1 The Application Process Applications to open the week beginning Monday 16th February The application process for Project New Horizons is managed by the British Exploring Society. All related information needs to be sent direct to us and any problems encountered with the application system should be addressed to us. If you as Young Person or Key Worker want to discuss whether Project New Horizons is right for you/your referral or you have any issues related to Catch 22, please contact Chloe Moul at Catch ). Before Applying Read the Explorer Information Pack carefully with your Key Worker to make sure you understand what you are signing up for. This is a legal requirement and you will be asked on your application form to confirm you have read it. If you are under 18 years of age, your legal guardian must also read the information pack and will be asked to confirm their consent based on this. The Explorers Information Pack will be sent to your Service by , or can be downloaded from our website (click here). STAGE ONE Young person fills in an online application form and their Key Worker submits an online referral to complete the application process. Step 1: Visit the British Exploring website, and click to register with your name and address. If you do not have a working address already, you will need to set one up. This is essential in order for you to apply for the programme and to be able to receive information from us regarding your application and participation. Please note that our application system works best with internet browsers Google Chrome or Firefox. If you are using Internet Explorer, make sure it is version 8 or above. You will then be asked to enter your name and contact details, and set a username and password - make sure these are memorable, as you will need to log in again at a later stage.

We suggest using your address as your username so it is easy to remember. Find the Dangoor Next Generation, Project New Horizons Page Hover over the Explore with Us, then Programmes and click on Dangoor Next Generation Programme See below Click on Apply Now. You can also download the Explorer Information Pack here if you haven t been given it already. Step 2: Complete the online application form. The form is split into several pages; it is a long application but we try to capture as much information in one go as possible. You can save and exit and complete it over sessions if it better suits. So that you have all the right information with you when you sit down to apply, here is an overview of what the question form will ask for; Your Catch 22 Service details, your date of birth, what you are doing now, information about your current passport status, dietary requirements and swimming ability, clothing sizes and details of your legal guardian if you are under 18 years of age. If you currently have a valid passport, please have it with you when completing the form so that you can enter information and upload a clear picture of the photo page A written personal statement (max 200 words) detailing why you want to attend PNH 2015; what you want to get out of it and why your think you will make a good Explorer An overview of your current physical and mental health More detailed medical questions The above 2 sections include some detailed personal questions; these are not designed to discriminate or discount your application but to help us ensure that you are able to safely participate in the programme and what support we may

Your application will be in your personal portal area; click Edit Stage to continue Step 3: Once the British Exploring office have received a completed online application, they will contact the Key Worker of the applicant via and give them a link to complete a referral form. This is a Google form and is not on the British Exploring website. Please note the to the Key Worker is not an automated process, so please do not worry if it does not come through straight away. Step 4: The Key Worker completes the Referral Form online using the link sent to them and submits. The application will then be put forward to the shortlisting days, due to take place in the week beginning 20th April. If you need to renew your passport or apply for your first one, please begin this process now. See for details. The deadline for applications (which must include both an application and referral form) is Monday 20th April. Whilst the application process is not competitive, please submit your

4 applications as early as possible. This will give us time to answer any queries or contact Key Workers for clarification where necessary. We will endeavour to notify all Key Workers/applicants of their application outcome by 1st May. Applications needing follow ups with Key Workers or Doctors may take longer to process. Key Workers: Please make sure a meeting is booked between you and your referral early in the week beginning May 4th so that you can act on the outcome of their application. Acceptance onto the Programme requires paperwork needing urgent action. If you are on leave, please find a suitable replacement. What Happens Next Applicants who are unsuccessful this time around will be notified via their Key Worker. Please note that we receive a large volume of applications for the Programme and feedback in the first instance may not be possible. Information regarding our selection procedure is available in the Explorer Information Pack and on the referral forms. Where requested, we will do our best to provide more detailed feedback. If the applicant is accepted onto the first phase of the Programme, they (and their Key Worker) will receive confirmation, with information regarding the next steps. STAGE TWO The acceptance/invitation will include the following (and will require further action from the applicants): Joining Instructions for the May Induction Weekend Instructions on how to confirm their place Step 1: Log back into your account on the British Exploring website (where the application was made). If you have forgotten your login details please ring Click on Edit Application of your application form and answer the questions to confirm your attendance and mode of travel. Press submit. Step 2: Upon submitting the form, the applicant will move onto the next stage of their application Documents Required, where they will be required to download and upload documents necessary for the attendance at the Induction Weekend. UNDER 18 DOCUMENTS requires signing by young person and their Guardian o Declaration of guardian consent o Media Consent (signed by both guardian and young person) o Release of Medical Information consent (one sheet signed by guardian and one by the applicant)

PLEASE NOTE you can only upload one file into each upload field, so for documents with more than one page, you will need to scan them in as one pack or make sure each page is merged together into one file. If your files are individual PDFs, then you can use a free PDF merge tool online You can save and exit if you need to do one or two documents at a time Press submit once you have uploaded all paperwork Step 3: In your portal area of the website, please input the details of two Emergency Contacts, by pressing New Connection for each individual. This stage must be completed by Monday 11th May
