2 1.Introduction 1.1 General Entes EMG10 Modbus Gateway is used for internet/intranet monitoring via TCP/IP protocol for devices which uses Modbus communication via RS485.

3 WIRING What do we need to use this converter? 1. CAT-5 Network cable Crossover cable for PC-EMG connection, Straight-Thru cable for Modem -EMG connection 2. Modbus line ( ie. 4x0,5 LIYCY) 3. EMG-10 Ethernet Modbus Gateway 4. ENTES seriai device. 5. USB cable which is included to package (USB cable is only for configuration.) Network cable: Network cable is used for monitoring purposes via TCP/IP protocols Modbus Line : Modbus line is a Shielded type twisted-pair cable.( ie. 4x0,5 LIYCY) Most of industrial serial devices use modbus protocol for long-distance communication USB cable: USB cable is used only for configuration. Not for monitoring! This cable is inside the package. At the first time of configuration we have to use this cable for reading the default configuration setting and of course we need this cable for changing these settings.

4 Modbus terminals: (A) (B) (GND) (TR) EMG-10 terminals: (D+) (D-) A must be conencted to (D+) B must be connected to (D-) GND must be connected to GND (GND)

5 1.2 Installing EMG-10 Drivers Because of being EMG10 communication implemented via USB port, it is a must for installing the drivers, which included in CD, before using of device. In order to install the drivers: 1. Connect the device to the USB port. POWER Led is lighted and device will recognized automatically 2. In order to define the driver's path, choose "install automatically from the list or specific location " then click on "next". 3. Define the Drivers' location on "dialog window" then click on "next".

6 4. Click on "Ok" button where the driver folder is located, and then click OK. 5.Computer will save the files.

7 6. Copying progress for required files are completed at this step of installation. 7. You can see the device as browsing: MyComputer/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Universal Serial Bus Controller

8 Ping Command: Open the "start menu" / select "Run" / enter "cmd" / type "ping xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" ; if the system gives a response to this request, such as TTL=64 or TTL=128, it means that Network communication is OK Otherwise; there must be a communication problem on the Network cable In this case:user have to check the network cable,network card,router (modem or switch)settings etc. Possible Reasons for unsuccessful Ping response: 1. Network cable 2. Ethernet card and/or Networking services in the PC software 3. Local area settings ( in case of LAN communication ) IP Class for network, IP addresses for EMG-10 etc.. 4. Router & Switch settings ( in case of WAN communication ) Port forwarding status, DHCP status etc.. Important : Ping command is only used for checking the TCP packages are transmitted and received successfully. If you can get response as TTL=64, then it means Network is OK. This command can not be used for checking the Modbus or USB communications

9 2. EMG10 Configuration 2.1 Basic parameters of device In order to healthy communication, please check if RS485 Modbus parameters and Network parameters are properly defined. EMG is used with below default values when it started first. Network settings IP Address Gateway Address Subnet Mask Port Operation Mode Modbus TCP Serial port settings Baud rate Data bit Stop bit Parity Time out None 5000ms RS485 Serial Communication Parameters These values are used as commonly with the other devices when they are communicated serially. In order to healthy communication; all devices,which are in the same RS485 line,must have the same values such baud rate, data bit, stop bit,parity bit and time-out Baud Rate Defines the communication speed of device. Supported ranges are 1200, 2400, 4800, 9600, 19200, 38400, 57600, bps Data Bit Defines the Data packet size. Supported bit numbers are 5, 6, 7, Stop Bit Stop bits are coming after the Data Bits and Parity Bits are received in serial communication protocols. Supported Stop Bit numbers are 1, 1.5, Parity Bit Used for testing the correction of Data packets. Supported values are Odd, Even and None

10 2.1.2 Network Parameters These settings are related to Internet/Intranet communication of the device IP Address Used for identification of the device in the network. All devices must have a unique IP address in a Local Network. A static IP address have to be entered in here Subnet Mask Used for defining the which IP address belogs to which subnet in the Network. For example: If your company is using B class IP ranges such xxx.xxx then your subnet mask has to be defined as Default Gateway Gateway Addresses are used for accessing to the WAN (Wide Area Network) via Modems and Routers Port Number Communicated applications,which used TCP/IP protocols, use a pre-defined port number in order to communicate eachother. These port numbers are reserved for specific applications. For example: Port 80 is used for HTTP, Port 23 is used for TELNET applications Network Speed Defines the communication speed on the Network. EMG10 supports 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps. Device automatically detect the Network communication speed as default. In that case, LINK Led is lighted. If the communication speed is not detected (Gigabit Ethernet Networks may sometimes cause this failure) please set the communication speed as 10Mbps or 100Mbps Link Defines the communication either as One Directional (Half Duplex) or Two Directional (Full Duplex) Operation Mode EMG10 can be communicated in two different mode for TCP communication. Respected to these modes, Packet structures and communications are explained below Modbus TCP packet Structure

11 MODBUS/TCP protocol is a revised version of MODBUS protocol as make it possible for Modbus communication via internet. Modbus communication protocol, which is used for serial communications as RS485, has the below packet structure. "Device address" used for identify the device, which receive the queries, on the network. This address must be unique for each devices in the RS485/422 line.function code is the one of the codes which defined in Modbus standards. Data is an "information block" which transmitted or received by the device. CRC value is received in order to correcting the completeness of "Data" block. Some features,respected to the network structure of ModbusTCP protocol, are added to the standart Modbus Protocol. Below diagram shows the ModbusTCP structure basicly. As you see, an MBAP header is added to the this structure a Transaction number Modbus protocol is typically a request/response based protocol. It is premerly defined, which answer belongs to the which request, when the transaction is formed. Answer package N, which is transmitted by the Server as request package N, is received by the Client. Let's think about below scenario in order to understanding how the "transaction number" is important during the internet communication.

