3 In this section you will find practice functional skills questions for Information and Communication Technology (ICT). These questions will help you prepare for your functional skills assessment as the types of questions included are similar to the ones you are likely to find in your assessment. The questions are based on scenarios you may encounter in your day-to-day job to make them more relevant to you. 1

4 LEVEL 2 FUNCTIONAL SKILLS INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY Background SnapBargains is a shop that sells cut price goods. The Manager, Maxine Smart, wants a presentation for staff about the key points of the Sale of Goods Act. Your task is to find information about the Sale of Goods Act use a spreadsheet to analyse data about complaints produce a presentation for new staff. Getting started The data files folder in your user area contains all the files you need for this task. These are: ResponsesBML2 ContactBML2 ConsumerBML2 ImagesBML2 Mark allocation The marks for the test will be allocated as follows. Section A Task 1 6 marks Section B Complete ALL tasks. Task 2 Task 3 20 marks 16 marks Task 4 4 marks Task 5 4 marks TOTAL Section B covers Tasks 2 5 in the test. SECTION A You may use the Internet for this section only. Sale of Goods Act 50 marks Maxine needs some information about the Sale of Goods Act for the presentation to staff. Open the document ResponsesBML2. Enter your name. 2

5 (a) Use an Internet search engine to find the date of the Sale of Goods Act. 4 Show how you did this by completing ResponsesBML2 with: a screenshot of the search engine and keywords you typed in to find the date the date the full website address (URL) that you used. (b) Use an Internet search engine to find out what consumers expect their goods 2 to be under the terms of the Sale of Goods Act. Show how you did this by completing ResponsesBML2 with: the results of your search the full website address (URL) that you used. Resave the file ResponsesBML2 for use in Section B, Task 3. A printout of the document ResponsesBML2 showing the screenshots and the results of your searches. Make sure your name is on the printout. SECTION B You must not use the Internet from this point onwards. [Total for Task 1 is 6 marks] Task 2 The file ContactBML2 shows the number of customer service complaints received by SnapBargains in the last year. The data for December has not yet been entered. 3 (a) Open the file ContactBML2. Enter your name in the footer. 6 Enter the data on to the spreadsheet (b) Use a formula to calculate: 3 the total contacts for each month the total contacts by category. (c) Use a formula in Column O to calculate each Type of contact as a percentage 4 of the total of all customer service contacts. Format the data in Column O to 2 decimal points. A printout of your spreadsheet showing the formulae you used. Make sure your name is on the printout. Resave the file. (d) Use formatting features to make the information clear and easy to read. 2 (e) Sort the data in ascending order of Total contacts by category. 2 A printout of your spreadsheet showing the data. (f) Create a chart to display the total contacts by category for SnapBargains for Make sure the chart is labelled clearly and easy to understand. Save the chart as a separate sheet. Task 3: Produce a presentation [Total for Task 2 is 20 marks] Maxine wants a presentation for the staff about consumer rights under the Sale of Goods Act. 16 The presentation must: have four slides be clear and easy to read be consistent be fit for purpose and audience. 4

7 It must include: the company logo from ImagesBML2 the text from ConsumerBML2 the date of the Sale of Goods Act from Section A, Task 1 the chart from Section B, Task 2(f) on slide 2 a suitable image on slides 3 and 4 selected from ImagesBML2. (a) Create the presentation. (b) Add your own text to slide 2 to explain the chart. (c) Enter your name in the footer. (d) Save the presentation with a meaningful file name. A printout of your presentation with two slides per page. Make sure your name is on the printout.
