1 AR/STAR ONLINE TUTORIAL (8/2015) There is a help menu and a link for an online manual along the top bar or the headset for Live Help. You can also call RenPlace directly for support ( ). Please contact Maureen Hosinski (mhosinski@sbcsc.k12.in.us) to add additional teachers. Each teacher needs to set up their own class & run their own reports. Logging in: As a Teacher: Click I m a teacher and log in with your special AR Username & Password These usernames and passwords vary by school If you can t remember your username and password, either check with your AR building support person or Maureen Hosinski- mhosinski@sbcsc.k12.in.us Note: After logging in, if the My Settings page opens, one of two things has happened. Either your system administrator wants you to change your password for security reasons or you haven t changed it in a year and the software requires it. Be sure to enter your address and security questions on the My Settings page so that you can reset your password if you forget it or retrieve a forgotten user name. As a Student: At the web site: click I m a Student These user names and passwords vary depending on who set them up. Recommendation: Set up new students with their first name and ID #- User Name: first name ID# - - for example William12345 (no space) Password: enter the just the ID, for example: *If you ve forgotten the student login, click forgot user name and try to search by their name. Student accounts can be locked if you try to log in several times with the wrong password. 1

2 Teacher: When you log in, Use the Home Page Note the programs and suites on the Home page. These are the Renaissance Place programs that you have available. To see the links available for a product, click the product name or click one of the panels under a suite. Clicking a link for one of the products takes you to that feature in the selected product. Student: Home (STAR Reading won t show if school doesn t have a license): The student will either click on Accelerated Reader then search for a title, author or quiz number (quickest), or the Student will click on Star Reading and Take a Test (if your school subscribed for STAR Reading.) 2. SETTING UP YOUR CLASSES Log in as a teacher a) On the Home page, click Courses and Classes. b) Courses must be added before you can add the classes in which you will enroll students. Courses are programs of study. It might be done for you already. c) If you see a course listed as reading already, go on to number 3. If not to add a course: click Add Course, enter the information, and click Save (or Save and Add to add another). d) After you add a course, you can add its classes. On the course page (which you see after clicking the course name), click Add Class. On the Add Class page, enter the class name, choose a primary teacher, and choose the marking period that shows the duration of the class. Next, check the products that the class will use. Students in the class can only use the products that you choose. 3. TO ENROLL STUDENTS IN THE CLASS, a) Click the blue Add Students, then search for students, check the boxes next to the students you want to enroll, and click Add. At the bottom of each screen, click the arrow to go to the next screen, repeat. It is important to add the students that you click on each screen before you go to the next. 2

3 b) When you ve added all the students, Save on the Add Class page to finish adding the class. C. IF ONE OF YOUR STUDENTS IS NOT LISTED --HOW YOU ADD A STUDENT: If a student were not listed, then you would click on Home link (top left) On the Home page, click Users Click Add Student: Fill in the First Name, Last Name, the Username should be: FirstNameID such as Paul The Password is the ID number (no leading zero), confirm password by typing the ID again, then enter the ID number in the box for the ID. Select the correct grade level with the drop-down menu. None of the other blanks need to be completed. Click SAVE or SAVE. IMPORTANT NEXT STEP: NOTE: If you added a student to the school, you ll need to add that student to your class via the Class Enrollment Tab Click your Course (should be a in blue indicating a link). Find you class name, click it and SAVE. OR 3

4 a) On the Home page, click Courses and Classes. b) Select the course (typically called Reading) c) Find you class and look to the right for options d) On the right click the blue: Add/Remove students e) Use the search box (click search after you type), check box, add, and save! 3. IF YOU MUST MAKE CHANGES TO THE STUDENT S NAME, ID, CHANGE GRADE, CHANGE ENROLLMENT, etc. From Home Page, click on Users, and then click View Students Search for the student whose name is incorrectly spelled or wrong ID, etc. When the name appears, click on the name (that is a link) If you need to make changes to the student s name click Details Tab at top be sure that if corrections need to be made to the first name, that the username is corrected also If you need to unenroll the student click Class Enrollment tab-and select blue unenroll 4. Reports A. To Run AR Reports: On the Home Page, click on Accelerated Reader, choose reports Click Reading Practice then under Report click Diagnostic Reading Practice Customize to your needs and click View Report There are other reports you can run as well B. If you have STAR READER -- Run Star Reader reports: On the Home Page, drag down on STAR Reading drop-down menu to Reports Choose the frequently used report or your choice usually Diagnostic or Test Record 5. To Search for AR Quizzes & Preview Quizzes On the Home Page, drag down on Accelerated Reader to Manage Quizzes 4

5 Click on Reading Practice Drag down on the pull-down menu Title Starts With or quiz number, type in the title or quiz number search for quiz To review a quiz: click on Select (under Actions) Click Take a Sample Quiz 6. Modifying a Student s Record in Accelerated Reader On Home page, click on Accelerated Reader to click Record Books and Goals Click on Reading Practice Quizzes Click on the Student s name, and then you can either add, edit, or delete records. 7. If you have STAR Reading -- To give students extra time and change IRL: On the Home Page, click Star Reading to click Preferences Under Student Preferences, click Edit, then it allows you to give extended test time or to enter an estimated Instructional Reading Level. Where would I find STAR Student Test deactivation? Although you cannot permanently delete a STAR Reading test from a student's test record, you can deactivate a test. Deactivating a test removes the test-taking data and the test results from any reports or calculations for that student. If necessary, a deactivated test can be reactivated again at a later time. Only school administrators and district administrators can deactivate and reactivate STAR Reading tests. Maureen Hosinski or your building AR person to help you. 5