12 Let's assume that queries "N-1" and "N" are formed one after another and they are transmitted to the gateway via internet in this scenario.although both packets have the same targfet IP address these packets can be forwarded to the destinations with two different directions. (For example, while packet N follows the A-B-C-D direction, Packet N-1 can follows the A-E-D direction ). So, packet N can be forwarded to destination earlier than the packet N-1. In fact ; the answer N-1, which is given by the gateway to the client, is the answer for the transaction N. Similarly, answer N is produced for the transaction N-1. In order to preventing this cofusion in internet application a specific number, which describes the transaction number, is added into the ModbusTCP packet b Protocol Identifier A 16 bit number which describes the concerning of which packet related to the protocol. This number is 0 for the ModbusTCP c Packet Long Defines the long of following data d Device Address: Serial Device's address which is examined. As mentioned above packet structure, Modbus TCP packets have no CRC data. Instead, error control is implemented inside the TCP Tunnel Mode Packet Structure There is no MBAP header in Modbus packet during the tunnel running mode. Query and reply packets are transferred by TCP packets.

13 Tunnel Mode packet Structure Example Configuration for Remote Network Connection via ADSL modem Below diagram shows how we can access to the Serial devices which are connected to a remote network by using EMG-10 Ethernet-Modbus Gateway. Application is implemented by a computer which have IP address. EMG-10,however, placed under a sub-net with IP address on a remote network. Required port forwardings must be completed on the Modem, which is connected, in order to make a remote connection to the Modbus Gateway. Furthermore, Default IP address, which is installed as Default Gateway address, must be entered.

14 ROUTER SETTINGS (For Internet applications) In this application, we have used AirTies RT111 ADSL modem For internet applications, it is a must to assign the EMG IP address and port number as target. AirTies RT111 ADSL2+4 model of ADSL modem is used for this application. Many of Modems are configured by using their WEB interface. In order to change your Modem's settings enter the Modem IP address to the browser ( for this exmp.) Home page will appears. Select the NAT settings. Please kindly add the EMG-10 to the Forwarding Chart by using the Port Forwarding in NAT menu as below.

15 EMG-10 CONFIGURATION Reading/Changing the Configuration by using USB Interface EMG-10 Configuration Tool software,which is in the CD, can be used in order to Reading/Changing the settings on the EMG-10. For this: Connect the EMG-10 to PC by using USB port POWER led is lighted on the EMG-10. Start the EMG-10 Configuration Tool.exe Settings are automatically appears when the program has started

16 5. Then you can find out the settings by clicking on Read button. 6. Click on the Update button in order to changing the parameters after the new settings are entered. New settings will be read and displayed. Note: EMG-10 must be re-energized in order to activating the new settings. Security Settings Defined Password which is used for connecting to the system via internet can be found out or default password can be changed by this option. In order to get learn the default password just click on Security tab.

17 1. Click on the "Security Settings" button in the EMG-10 Configuration Tool. 2. Defined password,for connecting to the system via internet, will appears in default password section. 3. Put a thick mark on the Change Password section in order to changing the password 4. Click on Update button after the new password is entered. New password will appears Reading/Changing the Configuration by using WEB interface. EMG-10 settings can also be changed by WEB interface. HTTP protocol,which is on the Gateway, lets the user to access to settings via port 80 by a remote PC. Rather than the settings which is implemented by USB port, security settings can also be implemented by the WEB interface. 1. Enter the EMG-10 IP adderss on the browser. Enter the Modem's IP address in case of accessing the PC via a remote network (internet).??? In that case, port 80 has to be forwarded to the EMG-10 IP address, on the Modem.

18 2. A valid password is required in order to accessing the system settings. Default password is emg10 when EMG-10 is started first, this is a sensitive password regarding to small/capital letters. 3. System is forwarded you to the settings page if the password is correct. New password will be requested for every wrong password enterance. 4. Click on UPDATE button after the required settings are entered Reset the device after the settings are saved 3. Software Updates If any Update Progress is needed or new features are added to the EMG-10, these renewals can be loaded by USB port and Updated software versions are downloadable via htttp:// New program will be loaded and permanent memory (Flash ROM) will be erased fully during the software update proggress. Because of this reason, device is restarted with Factory Default settings and old settings are erased respectively after the update progress.loaded file is named as EMG10v.x_x_x.rom.v. In here, x_x_x defines the version number. Existing software version number,which is on the device, must be proper according to the version number of Conftool program. Otherwise, upgrading proggress can not be implemented.

19 1. Click on Firmware Update button in EMG10 Configuration Tool program in order to updating the device. 2. Choose a.rom file which you want to install by Open button. 3. Click on Update buton.

20 4. After the programming is completed, please restart & reenergize the device.!!! Important Note: High Com port value may cause the communication failure. For exmp. If the system has detected the connected usb port as 13 (RS485<->USB Bridge Point (COM13) ), then system may face some unexpected failures which is hard to understand. It might be replaced with 5, 6 etc... In practical applications; high comport value, which is greater than 7, cause to communication failures. And this failure is impossible to detect by the users. ( This notify is just for EMG-10 Cunfiguration by USB cable) Conclusion: After all these configurations has completed, EMG-10 would be ready for remote monitoring. Current IP address(xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx) and port number(502) will be enough for monitoring the ENTES serial devices by MPR-SW software. (*) We can reach Define Ports menu which seems above from MPR-SW s Configuration menu
