Page II.) Setting up Panorama for the first time Making & Verifying the Connections out of the Box 1. Plug in the IEC plug and verify the power switch is turned to the on position (side with the line). 2. Plug a keyboard, mouse, and the DMX SMPTE dongle into any of the available USB ports. 3. Connect the control monitor(s) to the NVIDIA 7300 card. The first control monitor should plug into the bottom connector (4), and the second monitor (if being used) should be connected to the top one (5). This should be done before you turn on the machine. 4. Connect the outputs to the NVIDIA 7600 GT card, again the bottom connection (1) is for the first output and the top connection (2) is for the second output. If using the optional video extenders be sure to connect them and plug in their power supplies before starting the system. Things you should NEVER do with you Panorama Unit -DO NOT connect it to the Internet or a LAN. Panorama has no virus protection software and the firewall has been disabled to increase the system speed. Connecting your Panorama to the internet can cause irreversible damage. -DO NOT discharge static electricity into or near Panorama. It is a known issue that excessive static electricity can cause system failure and/or loss of signal in the DMX line connection. Turning on the Unit 1. Plug the Panorama LE unit in - preferably to its own isolated power. 2. On the back of the unit - turn on the power switch (15). 3. Wait at least 3 seconds then turn the unit on. Shutting Down the System 1. End full screen output and close all programs. 2. Click the Windows start bar and select turn off computer. 3. Turn off the power switch on the back of the unit after the system has completely shut down.

IV.) What s on the Panorama Desktop Page The Panorama Setup Utility - This utility allows for easy configuration of the system outputs, access to an onboard video converter, the option to capture video (on the LE you need to connect a video device to use this feature). There is a button for quick access to the stock content drive and buttons to launch the media engine for local or external control. 2. Recycle Bin - A windows standard of where trash goes, try and keep it empty. 3. Content Drive (D:/) - All of the stock content for Panorama is located in this drive so it can be quickly accessed. When adding content it should be stored on this drive. 4. Launch Panorama Digital Scenery - This icon will reopen the setup utility or any of the other programs on the server, including the media engine for local or external control. A brief overview of the ArKaos media engine can be found in section V. or refer to the full manual available at 5. Panorama DMX - This internal DMX console is capable of running the media server software as well as one external universe of DMX fixtures. A brief overview can be found in section VI. or the full manual can be viewed under Help on the Panorama DMX file menu. 6. The Task Bar - contains the system local connection status, the Panorama Artnet/DMX Switch (the rose icon in the system tray indicates that Panorama DMX is running properly), and the NVIDIA Advanced Settings Desktop Manager. 6

Page 5 III.) Configuring your Control Monitors & Output Displays All version 2 models of Panorama will support up to 4 displays directly - 2 for control and 2 for the outputs. It is possible to hook up additional displays with the proper equipment, but that is beyond the scope of this quick start guide.!warning! These steps should be performed when you initially power up the system, prior to starting any applications Doing otherwise can make the system unstable and may cause the system to lock. The Panorama Setup Utility has 5 buttons specifically for setting up the outputs and control monitor displays Reset All Monitors - sets both control & output monitors to be clones of each other, giving you one control and one output that each have a mirrored image. This button additionally will reset all other previously set monitor attributes. Cloned Output - sets up 2 individual control monitors and 2 outputs that are mirrored. Horizontal Span - sets up 2 individual control monitors and spans a single image horizontally across the 2 outputs. Vertical Span - same as above but the span is vertical. Advanced - will take you into the NVIDIA control panel, where you will have access to the more advanced monitor settings. Using this panel to make adjustments may cause the other display buttons to not function properly, until the Reset All Monitors button is pressed again. A stylish Panorama Background - A Panorama logo should appear in some form on all active displays upon starting the system. When running dual outputs the logo image will be split in half between them, if running four outputs, the logo will show up in one quarter of each. You can verify your display settings by right clicking on the desktop, selecting properties and then the settings tab (last one). Here you can see the monitor configuration. The output monitor will reflect a size of 1024x768 for single output. A size of 2048 x 768 for dual output and a size of 1024x1536 for dual output vertical NOTE: These steps will only work if all monitors were attached to the machine prior to starting it. If for some reason the previous steps did not work, restart you machine. After it has fully rebooted hit the Reset All Monitors button in the setup utility.

