Each missionary gets assigned a unique address which is to be used to reach his/her page. The missionary pages group all the missionary information: letters, photos, highlights and more. 17 Missionary Home Page Figure 8: Web Public Missionary Site Each missionary has his/her personal area at MyMission.com. The first page you access for the missionary is the Home page. This page features key information about the missionary: name, photo, mission, mission language, MTC entry date, expected release date, current area, address, favorite scripture. If you are a missionary admin, you will see an Edit button which you can click to access a page where you can edit this information. To the left of the page you will find links to other missionary pages: letters, pictures, slideshow, map, highlights and guestbook. If you are an admin for the missionary, you will also see the link to the Missionary Admin. The left column can also display a clock with the missionary time, if it was enabled at the Missionary Admin >> Clock page, and it has widgets showing the mission progress, how long the missionary has been in the mission field. The missionary home page displays general missionary information, giving a quick snapshot of the mission he or she is serving. This includes: the missionary profile picture missionary full name Web User's Guide - Page 11 of 57

18 name of the mission spoken language current area where the missionary is located MTC entry date expected release date mission home address missionary current address favorite scripture The missionary admins can see an Edit button, which gives direct access to edit the missionary profile information. 23 Letters The letters are the s each missionary sends home. This feature allows you to easily publish and share these letters with the rest of the family and friends, who can visit the site and read them. It is also possible to load the letters sent by family to the missionary. The letters page initially shows a list of the loaded letters, from newest to oldest. When you click on a letter, you see the letter in full detail, including any associated photos. The PDF button allows you to generate a PDF document including the letters and its associated photos. This is a very nice document about the mission. The missionary admins also view buttons to add and edit letters. When you load a letter, you re asked for the following: Whether the letter is published or not. Unpublished letters are only visible by the missionary admins. Whether the letter is from the missionary, to the missionary, or other (this last option, for example, if you re loading a letter of a missionary companion which also tells interesting facts about the missionary) Visibility. This defines who can see the letter: Personal (only missionary and admins can see it) Family (only users who have a family relationship with the missionary) Friends (only users who have a relationship with the missionary, either family or friends) Organization (users who are members of the same organizations as the missionary can see the letter) Users (any logged in user can see the letter) Public (anyone can see the letter, this is the only option that allows non logged Web User's Guide - Page 17 of 57

24 in visitors to see the letter) The date of the letter The area where the missionary is serving at the time of the letter The name of the missionary companion at the time of the letter The section to which this letter is associated. You first define Sections in the Missionary Admin, then you can select one of the previously defined sections to associate the letter to it. Sections provide a way to organize the missionary information. The most common way to use sections is to create a section for each location where the missionary serves. The letter title, or subject The letter text, the body of the letter. If you have scanned the letter you can select the file from your computer to upload it. Alternatively, you can have the system automatically generate a file that looks like a scanned . If you would like to do this, use the Edit Original button to fill in the information. This allows you to save the unedited text, exactly as written by the missionary, in the Original information, but edit the letter body that is displayed on the site. You can select missionary photos and associate them with the letter. At this point you re ready to save the letter. You can save and edit the letter as many times as needed, and only mark it as Published once you've edited and corrected it. There is a section below the main letter form, that allows you to send notifications to a list of contacts about a new letter. You load the list of contacts in the Missionary Admin, in the Notifications page. Notifications are only sent to contacts in this list which are marked as On. This section also allows you to publish the letter notification to Facebook profiles. In order to send notification, you can enter a descriptive text, which will be used in the or in the Facebook post. Then if you would like to send s to notification list contacts, you check the Send box. If you would like to Publish to Facebook, you check the Publish to Facebook box and verify that the Facebook profiles to which you want to publish are set to On. When you click Submit button, the letter is saved and any notification actions you may have Web User's Guide - Page 18 of 57

