality Detect Quasi Peak: Detect Sample Peak check has been renamed to Detect Quasi Peak. Two separate options are provided to the users for stereo and other audio streams: o Discrete Channels: When using this check, quasi peak for each channel would be calculated separately. Maximum and minimum peak violation will be checked and alerts will be reported for any violation found. o Stereo: Quasi peak for stereo audio will be calculated using the user defined mode M3 or M6. M and S violations will be checked and alerts will be reported for any violation found. Detect True peak: Detect True peak check has been enhanced to take user input for erroneous samples in either sample count or as sample percentage within each 1 second audio. If the number of samples with peak violation exceeding this sample count then an alert will be reported. 7. Cross check Video (container & essence) At least one time GOP size of video essence match the container metadata Max GOP. 1. Color bar detection algorithm has been enhanced. 2. Flash frames (out of sequence frames) detection algorithm has been enhanced. 3. Reporting of start time/time code of error has been enhanced for the MOV files having timecode track. 1. Pulsar API GetPDFReportPath failure issue, in case of Attach template information to the job report is enabled in template, has been fixed. 2. IMF and DCP package video decoding issue has been fixed. 3. Issue of unwanted error reporting of Transport stream PID specific checks has been fixed. Error for stream_type was reported even if this particular check was not specified in template. 4. Issue of incorrect start and end time reporting has been fixed in segment information. 5. Issue of failure to add the ABR streams, having unicode path, using internet explorer browser has been fixed. Apple AVC-Intra video support has been added in mov container. 1. Incorrect conformance error reporting has been fixed. 2. Partitions validity checks bugs have been fixed. 3. Dark-metadata reporting issue has been fixed. 4. Error message of Audio essence coding, low delay indicator, display Y offset has been corrected. 5. KLV fill elements after header metadata check issues have been fixed. 6. Reporting of Index table offset has been corrected. 7. Loudness correction issue in MXF container has been fixed in case channel configuration is applied along with the loudness correction. 8. alert not being sent issue, in case of Apache port change after DB import/installer upgrade, has been fixed. 9. Pulsar can now process the IMF packing list file to generate a single report for entire package. Post Job page now includes a dedicated tab for Package. Pulsar is now a native 64-bit application. 7. International file/folder names. Pulsar now supports the files containing the international special characters in the file name or the folder names. 8. Timecode tracks in MXF. User can now select the following new timecode sources for reporting under MXF tab: Material package timecode track. Source (or File) package timecode track. Content package system item. 1. Color Gamut detection algorithm has been enhanced. 2. Support of new tags added for HLS. 1. Issue of Verification Unit (VU) crash for audio-only HLS sub index files is now fixed. 2. Decoding issue for some SOWT audio streams is now fixed. 3. Issue of VU crash for DNxHD 10 bit-depth streams is now fixed. 4. Issue of JPEG-2000 streams deadlock for fast analysis mode is now fixed.

16 5. Issue of VU crash for ProRes 16-bit streams is now fixed. 6. Issue of VU entering into deadlock for channel configuration feature in audio quality is now fixed. 7. Issue of incorrect reporting of timecode values for compliance errors in MPEG-2 is now fixed. 8. Issue of Pulsar controller crash during template population is now fixed. 9. Issue of media files being downloaded in the temporary Internet explorer folder for FTP jobs is now fixed. Release: Date: July 10, 2015 Pulsar API now supports the files containing the international special characters in the file names or the folder names. 10. Parsing issue with Null GXF Map packet media file name which causing erroneous repeated track identification during analysis and subsequent crash of Pulsar is now fixed. 11. Parsing issue in GXF user data which caused crash in some GXF files is now fixed. 12. Support for MPEG-2 video fourcc xd5e added in MOV container. 13. Parsing issue in MOV container meta-data which caused failure of codec identification for some MOV files is now fixed.

17 Pulsar Release: 4.4 Release: Date: December 23, AS-02 Support Pulsar now supports the AS-02 file format. 2. Audio Quality Dual Mono Detection of identical data in Left and Right channels of a stereo pair. 3. Alert Severity 3. User can now configure the severity of various template parameters. Currently two levels Error and Warning are available. 4. User can now suppress error(s) or/and warning(s) for various Container and Video conformance errors by providing comma separated rule number. This option is available in Error Reporting section under General tab inside General template. 9. Installer a. User can now install pulsar on the basis of Edition. User will be asked to provide the Pulsar edition at the beginning of installation and the options displayed will be according to the edition. 1. Enhancement in the algorithm to detect Dead Pixels. A black bar on only the right side with a width of up to 24px will now be flagged as Dead Pixels. 2. Enhancement in Track Layout User can now define the last segment from end of the stream using the offset parameter. Sensitivity has also been added for Freeze frame video property. 1. Loudness measurement was not performed if track layout is applied in the template. Release: Date: January 15, Pulsar documents are renamed as follows: a. SDK Help.pdf to PulsarAPI.pdf. b. Loudness (integrated) will now be calculated irrespective of this selection. Key enhancements include: b. Resizable columns for various tables displayed across the interface. c. Post Job page modified to accommodate ABR URL d. Template now made mandatory for adding a job. e. Audio and Video track were not identified in GXF. 2. Crash with some MXF files containing JPEG Release: Date: November 12, MPEG-DASH Support Pulsar now supports the verification of MPEG-DASH files. Pulsar picks the playlist (.mpd) files, parses it to get the audio and video files referred by the playlist file. It then verifies each of the referred files and generates a consolidated report. User can set different templates for different encoding profiles that can be automatically assigned. 2. Video Quality Flash frame detection Detection of flash (out of sequence) frames. 3. Metadata a. Pulsar can now report an error if both CEA-608 and CEA-708 Closed Caption types are not present in the file. b. CDP check to verify the present of ccsvcinfo_section if CC data present has been added. c. Pulsar now logs the control codes for both CEA-608 and CEA-708 Closed Caption types if Log Closed Captions data is selected. 4. Proxy Support Proxy support has been added to connect to internet through proxy. Pulsar can now use proxy settings to post ABR URL jobs.