Page 6 V.) Overview of the ArKaos Media Engine More detailed instructions can be found in the ArKaos release notes & user s guide Setting up a new ArKaos file 1. Open the ArKaos Media Engine. The program will open to the last opened file, which is generally the demo file (appears below), every file contains the following sub-windows: A. Media Engine Setup Window B. Effects Window C. Preview Window D. Visuals Window E. Patch Window F. Control Selection (MIDI/Key Board/DMX) A B C D E F 2. Close the demo by clicking the New Show or Open Show button. 3. When opening a new show you will be prompted to give it a name to be saved as* *Save this file into the content drive (D:/) and it will open automatically the next time ArKaos is started. 4. Setup the output displays under Preferences Monitors 5. Use the Select your monitor pull down & select the NVIDIA GeForce card with the highest number, this will send the signal out to correct output card - which is connected to the I/O. (Primary Display Driver & NVIDIA 7600/7300 will send the signal to the control monitors) 6. Make sure Use Overlay for Multitasking is checked - click OK. 7. Import content by dragging files from the content drive into the visuals window - the program will sort them by category and assign them numbers in the order which they were placed. 8. SAVE THE FILE The file is now ready for playback via the keyboard or a DMX controller.

Page Playback in Keyboard Mode Keyboard mode is the default playback for all new files, and it is also the simplest form to use and setup. After completing all of the steps listed above in the initial setup there will be a blank keyboard. - Drag clips from the visuals window onto the keyboard, pressing the key will then trigger the clip. - Effects can also be added to the keys in the same way. Effects can be placed on keys with or without clips. - To remove a clip or effect from a key, click on the clip with the mouse its colors will invert, then hit: Ctrl+X. - To adjust the settings of a clip or an effect, double click on it once it has been placed on the keyboard. This will bring up the window of adjustment options. Show Playback/ Full Screen Mode It is recommended that before starting playback the output resolution (screen size) is set to that of the output monitors (1024x768 standard) This can be set by pressing the Set Resolution button on the setup window. Playback by default, only occurs locally in the preview screen. To send the playback to the outputs full screen mode must be started, this can be done by hitting the Start Output button on the media engine setup window. This action will take the display monitors to black and bring up a gray bar on the control monitor that signifies that the content is loading. If the control monitor goes blank Hit the End Output button - go back into Preferences Monitors and select the NVIDIA 7600 GT Card, hit OK and Start Output again. Now anytime a keyboard key is pressed the clip will play both in the preview window and on the output device. To Exit Full Screen Mode hit one of the Stop Output buttons on the media engine setup window. NOTE: Full Screen Mode must be exited in order to close the program. Playback with DMX Control DMX control is more complex than the keyboard option, but in exchange there is significantly more control and flexibility. DMX control can be run from an external DMX console or from the Panorama DMX virtual console built into Panorama. DMX control can also be run from an external console through Panorama DMX, this allows any DMX controller capable of 25 channels to run Panorama with the full fixture control. For clarity each of these options will be covered separately. For all of these choices enter the DMX setup window in the previously created file, in the File Menu go to: Preferences DMX Setup This will present the DMX setup screen. Setting up to use an external DMX console 1. Connect a DMX out from the light board to the front of the Panorama I/O. Or run a CAT5e cable between them for Artnet control. 2. Enter the DMX setup window. 3. In the first pull down select Artnet and click setup. 4. In Artnet setup check the receive only from box. 5. Enter sub-net as 0 and Universe Click OK. 7. Select a fixture mode to run. -ArKaosTiny (25 Ch) - scaled back version. -ArKaosFull (43 Ch) - standard version. -ArKaosMaxi (51 Ch) - includes 8 more channels per layer for the keystoning function. 8. Specify the first channel of DMX to be used. 9. Specify how many layers to run. 10. Select whether layers should to stack low to high(ltp) or High to low (HTP). 11. Click OK.

