3 Intelligent Mail Evolution In 2009, USPS started offering two Intelligent Mail options for automation discounts Basic Intelligent Mail Full-Service Intelligent Mail Both required implementing Intelligent Mail Barcode (IMb)

4 Intelligent Mail Evolution May 2011 was to be the date that IMb would be required POSTPONED January 28, 2013 USPS retired POSTNET barcode for automation price eligibility POSTNET was replaced with Basic Intelligent mail requiring IMb for continued postal automation discounts