25 selected are performed. Note about publishing to Facebook It may happen that you select publish to Facebook and the post doesn t show up on the corresponding Facebook wall. If this is the case, it means that the person has spent a long time without logging in to MyMission.com with Facebook, or maybe the person has changed his Facebook password, in which case Facebook will require the person to login to MyMission.com with Facebook again, before any posts can be published to his wall. So the solution to this issue, is to have the person login to MyMission.com with Facebook, and then try to publish the letter again. Automatically load letters by Each missionary gets assigned a MyMission.com address. You can check which address is assigned to a given missionary at the Missionary Admin, in the Settings page. labeled AutoPost letters. If AutoPost is checked, enabled, any sent to this address will be processed and loaded as a letter. Attached images will be processed, saved and associated to the letter. The letter is saved Not Published, so you have a chance to review, edit it or delete it, before it can be viewed by others. AutoPost allows you to avoid having to type a letter entirely. Just ask the missionary to copy his/her s to this MyMission.com address, and then all you will need to do is edit them and mark them as published. AutoPost checks the mailboxes periodically and processes any pending s. If you would like to force an immediate review of the missionary mailbox, you can use the Process Now button at Settings page. If you would like to change the address which was automatically assigned to the missionary, you can use the Change Address button. If desired, you can turn off AutoPost by unchecking it at Missionary Admin >> Settings page. Web User's Guide - Page 19 of 57

49 Ecards MyMission.com allows to send ecards to the missionaries. For each ecard, you select the card design, type a text, your name and , and the card gets sent to the missionary church , attached to the as a pdf, so the missionary can see it. To access the ecard page, you append /ecard to the missionary home page. For example, if the missionary home page is the ecard page for this missionary will be You can share this address with contacts using the Missionary Admin >> Notification page. You can create a message including the {ecard_link} replacement. When you send this message to contacts, the {ecard_link} text will be replaced with the actual link to the missionary ecards page. 55 This page allows to edit the missionary profile information, including the church address, the missionary profile picture and much more. You can also access this form by using the Edit button in the missionary home page. The membership page allows to see the organizations the missionary is member of. It is also possible to search for organizations and request membership. Organizations can be seminaries, missions, etc. Once the organization approves the missionary as a member, the membership is listed on this page. Being member of an organization allows the organization to include the missionary syndicated photos in its slideshows, for example. So if you would like the photos featured on the seminary's slideshows, for example, the first step is to become a member. When other users or organizations (e.g. seminaries or missions) would like to establish some relationship with the missionary, the request is listed here. Each request can be approved or rejected. Approving a request establishes the relationship. This page shows the relationships the missionary has with other MyMission.com users. It is also possible to search for users and request to establish a relationship with them. This will show in the Requests page of the other user, so the other user can approve or reject it. The relationships can be: Spouse Parent Sibling Child Family Schoolmate Teammate Web User's Guide - Page 49 of 57

56 Coworker Friend Friend of family Neighbor Business relationship These relationships are used, for example, when you set visibility for letter or photos. If you set a photo to be visible by Family, then it will only be visible by MyMission.com users who have any of these relationships with the missionary: spouse, parent, sibling, child or family. This provides quick access to Add photos form. The form is also accessible from the Pictures page, using the Add Photos button. This provides quick access to the Letters page where you can see all letters listed and work on them. This will provide quick access to the Add Highlight form. This page is organized in tabs. The first one, Contacts, allows you to keep a list of contacts, people names and s, assigning a classification to each person by setting the relationship. You can also turn each contact On or Off, to temporary disable a contact without having to delete it. The second tab, Messages, allows you to type messages that then you can send to contacts. When you click on the Add Message button, you see a form to type a new message, entering the following: The message Name, to internally identify the message The message Subject, which will be the subject Web User's Guide - Page 50 of 57