Page 12. To interface with the server a fixture profile is needed, certain consoles such as Hog III already have this profile in their existing library. If you do not have a profile, profiles are available for download at they are located under the driver & profiles tab. You may also create your own profile from the fixture specifications, which are also available on the Panorama website. NOTES: Channels must be sequential for all layers and the console must be patched for a 1 to 1 For details on Simple Mode refer to the ArKaos manual. Setting up to use the Panorama DMX console 1. Enter the DMX setup window. 2. In the first pull down select Artnet and click setup. 3. In Artnet setup check the receive only from box. 4. Enter sub-net as 0 and Universe Click OK. 6. Select a fixture mode to run. -ArKaosTiny (25 Ch) - scaled back version. -ArKaosFull (43 Ch) - standard version. -ArKaosMaxi (51 Ch) - includes 8 more channels per layer for the keystoning function. 7. Enter first channel of DMX to use as 1 8. Enter the number layers to be run as Select whether layers should to stack low to high (LTP) or High to low (HTP). 10. Click OK. 11. Open Panorama DMX.

Panorama Tour Version 2 Quick Start rev. 2.0 Page VI.) A brief overview of Panorama DMX Panorama DMX is made up of several windows, upon opening the program you are presented with the main board which consists of 24 submasters, an X/Y fade channel and a grand master. There are 24 preset pages for this window, they can be saved and loaded under the submaster heading in the file menu. This window also contains 6 icons and a menu bar which allow to access all of the programs other features The icons represent the following: 1. New Show 2. Open Show 3. Save Show 4. Device Manager 5. Cue List 6. Event List Creating a Show with Panorama DMX Panorama DMX works much like every other lighting console, but like every console it has its own system specifics, so below is a quick overview of how to get started. The full Panorama DMX manual can be viewed by clicking help on the Panorama DMX main window. 1. Create a new show and save it to the desktop. 2. Click on the device manager icon (gear), this is where the board patch is set. 3. In the window there will be a list of template folders on the left and 16 universes of DMX available to the right. Currently only two universes are utilized by the media server, universe #1 for external DMX devices and #16 for the internal media server. 4. To patch the media server select the universe 16 tab (top right) and drag the NEW ArKaos 3.6 Full template from channel 1 to channel 344 (or 8 layers). 5. Close the device manager window. 6. Click on the cue list icon (light) to open the cue list. 7. In the file menu select Edit Insert cue... or Hit: Ctrl+I to create a new cue, to which a number, name and description can be assigned to (shown right). 8. Click OK, it now appears in the cue list. 9. Double click on the cue number to open it, the first time a new cue is opened you will be asked to add/remove devices from the cue, add all 8 media server layers. 10. Click OK, this will open the cue window.

Page 10 Shown above is the cue window. To the left are the selected devices (8 media server layers in this case) which can be selected independently or together (hold Ctrl while selecting). To the right are the adjustments available on every layer. 11.!VERY IMPORTANT! In the file menu go to Tools and verify that ArKaos (Artnet) Interface has a check next to it. This action can be performed in any of the Panorama DMX windows. The feature is on by default but occasionally due to feedback in the start process it can disable itself. 12. In the cue window move the Pan, Tilt & Zoom sliders to 50% to center your image area. (Hint if you select a slider and hit the home key it will move to 50%. Hit PgUP for 100% and PgDn for 0%). 13. Adjust the rest of the settings (visual type, index, movie mode etc.) to create the cue that you would like. 14. When finished close the cue window 15. It isn t a bad idea to click the save button right about now, or hit: Ctrl+S, or go File Save. 16. Create additional cues in the same manner, you can view any cue at any time by double clicking its number on the cue list. (Hints you can toggle through your cue list by hitting: Ctrl + {arrow key} and Ctrl + ). Additional Cue Creation Hints -You can assign any cue created to a submaster on the main board window. Multiple submasters can be set at 100% and additionally a cue from the cue list may be selected and played simultaneously. The catch is if any of the cues playing have duplicated attributes, on layer 1 for instance, they will all double in value. For example: two cues #5 and #7 both have pan, tilt and zoom set at 50%, if they are both running at the same time in submasters or the cue list, pan, tilt, and zoom will all be at 100%. This scenario also will cause issues with the visuals, as when the selection value doubles it is impossible to predict what media will be selected. -A master cue can be created for any of the profile features, that will then apply to all other cues. This is done by creating a cue (for example) with the pan and tilt set at 50% on all layers and assigning it to a submaster. If the rest of the cues are built with pan and tilt set to 0%, the values will not be doubled and every cue played back will be centered in the image area. This works with any attribute and essentially turns the submaster into a grand master for the given function.

