3 Chapter 1: Introduction General Description The Discover Video is a software system that accepts live audio/video inputs and encodes the input into a live stream, a file, or both. The source of the live video may be a local video capture device (e.g. Captiva PCIe card or USB dongle), a live stream, or a Videoconference session delivered via Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). operates as a service on a Windows computer. This means that it will resume operation after a computer reboot, and does not need to be launched as an application. The capacity of depends on the host computer. Typically, you can support up to six standard definition inputs and up to four HD inputs. However, the capacity depends on output settings such as output frame rate and resolution settings. You can achieve a density of eight simultaneous live channels with carefully crafted settings. Each channel can support multiple bit rates. You may stream your live video at any number of bit rates simultaneously, up to the system capacity. Page 3

4 Chapter 2: Configuration Installation To install or re-install, run the installation program. must be registered (licensed) using a local license. Prior to registration, will appear in red and will operate in Demo mode, inserting a watermark image in all output videos. After installation, start the manager. Select License, and copy and send the provided User Key to Discover Video. Discover Video will provide a Activation Key which you must paste into as shown above. Page 4

5 Getting Started Launch the Manager interface, illustrated below. Select Create to create your first channel. Enter a convenient name for your channel. This has no function but will help you later identify your channel. If you wish to enable logging (for later troubleshooting) set a path for the log files and set the maximum log file size. To disable logging, set the size to 0. Next, select the type of input. Capture Device selection is illustrated here. Page 5

6 Select the video dropdown list to show all available capture devices. Do the same for audio. In most cases, the video capture device will auto-detect the input type. However, you may select the "..." next to the input selection to access the native device settings of the capture device. For the video and audio quality, select the input type desired. The audio devices may or may not be populated depending on the capture device. If there are multiple inputs possible, you will need to use care in selecting the right one. For example, "Card 1, input1" and "Card 2, input 1". Do not worry if you get it wrong, you can edit this later. Next, select Input Resize and Cropping. In most cases, you can ignore this setting and move to Next. Select the Output Type. RTMP Stream is illustrated. Page 6

7 Set H264 Encoder values. Width & Height -- in most cases, select 16:9 sizes such as 640W x 360H, 1280W x 720H. Note: the output size selected will make a big difference in CPU utilization. If your CPU is too high you can lower the resolution to get more channels. Framerate -- normally 15, 20, 25, or 30 Bitrate -- normally 500 to 3000 K-Frame Period -- Key Frame (or I-Frame) period. Normally set to same as framerate (e.g. 30). Quality -- normally should be set to 1 or 2. Higher values use more CPU. Audio Bit Rate -- normally 32, 64, 128, 256, 384 Audio Sample Rate -- normally Channel Mode -- normally Stereo Turn Off Video / Turn Off Audio -- allows you to stream only video or only audio. Not supported for all input types. Next, set RTMP push server and streaname. If the server requires authentication, enter username and password. Page 7

8 The last setting shows where the channel XML file will be saved. You can set the path as desired but in most cases the default should be used. Input Status - Stopped, Started Input Source Input Preview Input Size When you select Finish the channel will start. Output Size, Frame Rate, Bit Rate, Server, Stream Name Edit Settings Right-Click on any channel to edit settings. You and edit the input and output settings, add a new output, or remote an output. When you add an output, it will have a unique name and it may be another RTMP stream or a file capture. Each output has a unique name (which you may set yourself rather than using the automatically-generated name). When you edit an output, you must select the one you wish to edit. You may also remove any output. You may also double-click on any channel to open the channel XML, or use the "Open Channel XML" to edit the file directly. Most of the settings in the XML are obvious. 9 File Output Settings When creating a file output, the screen below is presented. Output Folder -- the folder when the recording will be saved. Output Filename -- the name of the output file. If multiple files are to be created, then this is the base filename. Duration -- The length in seconds for each file that will be recorded. Max Files for cyclick record -- the number of files that will be retained when recording long duration. For example, the configuration illustrated will record 15 files, each one minute duration. After the 15th file, the first file will be overwritten to maintain 15 files. During recording, a progress bar will update. Each file will have the base filename plus "_YYYY_MM_DD_NN_SS.mp4". For example, "mychannel.mp4" becomes "mychannel_2016_02_15_09_00_00.mp4". Upload After Record Enter a FTP server, username, password, can optionally the remote folder and filename. If Upload After Record is checked, then each file will be uploaded to the server automatically. If you select "Delete After Upload", then the recorded file on the computer will be deleted (to preserve disk space) after a successful upload. Page 9

10 Stream Input supports MPEG-2 Transport Stream and MPEG-2 Elementary Stream input. Set the IP Multicast address and port for the input. If a unicast stream is directed at the IP of the, then set the IP address to the IP. To receive and transcode a Windows Media stream, use the Stream URI input type. SIP Input supports certain Video-Teleconference systems that use Session Initiation Protocol (SIP). To use SIP, must register with a SIP server using an authorized account. Enter the User, Password, Domain (usually optional), port (default 5060) and RTP port (default 4000). If using STUN, enter the server address. Page 10

11 When connects, it can send a custom.bmp image to the calling party (to let the part know they are streaming or recording), or return the video to the party. If you enter a SIP address to call, can initiate the call. SIP supports a call from a SIP video endpoint. For multiparty calls, may not always mix the audio and you should verify this use before depending on it because results may depend on the SIP endpoint and/or bridge vendor. Hardware Assisted Encoding may use special Discover Video capture devices that provide hardware assisted encoding, which can dramatically lower the CPU load on the computer. To configure hardware encoding, you must select the video device during setup or edit, then select the quality from the dropdown list. If your list does not have these, then you do not have hardware assisted encoding. Notice that selection includes values that say H264, as illustrated. Select the appropriate input type that has the H264 option. Native Device Setting Page 11

12 After selection of video input, click on the Native Device Setting. This will expose the capture device properties. Next, select Encoder Property. Select the encoding rate by setting the Record Bitrate. After entering desired value, click the < icon next to the value. Note that the values may not be reflected in the Streamsie interface. You may make adjustments to the other values using the same method. When done, select Apply and OK to continue. Page 12