57 The message Body, which will be the body. You can include some replacements in the body, which get replaced at the moment the message is sent. The possible replacements and their explanations are listed below the box to type the body. Some of these replacements are: {firstname} : the first name of the person to whom the is being sent {lastname} : the last name of the person to whom the is being sent { } : the address of the person to whom the is being sent So for example if you type Dear {firstname}, when the message is being sent to Laura Smith, the line will read Dear Laura, and when it is being sent to Paul Jones, it will read Dear Paul, Please remember to click the Submit button at bottom of the form to save the message. In order to edit or delete previously saved messages, just click on a message in the list, in the Messages tab. The last tab, Send Message, allows you to send one of the previously saved messages to all or some of the contacts in the list. Just select the message in the first drop down. In the second one, select the relationship or All. If you would like to only send the message to contacts marked as Friend, select Friend from the list. In any case, only contacts marked as On will be considered. If you would only like to test how the message will look, enter an address (e.g. myself@example.com) in the box labeled Only Test to. If an address is entered in this box, the message is just sent to this address and not to any contacts. The contacts in the list can also be notified of new letters, as described in the Letters area. 58 This page allows you to configure the clock widget that is displayed in the left column of the missionary pages. The first setting lets you turn the clock on or off, so you can turn it off if you would prefer not to display the clock at all. The next setting is the optional clock title, which, if entered, will be displayed above the clock. The Display setting defines whether to show only one big clock set to the missionary timezone, or two smaller clocks, where one is set to the missionary timezone, and the other displays the visitor local time. If you choose to display two clocks, you ll then have two sections to configure them: Local Clock and Missionary Clock. Alternatively, if you display only one clock, you ll only see the Missionary Clock area. For any clock, you can select a style, a background image and a flag to display inside the clock. For the Missionary Clock, you can also type a label to display below the clock, which may be for example the country where the missionary is, or the missionary name. In fact you can type any text you would like to appear below the clock. Please remember to click on the Submit button to save your changes. The Settings page allows you to configure some aspects of the missionary pages: The missionary URL. This is for example elderjohnsmith if you access the missionary page using You can change the missionary URL if for some reason it got created with a text you don t like, but we suggest don t making changes to this often. Only change if needed. Days to Return lets you display the days till the missionary returns instead of the days in the mission field in the corresponding left column widget. AutoPost Letters is the feature to automatically process s sent to this special address and load them as letters. The letters are marked not published, so you have a chance to review them and mark them as published only when they re ready. You can Web User's Guide - Page 52 of 57

59 see the address to which the s need to be sent to use this feature. If you would prefer to disable AutoPost completely, then you just uncheck the box. The Change Address button allows you to change the address that is used for AutoPost for this missionary. AutoPost checks the special addresses at predefined intervals and processes any pending s. If for some reason you would like to force an immediate processing of any pending messages, you can use the Process s Now button. The Require Password to View setting lets you mark areas of the missionary pages that can only be accessed by logged in users. Site Managers allows you to enable other MyMission.com users to also act as admins for this missionary. Please be very careful when using this feature, since any user you enable as an admin can work on all the missionary data. To add users, start typing the user name in the box and select it from the typeahead list. To remove users from the list, click on the delete icon for the user. Facebook Profiles allows you to select the Facebook profiles to which letters can be published. Adding and removing Facebook profiles from the list works same as the Site Managers list. The Facebook Profiles are users who have logged in to MyMission.com using their Facebook account. An important fact to consider, is that MyMission.com can only publish to a profile if the user has logged in to MyMission.com with Facebook in the last 60 days. After 60 days, MyMission.com cannot publish to that Facebook profile until the user logs in to MyMission.com using Facebook again. If you notice that publishing to a Facebook profile doesn't work, the first action is to have that person login to MyMission.com using Facebook, and then try again. The last setting is Sections. Sections provide you a way to classify and organize the missionary information. The most common way to use sections is to create a section for each location where the missionary is during his mission. If you don t want to use sections, uncheck the Sections box. If you want to use them, just ensure the box is checked. To add sections, use the Add Section button. A popup will open where you can enter a name for the section, and an address if the section represents a physical location. There are also textboxes to enter latitude and longitude in decimal format. If you leave them blank, but Web User's Guide - Page 53 of 57

60 entered an address, the system will automatically try to find the latitude and longitude for the location. Afterwards, you can edit the automatically loaded values if needed. The latitude and longitude are used to mark the sections in a map. Web User's Guide - Page 54 of 57

61 Chapter 4 My Account So far we've been explaining how to create and manage the missionary pages. Now we'll describe how to manage your own user data. You do this in the My Account area. You'll find the My Account link at the top right area of the page. The My Account area has several icons, each one giving access to manage on specific information.
