This process provides a seamless update of both application and configuration updates. For optimal performance, the Mobile Config Downloader client application should always run on the machine. This will allow for automatic download of all available installs. The Mobile Config Downloader client application provides agency System Administrators, and CTS America Technical Support, the ability to view the Machine s current application version and configuration to assist in troubleshooting. 2 Installing Mobile Config Downloader SmartMobile client users will install the Mobile Config Downloader client from the Setup.exe application provided. Running Mobile Config Downloader After running the Setup.exe application, SmartMobile users will see a new application icon on their desktop for the Mobile Config Downloader. Figure 1- Mobile Config Downloader Client Icon For optimal performance, the Mobile Config Downloader client application should always run on the machine. This will allow for automatic download of all available installs. The user does not have the ability to close this application however, the application can be minimized to the taskbar. If the Mobile Config Downloader is stopped, due to an error or machine reboot, the application will automatically open and resume once the user logs into the machine again. Figure 2- Users attempting to close the Mobile Config Downloader client will receive this message. Page 2 of 6
3 Upon double-clicking the Mobile Config Downloader icon to open, the user will see a new notification. This notification validates the current MobileConfigDownloder.exe application to ensure the user has the latest version installed. This notification requires no user interaction. Any application updates will install automatically. Figure 3- Mobile Config Downloader will automatically check for application updates. Users will need to select the correct server to begin running the Mobile Config Downloader. If the user belongs to a multi-troop agency, or will possibly need to change their configuration server, they will need to uncheck the Remember Server option before clicking OK. Figure 4 - Users will need to select the correct update server from the provided dropdown. After selecting the server options and clicking OK, the user will need to login using their normal SmartCop application username and password. Page 3 of 6
4 Mobile Config Downloader Dashboard The Mobile Config Downloader will automatically open to the Dashboard tab. This display shows the Machine ID, Mandatory and Optional updates. Figure 5- Mobile Config Downloader Dashboard view. Update Types Agencies have the option to classify application and configuration updates as Mandatory or Optional. Agencies also have the ability to include related documentation for the user to immediately view in the installed PDF viewer application. Mandatory Update Mandatory updates will install automatically with no required user interaction. If the Mobile Config Downloader is running, the update will be installed as soon as it is pushed from the server. If the Mobile Config Downloader is not running, the update will automatically install at the next login. Figure 6- Mandatory Update view from Mobile Config Downloader Dashboard Optional Update Optional updates are available to install at the user s convenience. The update will remain in the Mobile Config Downloader grid until it has been installed by the user. Page 4 of 6
5 Once the Download has completed, evidenced by the solid green bar in the Download Percentage column, the user will double-click the Install check and then click Install Updates or Download Configuration button. Figure 7- Optional Update view from Mobile Config Downloader Dashboard Release Documentation If the available release package contains Release Notes for the client user, they will be able to view the notes by clicking View under the Release Notes column. This will automatically open the file in the machine s installed PDF viewer. Figure 8- Viewing Release Notes from Mobile Config Downloader Dashboard Installation Progress When Mobile Config Downloader client application detects a Mandatory update or the user initiates an Optional update, the user will see the installation progress at the bottom of the Dashboard screen. 6 Completing an Installation Once all available updates and configuration changes have been downloaded and installed, the Dashboard will automatically clear until new updates become available. Reporting & Troubleshooting Assistance The Mobile Config Downloader application retains a list of all installations on the MCT History and MF History tabs. This data allows the user, System Administrators and CTS America Technical Support the opportunity to view all installations and any errors incurred during the install. To view this data click the MCT History or MF History tab.