Page 11 -In the cue window click on layer 1, then hold down Shift and select layer 8 to quickly select all of the layers between. With multiple layers selected, any changes made will be applied to all of the layers, this will however override any previous selections. Playback through Panorama DMX via an external console If a lighting console capable of running fixture mode or 344 channels are not available, or you wish to program the media server cues internally separate from lighting, there is an answer, Panorama DMX can be triggered from ANY lighting console remotely. This requires between 24 and 47 channels and is a very simple way to build complex cues and playbacks without an advanced lighting console. The first 24 channels control the 24 submasters on Panorama DMX main board, the 25th channel is used to toggle between the 24 available pages of submasters. Channel 26 controls the Panorama DMX grand master, the X-Y crossfaders and channels control the Panorama DMX automation and transport controls for the event list. The specific details on the fixture profile and Panorama DMX input controls can be found in Appendix A of the manual located under the help menu in the main window. DMX Input Setup 1. Create the cues in the Panorama DMX and assign them to the submasters on the main board. 2. Connect a lighting console DMX out to Panorama. 3. On the main board File Menu Select: Submasters DMX Input This brings up the input settings window. Specify what channel to start on and which features to activate. 5. Click OK. 6. Patch the lighting console at 1 to The Panorama DMX faders will now mimic the channels of the external lighting console. Show Playback with Panorama DMX With Panorama DMX there are multiple playback options; simply clicking or toggling through cues on the cue list, assigning cues to the submasters and X-Y fader and then there is the event list which within itself has three playback choices. In the event list you can choose to playback a show via the internal SMPTE timecode, an external SMPTE timecode source or with the step mode which equates to pressing the space bar (go button) to advance to the next cue. Below is a sample event list. There are 4 event list tabs in the timecode options you are able to run all 4 lists at once, list can be disabled by the disable check box. In the event list you can add events by right clicking, using the edit menu, or hitting: Ctrl+I. All events must be given a time regardless of what mode you plan to play them back with. NOTE! when adding fade times the time between events needs to be longer than the transition. On the actual list the circle represents the cue currently playing and the arrow

Page 12 represents the next cue to play. In step mode you can change the next cue selected to play by double clicking with the mouse in the grey area next to the time. General Information Notes & Hints about the Event list -When you initially add an event it will appear as a time followed by blank entries. Enter the cue number by clicking on the 0, and the cue name will fill in automatically. -Time, Fade and Cue fields in the event list can be changed by clicking on them at any time. -You can split fade times by right clicking on them and selecting split fade. -The cue list cannot be entered once the event list has started playing. To exit or stop the event list hit the stop button, disable the list and hit the Escape key. Internal Timecode -In internal mode the start time can be set by clicking the time box in the upper right hand corner. -You can jump to any cue time by hitting the stop button, double clicking next to the time and pressing play. -Event lists can be looped by highlighting events, right clicking, and selecting loop (see the manual for details). -In both timecode modes all event lists will play unless they are disabled. External Timecode -External timecode will only work if there is a timecode source available and the play button is pressed. -When running timecode externally the cues and events will only play as ordered.
